Also note the "standalone" US series and the Japanese SuperGT and DTM technical specs being the same...could be very interesting combined series/overlap of cars.

Good news for the DTM, it has been just Audi and Mercedes for way too long. I wonder where this will leave BMWs WTCC program, surely there is no need for two separate touring car programs?

excellent news- was a huge fan of the old DTM but lost interest in recent years. With a third manufacturer (and possibly Opel joining in) it might be worth watching again

that'll probably happen.

with seperate series possible in the USA and maybe even Asia, plus SuperGT using DTM regs....well, I see international domination on the touring car front from DTM, the brand of DTM will end up far superior than that of the WTCC if this all goes through.

lets hope the new regs get rid of all those blasted flappy parts then.

I'd have thought they'd pull the plug on the WTCC - it's a dead-duck series, with stupid rules and cars which aren't the best Touring cars around.
Going to the DTM makes perfect sense, up against their true competitors.

Can't see it happening (getting rid of flappy bits). SuperGTs are also glorified prototypes.

Yup, spot on.

DTM will undermine the WTCC's very existance within a few years, I have a strong feeling of that.

I agree, so long as DTM provides exciting racing with a variety of manufacturers

very interesting news indeed.

I wonder if this means we will see Priaulx and Farfus in DTM come 2012

BMW have made it no secret that their not exactly happy in WTCC.

yes, It's vital the DTM get the racing sorted with the new rules IMO. If they do, it has a bright future.

Here's a related link about the US based DTM series.

http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/grand-am-dtm-confirm-us-based-series/

It's good there is now the US series. A racing series need global adoption in order help amortize car costs for manufacturers looking to build cars and to provide a good used racing car market for older vehicles.

It would be interesting if any other automakers step up besides BMW.

I thought the SuperGT and DTM rule discussions had collapsed? They couldn't agree?

SuperGT have yet to finalise their rules for 2015 or whenever
