I plan to enter in my old trusty Xsara WRC :) , I've been missing out competition because I haven't had the time I wanted to but I want to fight for the championship again so If everything goes according to plan I should enter all rounds.

Not wasting anymore time on it-want to get on with recce for the rally proper.

Sector 1.....Sector 2......Final

Run 1)1:01.76...1:57.56....3:10.05 error on hairpin (the only dry one)
Run 2)1:00.22...1:56.68...3:05.55 rough...
Run 3)0:59.24...1:54.36...3:02.45 not bad. Sub 3min definitely possible

I'm driving the Peugeot 206. Times were set with snows, and aside from steering angle, swaybar and gearing changes settings were default.

I'm not sure what's going on here. Can someone please download the Focus from the rallyesim site and run it without using RSRBR because there might be a problem? Either that or I have somehow become incredibly quick without warning, or the SD times so far aren't as fast as you can go.

Mine: 54.57 - 1:40.96 - 2:38.33

I'll get a replay up if anyone wants a look at how this is happening (may take a while as I have Uni stuff going on at the moment).

A naive question-But how can you run the Monte mod without RSRBR?

Bruce D
5th October 2010, 06:48
You can download the monte mod from the rallyesim site as a seperate download which installs and uninstalls by itself.

@ps29, stupid question but you are running the monte mod from rallyesim hey? This is the problem with rallyesim, they mess around with the physics and don't cover it properly.

@LCD, what are you entering?

NeverKnow
5th October 2010, 09:55
I have tried out the Monte Carlo mod from rallyesim.fr and came to conclusion that it is only cosmetic mod, no physics changes compared to original stages. Three stages (Cote d'Abroz I & II, Joux Plane) I tried I was using dry asphalt tires and I could get very high level grip even on icy patches. I tried the same stages with RSRBR's monte mod and spun off on the first corner with ice/snow.

Just sent my enrty! ;)

edit: I'll keep using RSRBR10 for this season too!

pettersolberg29

That explains it then. I'm simply going to have to try and force RSRBR to work...

Bruce D
5th October 2010, 12:03
Hmm, well the only other way to do it would be for someone neutral like say NeverKnow to do a comparison run through the stages and I could work out the percentage difference in speed between the 2 and then ps29 just does the stages using the graphics and I work it out from there. I don't know how else to do it. Any suggestions?

That's very complicated just for my benefit though. I'll fiddle around with the Monte mod and RSRBR and when it takes me over 3 mins to do Cote d'Arbroz I know that I have the right mod.

p.s. thanks Bruce for trying to make it easier - maybe it'll be easier in other events without RSRBR.
p.p.s may need a deadline extension if I have to use RSRBR.

I'd be willing to host a non RSRBR championship if the interest was there

Macd
5th October 2010, 15:36
@Ps. i would try doing a complete uninstall of rbr, and rbrsr + any related programs, Delete the rbr folder in program files, then restart your pc and try re installing rbr then the patch. then rbrsr and all the updates, then the car pack.

I seem to remember having a problem similar to yours, but I don't have a clue how I fixed it :(

There is quite a large margin for error there, I would suggest an average time difference by two or more people, but that's quite a lot of effort.

do you mean a mod free championship? if so its not a bad idea, because as good these RBR championships are-they are good, don't get me wrong, but one of the things that holds me back from entering is the messing about with constant mods and having to download massive updates every couple of months. also I'm pretty awful at RBR....

I have finished with my shakedown runs and I did quite a few of them. I tried out different setup tweaks and how snow/wet tar tires behaved on different surfaces. My times were:
1:03,76 1:58,97 3:19,07 - wet asphalt tires, hit side railing with the rear of the car and spun
1:02,50 1:55,77 3:08,56 - tried the limits of wet tar tires on ice, I was pretty much on the brakes all the times and staying on the safe side of the traction limit.

Rest of the runs were with snow tires:
0:59,35 1:51,82 2:58,45
0:58,24 1:49,77 2:56,01
0:57,15 1:46,96 2:52,60
0:57,44 1;46,64 2:52,64 - little sloppy at the hairpins and could possible win a second or two.

Overall the car felt good but seeing how difficult the itinarery is, my aim is to finish in one piece.

This one Is a retire for me... Don't know If the real Monte Carlo rally Is as difficult
as the one In game, but couldn't keep the car on the road no matter what!
I used various tires for the event, but none was capable of giving a right grip.
Was spinning around every once and while, falling down at crests, using call for help all the time!
Really tried hard to finish, but super rally came at ss5 and complete retirement
In the final stage of the rally, wher I lost my temper and got very risky!

2 out of 2 retirements In Monte Carlo (Including last season's event).
Maybe next year wll be better!

edit: Bruce Ignore my Joux Verte II run, as I forgot to make It a night stage!
Did It right after!

Just finished my rally and submited my times. It was really tough one for me and I am happy I didn't retire.

The most eventful was day one. I struggled on all those three stages and battled with terrible understeer. On SS1 hit a stone wall about 7k into the stage. Wheels just locked up at a very slow speed and I hit the wall side on. Didn't do any damage though and I could continue.

