Well I've just booked flights to go to Finland for me and my brother, possibly the earliest I've ever done that for going to a rally  Flying direct from Edinburgh and will have a few extra days in Helsinki after the event which I usually enjoy

Who else is going? :bounce:

Nice! I'm going too. Me and my brother will go there, using the once a year free trip to Finland we get due to my dad working in Helsinki. Will most probably take the car to Stockholm then the Ferry to Helsinki, so that we have a car (too young to rent) Then if my dad feels up to it we will pick him up too, otherwise it's just me, my brother and a tent :p

Going to be great fun!

Too bad my sister moved out frm Jyskälä year ago and i'm too lazy to find accommodations myself. :D

There is still one free bed in our place but then again it's an awful long way to come with a bikecycle from Hervanta to Himos...and getting to stages on time would require for you to start really early in the morning...

I'm concidering a getting a car now that i actually can rationalize to myself it being useful. :)
Altough it wouldn't be that long a strech to one of the stages via bike either. :)

Come on janeppi and bring some extra Minttu with you as well :D

I will be hiring a car and only two of us in it so far, if you don't mind sharing costs and keeping an eye out for speed cameras ;) you're more than welcome :)

I'm saving like a demon to hopefully get back again. Had an amazing time last year! Plus i'm starting to get rally withdrawl.

Shall hopefully be there with a fellow aussie, so i guess you can just look for the two girls with australian flags stalking chris atkinson!

I`ve just booked 14 days at Koskenpää in a lakeside cabin. Also booked on to Kapelskär - Naantali ferry. First time to Finland, so I`m a bit apprehensive, but overall I feel "maximum happy!" :D It`d be good to meet some of you forumers there.

Hi all,
Anyone going with Rally Travel to Finland?

Daniel
7th June 2007, 11:44
Just booked my time off.

Just need to book my flight and car hire which I'll be doing tonight.

Will probably be leaving tuesday afternoon. Arriving in Helsinki at nearly 11 at night on Tuesday and then flying back to Manchester on Sunday 12th :cheese:

Will be spending all that time in Finland unless a certain someone wants to go to Sweden :yuck:

Moomins and Makkara. That's what this is all about :)

Yes I can but I'll tell you ( and others willing to join ) that we traditionally go to Vanha Mylly after the last stages on saturday, usually around 21 pm. We also usually have a table resevation ( thanks to DonJippo ) but there has been vacancy every time. So, after 20 to 21 pm there will be forumers in the Vanha Mylly. Join in.

It's possible we'll go to Finland too, my dad found a cheap flight ticket add and he wants to go back. :D We haven't been there since 2000 and this will be a new experience because we won't have a private bus driver now, and we won't have thos 25 drunk singing/sleeping/screaming Solberg fans either. :D

Does anybody have tips about a decent place to stay without spending all my money? And where to rent a car cheaply? (My dad's Dutch, that's why it can't cost us too much. :p )

Try send e-mail and ask about vacancy in Alkio-opisto, Korpilahti. Rooms cost about 60 euros and up including breakfast. The location for the rrally is pretty much optimal. Much better than for those bunch of losers staying at Himos ;)

I was a bit stupid and crashed my hangglider. Snapped off my upper radial head (the end of the forearm bone which joins into the elbow) It's healing niceley though, a few metal plates and lots of pins later.. but it has caused me to have a month off work with all the surgery and such.. So my rally savings took a major dive.

10th July 2007, 13:03
Well you've got the superspecial and shakedown for one.. and the service park, which i always try to get to at least once during the day (but i do like going there at each service) Then there was that whole day last year that was north of jyvaskyla when we had to get up at stupid-o-clock to get to the stages.

Of course, this could all have changed this year..

Superspecial is not worth seeing :p Shakedown is. Never really understood why people like to go to service all the time? OK if you want autographs but once you've got one autograph from each driver you don't need to bother them next year. Plus I've driven 150km to go to a stage once :)

Christina
10th July 2007, 15:35
Maybe i like to go to the service park for the atmosphere of it all. Plus you get those tame drivers/co-drivers/team guys who remember you and come chat to you about all sorts of things (like what you fell over this time) when they're not busy doing rally type stuff. But maybe that's just me.. (mainly the falling over part. i got so much stick from the ford guys in aus last year when i came back from the stage with that massive graze on my knee)

Tell you what, go see Willy, the M-sport drivers co-ordinator. i'm sure he'll be able to tell you lots of reasons why staying in Jyvaskyla is better.

Oh, and the distance to stages? i'm sure the boddington rally village was more like 200km.. I got almost 2000km on my car last rally aus. Very proud of that effort. Although my mechanic did ask what on earth i had been doing with my car. Apparently mazda 323's are not really supposed to go off road..

Oh dang! you've got me all figured out! there goes my cover!

Daniel, if you're out the night before, you tend only to be hungover in the morning, not still drunk. unless it was a really good night! And besides, i found the drunken santa's at the yellow house jump mighty entertaining! especially when they started doing leap frog on the stage.

The atmosphere on the stages is different. People sometimes get clean for the service park. Sometimes rally without mud is good too..

Has the forum group already decided the stages/places to meet?

As an info to those who goes to Helsinki,Rolling Stones are there at the 1st of August but I think it will not cause the traffic like the athletic world champs at 2005 and Rolling Stones are there at the 1st so many has already gone to Jkylä.

Same place where Hannu Mikkola rolled his Volvo Amazon about 197?.

Martin Stenshorne made VERY long jump about 2004 and rolled his Mitsubishi Lancer.

So it is again time for Neste Rally. I have been to the event so many times, but still I am always coming back. Although lately I have noticed that the feeling I used to associate with the rally is not the same anymore. Don't really know if it is because of the event changing or me getting older and more interested in other stuff than rally...go figure.

NORF is a great event, one of the best WRC events (if not the best) in my opinion, although I might slightly prefer Catalunya nowadays. Ireland is of course gonna be great too, looking forward to that.

This year there are gonna be lot of new and "new" stages, so I expect lot's of suprising spots to spectate in...I know I am gonna be in few of them :)

I hope everybody will have great time in NORF07 - see you at the stages!

sorry for not replying, on holiday in the US at the moment :p Yeah, that's the flight I'll be taking if my flight from Karlstad goes smoothly (in 2005 on my way to NORF the right engine wouldn't start on the plane and we were delayed several hours...) Look for to guys, I'm 18 and my brother 16, we'll be wearing rally hats and probably be very hard to miss. Say hello if you like :p
