yes, and he still drives a S1600 car... For me it would be very boring for such a long time without real fight. But he's still worth watching, very spectacular and fast!

This is not rally, but rallycross. I was yesterday at 4th round of Finnish rallycross championship and witnessed the worst crash I've seen.

On 3rd round of qualifications in SRC class (rear wheel drive, no limits in engines, up to 300-400 hp) after the start there where car contact and one of the cars, a Volvo S40, crashed heavily - initial hit was roof first at an armco that bent the roof in from head to head, them car flew up some 4-5 metres up rolling vertically, doors flew high up (on this video (http://www.yle.fi/media/asxgene.php?file=tvurheilu/170710_rallicross_ulosajo.wmv) you see them go, but you don't see them land yet) and then landing with another roll on its roof. It took 40 minutes to get the driver out of the car. I don't know how seriously he was hurt, but it's been told he's status is stable. On two previous qualifications he drove so well that he would've been in A-final.

Sportwise it was a great event, lots of one-on-one battles. There were also a dramatic end to division 1 A-final. Sami Pakkala in Honda Civic, who was clearly fastest of the lot, won the final but he forgot to take the joker lap - for which he would've had clearly time for. Thus Toomas Heikkinen won as were the case in three previous rounds as well, so he won the championship already with two rounds left. Per Eklund made a guest visit as well, ending up third.

If miracle happens and Märtin enters Finnish rally with this "vintage" Focus, i wonder how far off the pace would he be? He was very fun to watch this weekend, almost like in good old times. Even when he had technical problems, he managed to win all stages. Other 2 WRC cars werent much competition to him...

i was 2008 at veszprem rally. it was one of the best rallyes i ever had seen. fantastic fight between spitzmüller (lancer wrc), benik ( focus wrc) and turan (307 wrc). i see the maps of the special stages they drive this year and i thing thats very bad. they drive 5 times the stage with the little autocross stage! 2007 there are fantastic stages. the big jutaspuszta stage on saturday und the smal on sunday

Great news. 2011 edition of Jänner Rally will take place at 6-8th January (2 weeks before Monte Carlo). After one year a snow-tarmac rally returns into Austrian championship and many foreign crews are expected again :)

The "Schneebergland Rallye", round five of the Austrian championship 2010, was held this weekend.

The all new gravel and tarmac rallye was won by Raimund Baumschlager in his Skoda Fabia S2000 who claimed his fifth win in the fifth race this year.

But it was a very close finish as Manfred Stohl was second in his Mitsubishi Lancer CNG with just 0.2 seconds after Baumschlager.

Baumschlager now already won the Austrian Championship title 2010 with two more rounds to go. Its his eight straight title in Austria.

S2000's rule in Finland. Kakko and Miettinen set the pace on Saturday leaving just one stage to Lindroos. It says it all about the gap between S2000 and group N cars. Finnish fellows will agree that Kakko and Miettinen are potentially slower than Lindroos and Salo. Miettinen lost some time on ss6 (reason??) and finished therefore only third.

Tänak still in the lead at Finnish Finnsco rally. After SS7 he's 12,3s ahead of Salo (Evo X) and 23,0s ahead of Miettinen (Fabia S2000). Miettinen has a hold of second place in the championship, though there's still a lot of kilometres ahead. Miettinen, Joonas Lindroos (Impreza WRX) and Kosti Katajamäki (Evo X) started the event all in level at the standings, so this rally decides the second place (Salo already the champion). Lindroos is now 15,7s down on Miettinen and Katajamäki 1,3s down on Lindroos. Four more stages to run today and five stages tomorrow.

Raimund Baumschlager won also the sixt round of the Austrian championship this year - the ARBÖ Rallye Steiermark - in his Skoda Fabia S2000. It was a close fight with Beppo Harrach (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX) all day.

Too bad luck for Lindroos then, though 3rd in the series with one event victory was good for first season in 4wd. Also surprised to hear about Kosti's retirement, though it is understandable to a degree. He has been quite unlucky all season. It still is one less driver in a series that's already struggling for competition.

