Please let me know how you feel about the distance of thsi rally. Should future rallies be shorter? Longer?
I shamelessly used Bruce Ds' thread format for my own. You know what they say about imitation and flattery... (thanks Bruce  :D )

Hehe, glad to see this is up and running Tannat. I don't understand people's need for a shakedown stage but anyway. This rally looks really tough and no Superrally makes it a killer.

I like this length of event for Monte Carlo as its a classic, but maybe future ones should be a bit shorter to encourage more people to do it.
I look forward to it after I finish the Gauteng Rally tonight.

My times are in but I feel I was slow, I started quick but made a few mistakes so took it steady to make sure I finished. The wet stages were hell, everytime I got some confidence and sped up I`d make a mistake and loose time so I just had to pace myself.
As slow as I might have been I reckon I beat Matt Wilson though ;)

I'll probably be able to do some rounds at the start of next year or even at the end of this, it's just that I've got a lot on my plate right now, plus, I'm relatively new to RBR, so I'm practicing, and getting used to the car handling and stages.
I wish you luck tannat in running this championship

Finally managed to do some runs with the Mitsubishi. I haven't driven it , I can't even remember when was the last time I drove it. It really wasn't one of the favourite cars when RBR came out.
Compared to newer cars in RBR, the rear of the car moves alot more in the corners and slides very easily, even in the dry. Should be an interesting rally...
My times on the shakedown were:
2:40,80
2:40,62

I have finished my rally and it was an eventful one. Wierdly enough majority of the incidents happened when the tarmac was dry. I guess I didn't push hard enough on wet asphalt.
SS1 and SS2 went without problems and set reasonable time on those.
SS3 started well but I had a trouble with one of the hairpins and got stuck. Took some time to get going again.
On SS4 I had a very scary experience. I think it was the first sector where there was a highpeed blind corner left. I took it too fast and ended with my right side wheels on the grass and the hairpin coming up. I tried to brake and keep the car stable. I somehow managed that but arrived at the hairpin backwards and stalled the engine. It took some time to restart the engine.
At downhill section I also managed to stall the engine in a hairpin.
On Joux Plane I did 360 in a downhill section, I think it's about 6k in. I just lost traction at the rear and spun. I think I didn't lose too much time there.
The rest of the rally was mostly incident free, just few sloppy hairpins. Unfortunately I finally got hang of taking the hairpins with the Mitsubishi near the end of the SS7, when the rally was pretty much over. Nevertheless it might come handy in the future rallies.

About the rally length. Actually I would like even longer rallies (say 80 to 100km in length) but I guess most people prefer shorter rallies.
tannat
31st October 2010, 13:08
Thanks for the pix and video, NKnow
Regarding length-RBR is a bit short on tarmac stages, although I certainly could have added one more tarmac and one more snow stage to break the 80km mark...
Gravel rallies will be a bit easier for a longer rally, and the next event will probably be close to, if not beyond 80 km...

I made a damper change from defaults to something more stiff and I feel much more confident with the Citroen...
It has mild understeer, easily provoked to oversteer with a slight tap of the handbrake.
The most challenging parts to drive are the very, very fast left to right or right to left transitions. I should be able to take these flat, but if I give the car too much steering input it spins...
Have to brake slightly before such turns to keep the car stable. Frustrating, but it keeps me in one piece and on the road.

31st October 2010, 17:48
i cant wait for the first gravel rally of the season since tarmac is my worst surface to drive on i know i'll probally be last since i had absolutely no feeling with the hyundai going through corner it felt very squirmy and prone to spinning out on hairpins added to that the gears seem slow to change through back to reverse meant loads of lost time on some stages

I'm using Fraps to get images during the gameplay.

That's a yes and no. Sometimes I only feather the throttle if the I know what is coming up (like on gravel or very slight high speed corner) or in some cases when I'm trying to be double sure that I can manage that corner. But mostly I'm also slightly using brakes to make sure that I'm not exceeding the grip level when entering a high speed corner. That is the habit I have from my previous wheel and I'm trying to quit it but it is going to take me some time till I finally get rid of it.

I have sent the times, including split times. I felt it was a good run with a PB on Joux Plane and Autiovaara although I have only completed Autiovaara twice so a PB isnt a great achievement! I'll do some summary tables asap, but NeverKnow and PS29 took all the stage wins, and PS29s otustanding time essentially sealed the fate on the rally.
For certain it was a tough route. I'm thinking Sweden (Finland) will be kinder to all.
I really wanted to do a nice commentary for the stage by stage results, but fear everyone has waited long enough. Next time..
Thanks to all of you for participating. Next round is Sweden (Finland stages) with the thread beginning November 16.

Yep - thanks tannat for hosting. Look forward to round 2 in Sweden. Sorry for all the delays.
Very happy with the win - pace not great on dry tarmac, but somehow my practise on slippery tarmac has helped a lot. Literally cannot believe the time difference on SS6, but I re-did the stage to check the validity of my time and got a time within one second of it so I must have just got that stage down to a tee!
Well done for everyone taking part - hopefully at least 5 will enter every round. I certainly will be an ever-present, and hopefully wont be as late next time in sending in my times!