SS2 I had trouble with some of the hairpins when the car didn't turn in as I would liked. SS3 I tried to go as fast as I could but unfortunately for me I hit a house wall with the rear of the car and did a 360. No mechanical damage and finished the stage but it took some time to get going again.

Second day was best for me. I took safe approach and didn't had any problems.

Last day went without major incidents but I did battle with some of the hairpins on SS7.

The biggest problem for me was predicting how much grip was available. Sometimes I had lots of grip on snow but next time I was at a similar road texture then I didn't had no grip at all.

Like I said before my aim was simply to survive it and I am happy that I finished. I will not make any predictions but I think I was slow on most of the stages and I think podium is out of my reach.

I have managed to find somebody at my Uni who can get RSRBR to work, so I will be able to complete the rally, but my times will be awful as I will have no experience of those conditions whatsoever. I'm hoping slow and steady will win the race, or at least get me somewhere!

I managed a 3:02.22 in shakedown with a 2001 Cordoba. It wasn't the best run either. I'd say I could get it down to 2:58.xx with more practice. For now, I've still to decide on a final car for the event.

Just finished the rally, it was very ticky but I think times will be ok, I did all stages with tarmac wet tyres as I thought the amount of snow was not enought to justify low traction snow tyres and I think it was a good strategy. But hey well see when times get on :D .

Finished days 1 and 2 (thanks for the extension, Bruce  )

First two stages car felt as if it was slithering on the icy patches, and for the most part the fronts never wanted to steer where I wanted them to. SS3 was sligtly better as the grip felt pretty good.

Day 2 went well. Contacted a tree within the last 1km of SS4 and we putted along to the finish.

Both stages were so slick and traction non existent. Really babied it til the end.

You so badly want to attack, but its just not possible with the low grip...

Did anyone do any major diff adjustments for this rally?

On the ice the understeer was simply overwhelming. I would thing some diff magic could make the car do fairly well on these mixed surfaces...

I used defaults-those diff menus scare the h@#$ out of me...

pettersolberg29

Just finished my rally. Used snow tyres on every stage, and somehow managed to avoid any incidents except one jump start! Don't know how good my times are as I have literally never driven on Monte before, let alone in the dark! Having said that, reading other people's comments, I think I may have done OK as I kept it on the road and at least finished the rally.
I really enjoyed the rally - I love the challenge of slow rallies where finishing is hard. Faster rallies are less about skill and more about balls and luck!
First day went well, with good stage times and rhythm. Second and third day not so well as I just pottered along about 3/4 speed. Somehow managed to go slower on Joux Plane 2 in the light than in Joux Plane 1 in the dark!
Looking forward to results.

p.s. my email is playing up Bruce so I will have to PM the results to you. Sorry about that.

I'm very glad that Macd finally got a rally win and I'm happy that ps29 is showing very good pace with WR car. A full podium for the team is a great way to start the season.

I'm also glad over my result, 2nd is a very good for me considering the difficulty of the rally. Six 2nd stage times and one 6th stage shows the consistency is there but I need some extra to get a stage win which I haven't done in the last two rallies.

Looking forward to next rally...

A glance at last years Monte results show some really good pace from MacD.

His win did not surprise me. Good drive, mate

Great drive MacD - can only echo you in saying I'm delighted to have a lock-out of the podium with OMV Redbull.
Delighted with my pace on a couple of stages - it all went wrong on SS4 and 5 which I expected, but it shows potential! Glad to win Cote D'Arbroz as I spent ages fine tuning set up to go flat out on it. More suprised with the huge gap on SS1 - seemed even up to split 2 then somehow I pulled something out the hat.
Anyway, congrats to MacD and NK and to all who finished! Shame you couldn't take part Bruce but thanks for sorting it out for us.

Did you use wet tarmac tires throughout, PS29?

Nope-used snow tyres for most stages but don't remember exactly which ones. I know I used wet tarmac for Cote D'arbroz and one other.

Looking at the splits, I hadn't a patch on anyone, anywhere. Time to move on :D

Finally have a chance to type on a computer and not a phone :)

Really happy to have won, it was really close in parts, and to get full points for OMV. We've got our title defence off to a great start. First 1-2-3 finish if I remember correctly? Really looking forward to the rest of the season now :)

I'm aiming for consistency as well as speed this season, since that seemed to be my undoing in season 2

@bruce : luckily juex plane had been my testing stage so i knew it quite well. I think I ran that stage in every weather and surface imaginable :O

Well technically you don't even need to install their plugin, just use their cars if you want to use more updated cars. The original cars are allowed too so the choice is yours. Give me a shout if you want to know how to install new cars.

I would consider installing RSRBR, but it seems quite complicated, you wouldn't be able to help would you? i'm on Windows 7 if thats of any importance

The easiest way is to download the main installer and then the big car pack and just install both. Not really that difficult. The problem comes if you want to keep it up to date all the time. Let me know specific questions and either me or someone here will help.
