High Octane negotiating tactics. At least they are getting the power down!

How do you know what the course will look like? I haven't been able to find the new track map anywhere.

The race will stay at the airport but move to a different part of it - the runway that was closed in August. The issue behind the cancellation was that who should cover the cost of repaving the runway etc.

Best part of this news is that PT will have a better chance of getting funding for more races.

So it's ok for someone else's tax dollars to fund your sports pleasure, but not for yours to do the same?

The fact a post came off his keyboard that not only was not negative, it was downright positive should be taken one of 2 ways:

1. Either somebody else posted in his name, or
2. His Turkey was laced with LSD.

Either way, it is a first here on this forum and the date should be marked for history!

And by the way, glad to see the race back on. Knowing the passion Canadians have for racing it really never sunk in for me that the race wouldn't go on somehow.

A percentage of it is.

Why? Don't follow your logic.

Why? Don't follow your logic.

Because every street circuit has some taxpayer dollars attached to it, if not directly then indirectly with street rerouting, additional police security, etc. So why would you support your Florida tax dollars being spent in this way?

A percentage of it is.Based on the current census, the total US investment in GM worked out to about $160 for every man, women, and child (and other) in the US. The loans have all been paid back and now the US Government (and you and me) owns 60% of GM at a cost of about 40 Billion.

The top 5% of taxpayers pay 60% of the taxes collected. So 95% of taxpayers account for 40% of taxes, or the equivalent of 40% of the investment in GM, or about 16 Billion.

Since there were over 90 million taxable returns, that means that somewhere around 85 million taxpayers own 16 Billion in GM stock, or about $190 for each average taxpayer, or about 6 shares of stock.

Of course if you are in that top 5%, it works out to about $4,800 per person, which is about what one of those people might spend on a vacation, say to Edmonton in August.

I guess if you worked for GM, or a GM dealer, or anywhere in the auto industry that works with GM vehicles, (which are almost all of the support industries) the idea of keeping GM alive might have a different value. If such a small percentage of my tax money went into supporting that many jobs, I can live with it.

Edmonton has/had some very wealthy families involved in racing.
We used to joke about one father/son (son ran FB/Atlantic). It was said his dad owned some real estate in Edmonton. It was called downtown. :D

I don't.

But if one of my businesses dictates my presence then I will attend.

First off the loans have nowhere near been paid back.

2nd US Taxpayers do not "own" not one single share of GM stock. By owning that means you possess it along with the right to sell or dispose of it. That right is not available to the US taxpayers.

I don't follow the logic of anybody in this conversation. It's all deficit funded with printed money, period.

Glad to see it's back on the schedule. I hope the new configuration makes for better racing. I always found it weird that the races in Toronto were better than Edmonton.

This seems to be premature. There is no official news from IndyCar.com and it is not being reported by any other source except the Sun. IndyCar.com has not updated its schedule page to include Edmonton and neither Speed or VS. has any news on the restoration. What gives ? The Sun premature ???

I will believe this when it is back on the sched. This on again off again horse bleep makes the people of Edmonton look like a bunch of morons.

When Indycar agrees to put it back on the sched, it should be nailed down nice and solid for a 3 or 4 year contract and that should be the end of this.

As for the track, I too found it interesting the racing wasn't as good as it should have been, but when you see Helio being nailed for "blocking", you realize the airport circuit only works when you let the guys race.....
