Hi All,

there is a jump in Sweden that was given the name of McRae's Jump as he had a moment there a few years ago and was able to keep it from crashing.

Does anyone have a youtube link of McRae's incident?

Cheers

I don't have the actual video, but it's called the Colin's crest and the wrc review sometimes show mikko jump over it.

It have gone a little bit out of proportion the last few years I think, if you compare Colins Crest to many of the jumps in Finland it is not that special. The tricky part however is the landing, which is directly before a slight right into left 3 (or something like that Colin-notes). I saw Mäkinen have a near of experience in that righthander in 2000, when chasing Bosse. This year there was someone else, unknown name, who almost stayed there aswell. I stood ten metres before the actual jump though so i missed it.

Indeed. Some seem to think that sport needs extra flash and such marketing tricks are floated out.

Hi.

I have grown up just a couple of kilometers from Colin's Crest, and been standing there many times at the rally (and been driving myself hundreds of times) and I have never heard of or seen Colin McRae do a mistake or fly extremely far there. I have seen a video footage of a Subaru coming too far to the right over the crest hitting the snow bank quite heavily but continuing without stopping, I think this happened between -96 and -98, and it is possibly McRae. The longest jumps I have seen there are Duval in -02 and a Corolla (possibly Jozef Beres??) in -03, and it is almost always a driver further back that flies the longest (since it is a long straight before the crest, everybody can fly very long if they choose not to brake).

I have no good explanation why it is called Colin's Crest, my theory is hat when people where talking about the crest, they (we) always THOUGHT that the wild scot would fly longest, why they (we) started calling it Colin's lyft. The myths told by the organizers these days (for instance that Colin flew 60 meters and landed in the ditch hitting a postbox) is definitely false, but perhaps he did fly very long some year, I havent seen it every time. However, he has smashed a postbox on the Vargåsen stage once, but that happened a couple of kilometers after the crest (in the village Mallbacken, where he hit mrs Elsie's postbox in -99. Richard Burns hit her new one in -00, why she bought a postbox she can turn out of harms way, but then they altered the stage and doesn't pass anymore.)

If I am wrong and he has done something spectacularly there, I would also very much like too see a video of this.

Now this is great Rally trivia!! :D

BTW I am so sick of the "Been-there done-that" types who always has to go "Pllllease!! Colins Crest is sooo last year! go here and here and here instead"..

If you visit Sweden, you must see Colins Crest at least once, and yes Mikko did deliver the entertainment last year!
:D

I have never been at Colin's Crest and I'm pretty sure it would dissapoint me as much as the Yellow House jump at Ouninpohja did in 2005. Simply too many people for my taste.

Hi.

The Subaru was Piero Liatti in 1998. Can't help you with Colin though!
