View Full Version : HRT getting serious?

Autosport are reporting that HRT are buying the Williams gearbox to pair with the Cossie for 2011.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/87875

That's the first piece of positive news to come out of HRT for a long time. Hopefully this shows they can survive into next season and are aiming higher than the back row.

Definitely the best news from HRT so far.

But with this and the Lotus and Renault's arrangement, where does this leave Virgin?
A virgin? :p

^^^

The thought did cross my mind. A Red Bull back end in the Lotus, and now a Williams engineered HRT - are Virgin going to stick with that blasted x thing as that would surely consign them to another disappointing year.

How is Bernie even remotely helpful to F1 any more? There is supposed to be a budget cap, and there's been far too many teams pull out due to the high costs for limited sponsor exposure.

Anyway, it's a step in the right direction for Hispania, but I think that having no chassis other than their current one for next year will be a bigger concern. After making quite a lot of progress early on, and even catching Virgin at one point, they've moved backwards and are struggling with 107% again.

I am glad that there are 24 cars though, though it's a shame that there's no Toyota, I do enjoy following the new teams.

Ahhh bless Bernie. I used to get angry with his childish rants, but now we are on "dotty old man bilge" number 713,436 I can let it wash over me.

Great news, they're going to be much stronger next year if they are around.

They've supposedly bought what's left of Toyota too, so they're definitely trying...

Good luck to them. Hopefully they will close the gap to the front runners to within 50% of where they currently sit.

Good move for Hispania to get some better gearboxes from Williams (maybe Virgin should contact Williams as well). I'm still wondering what Hispania will do for a car next season.

That's sort of how I take it too. Whenever the news is slow, they roll out Bernie and he'll prattle about something, whether it makes any sense or not. But some people do hang onto his every word. Like when he recently mentioned that an American driver LIKE Danica Patrick would make a good advertisement for the upcoming U.S. Grand Prix in Austin. More than a few of her nonsensical fans took that to mean that Ecclestone had offered her a contract to drive in F1 in 2013 and she was pondering the contract offer.

But in this case, if the performance of the new teams is bothering Bernard so much, perhaps he should put some thought into why ALL of the new teams are struggling versus the more established teams. As others have suggested, maybe someone should utter the words "lack of testing" into Bernie's wrinkled old ear.

I agree. This ban on testing in the worlds supposed top motorsports formula is a joke

Complaining about lack of testing wouldn't bother Bernie so much, however if someone complained about a lack of money, now that is something that would certainly get his hear beat rate high!

maybe they should give new teams more time to get ready for their entrance year, i think they should give them at least 8 or 9 months i reckon to set up factories, staff and drivers an sponsors

Lotus did it in 2/3rds that time and are the best of the newbies, but I do agree in general that the whole selection proccess was nonsense and protracted which has done nothing to help the new teams get their feet on the ladder.

Sadly I think it means that no additional (serious) entries will attempt Formula One for several years having seen how much of a beating the three new teams have taken this season.

Good for HRT, but only as long as they are actually designing and building next year's car (don't know anything about that), because otherwise there wouldn't be much to do with the gearbox. :p :

Good news.

Its going to be tough for Hispania to get a car built for next year.

But it is showing the world, that they are serious about being in F1 next.

Just Virgin that need to secure their future.

Hispania and Toyota negotiations ongoing

"Such an assumption is premature," Vasselon told Auto123 in regards to whether the possible deal between the two had ended after Hispania reached a gearbox supply deal with the Grove based team.

Well, the article doesn't really anything about Yamamoto being sick this time, does it? Anyway, getting rid of Yamamoto is as good a step as any towards getting serious.

Klien is a much much better driver than Yamamoto. On current form and experience he's also a lot better than Senna and Chandhok. So Sakon getting more sniffles isn't really the worst thing. I just hope that the team has enough money to keep going beyond the next two races.

Austrian Klien had already replaced the Japanese driver at the Singapore Grand Prix, where the team said Yamamoto was feeling unwell. No, the article didn't state that Yamamoto was ill, but I bet that's what HRT will say if they're asked by the press.

Better gearbox for next season.
Better driver for this race.
And better news ahead for Hispania in the form of a new backer? http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/87934

it shows that senna isnt that good when in FP1 he was beaten by klien by 0.5s ahead of senna and in FP2 he was only very marginaly slower. if HRT really want 10th, 1. they need varying conditions, 2. a start similar to Aus 2002, 3. Klien and Chandhok in their cars as Chandhok is ahead of Yamamoto and Senna from his 14th in Aus.

But reports say that De La Rosa is working close to HRT, whether it is just for tyre info or racing contract because of knowledge of tyres for next years car (if there is one) and also Klien would be good for their second driver imo.
De La Rosa soon to announce deal (link below)

I hear from Finnish sources that Valtteri Bottas might test for Hispania after the season. Bottas is managed by Mika Häkkinen but Valtteri doesn't have cash so it's very unlikely he is going to race for the team unless Mika does what Keke Rosberg did to him, invest his own money to get a drive for his driver.

It's possible that he comes packaged with the Williams transmission, isn't it?

now with the financial backing of former Telefonica President Juan Villalonga, have inked a deal with Cologne based Toyota.

The details of the arrangement are not known, but it is expected to involve the use of the design of the TF110 car, which was penned last year but never raced because Toyota's Japanese parent pulled out of Formula One.
