Hmmmmm a bit crazy results i must say on ss1......

JML another mistake.....hmmm its good it happened early so he could still fight for small points by the end.....

The pace of the mini was somewhat expected....its good to see that the car was improved from their first testing videos.

Mikkelsen is very fast as well and he hasn't much knowledge of the roads. The top Italian drivers are simply better than the SWRC drivers, except maybe Hänninen and Tänak.

No way! It is purely due to the fact that Michelin´s new tyre is much stonger and slower than the previous one used in the beginning of the season. And difference is huge, because Italian drivers can use other tyres...

11 drivers out of the 18 during the four stages! It tells everything about the Fiesta R2 (yes, a couple of accidents..). Before the season there was a speculation in Finland that WRC-Academy will not be the right place, because M-Sport is not able to handle the situation and luckily there is no Finnish drivers at all. It seems to be the right decision!

The winner will get of course 500 000 Euros (Who will appreciate this kind of lottery), but with that amount you are able to compete 3-4 events behind the wheel of the Fiesta RS WRC and you never know how this kind of customer car will work. Very, very disappointed to Malcolm Wilson. Sadly it is only money which is important for him (for example Warmbold´s story and this WRC-Academy...)

Ok, Sardinian roads are quite rough but I doubt about the reliability of those Fiesta...

At least the Argentinian is leading the class :D (don't know for how long before having issues too!)

Prokop is very impressive here! Anybody got a theory why?

Hm, a very good question. I personally am not surprised by Martin´s speed. I always believed he was capable to speed up. But don´t ask me why :)

Maybe because:
1) Martin said that Sardinia was one of his favorite rallys and he knows it here very well.
2) Do not forget that he got 25 points from Mexico at hand, so he can afford to risk a little bit more than usually (let´s wait for his today ´s press release, hopefully we will know more about his today´s tactics).
3) This season Martin prefers quality to quantity - better technical preparation, more testing, ..... (as he said, last season a lack of testing had been one of his biggest disadvantages).
4) Martin has (almost) always been capable of podium on every SWRC/PWRC event, but as an experienced driver he always prefers the overall classification to risking too much in a fight for victory in a particular rally.

About JM's crash, Anttila read a wrong pacenote (possibly from next line or something like that). He read "left one(, barriers in the end)" which is a flat corner in JM's system (1-9).

JM reacts by braking and saying "No, it's not" to which Miikka answers "Oh.. No, f*ck! .... My mistake." Apparently there was a line mixup or kinda similiar situation what Elena did in 2007 Japan just reading wrong.

Though, I have to give credit to JM for being so discreet. We all make mistakes. Codrivers just do them very rarely. He did the right thing by not bashing Miikka. Just a short fact-based information statement. Remember Loeb in Japan 2007?

I think its a mistake by Ogier to drop time - I think Loeb will win even running first on the road tomorrow.

Great first day for the Mini - they will be super-competitive in the future for sure.