Esapekka Lappi was disqualified for making repairs to the car at time control which is prohibited. Thus Marko Mänty won the class. Kalle Pinomäki who did won all previous events retired earlier.

That's quite unclear, though fair to a degree if he'd been off the road for a long time (I don't know how long). Other drivers were given a time based on their avarage performance on SS1-5. Hmm... And if I understood right, Tänak didn't finish the last stage of Saturday. Tänak choosed not to continue on Sunday stages due to lots of time penalties. Car was okey.

Missed the story earlier this year but why was Vallejo dismissed from the Ford team? I though he would have been a good bet for the championship at the start of the season...

His pace was not very good and he had some "problems" with the owner of the car and the team (Nupel).

Later on this year he drove a 207 S2000 in Rally de Ourense and finished second... just behind Pons and Nupel´s Fiesta! He also won a local rally in a Octavia WRC.

He's expected to drive a Porsche 911 again next season.

The driver and co-driver had switched seats for that stage. But luckily no life-threatning injuries, only some rather small leg and back injuries.

GrN champion in 2010 is Egon Kaur. He had a lot of problems with the car during the rally. Winner in overall rankings is Margus Remmak.
2WD FWD winner was Siim Plangi (you can see him in Scotland), but Champion is Martin Kangur (he is replacing Kruuda in Spain).

It was very difficult rally with many new stages. Second day started with very thick fog causing a lot of problems for those who didn't use tripmeters.

Some more nice stories about Saaremaa rally:

Egon Kaur was was really slow on the second day. The reason was rather simple. He broke the gearbox on the first stage of the day and managed to limp next 2 stages and to the service. He didnt had spareone but he managed to lend new gearbox from Kristo Kraag´s (one of the best co-drivers in Estonia) road car (normal gearbox). The mechanics managed to change the box in 20 minutes and his speed was enough to secure GrN Title.

Margus Remmak who secured overall title had a bit similar problems. The fifth gear jumped out all the time and he did the whole second day so that he was holding steering wheel with one and and gearstick with the other hand (to keep it in gear). He said that it was uite scary do drive 200km/h and hold the steeringwheel only with one hand :-P

PG Andersson won the rally in a MB Evo IX GrpN and he was in a class on his own.

The coolest car of all in the rally was definitely Stig Blomqvist's brand new Audi Quattro and i really wish that modern rally cars would have the Quattro's sound.
Stig Participated only as a safety car and only on stages 1/5.

Yes vino , Istra is a historical Croatian region which has been under foreing influence through most of its history . It has been added to Croatia ( then Yugoslavia ) after the WW2 . It was under great Italian influence ( especially between WW1 - WW2 , when fascists had a strong italianisation in there ) , and today is a part of it's culture . It's also definately the most motorsport-friendly part of Croatia . Also there is a Slovenian part of Istra ( cities Izola and Koper )

Bernardo is now champion and will skip the last round (Rally Casinos do Algarve) in order to be present at his last nominated round of the SWRC in Wales. Both take place in the same weekend.

Well at the moment he doesn't have a car because "his" Fiesta is run by a company called Katap-Racing and they have started a large renting business around it. He's selling his old Evo X and I guess he'll stick to rallying but in the business side because he and Katap-Racing have many connections (same sponsors etc.)... Possibly he'll drive some international rallies too.


Does anyone know what's going on with Tommi Mäkinen Racing? Because I just realized that one of TMR's key figures (ex-technical and managing director), Esko Reiners has started to run his own business offering a wide variety of rally services...

Yağız Avcı won Rally of Green Bursa and clinched 2nd title in Turkish Rally Championship. Avcı won the event at a Castrol Ford Türkiye run Fiesta S2000 ahead of the experienced multiple national champion Ercan Kazaz - Evo X, and 2006 JWRC contender Fatih Kara - Evo IX. Another multiple national champion Serkan Yazıcı retired after a problem in a water splash which caused more retirements and turned into a nightmare for the drivers. Also, Parkur Racing announced their second consecutive title among the teams.
Yağız Avcı is 'hoped' to drive abroad next season.
