Channel 10 has announced it's third channel. Along with Seven's 7mate and Nine's GEM, Channel 10's third channel will be called imaginatively... Eleven.

The problem is that Channel 10 currently hosts Formula One broadcasts live on ONE Digital and ONE HD. When Eleven is launched, this will create a bandwidth issue for the network, and so ONE Digital will be dropped entirely to make room for Eleven, meaning that you either need an HD television (which I don't have), or have or have to watch delayed Formula One broadcasts again.

I only just got used to seeing races live again. Channel 10 on their 10 network haven't shown a single race live for years, and now they're doing it to us again.
I guess I'll have to get an HD telly if I want to see F1 live again, even though my perfectly good Digital SD television works fine.

Nice one Channel 10. I hope someone leaves a flaming sack o' poop on your doorstep... I know I will.

Time to get with the 21st century and buy a Hi-definition TV.

Can get them from 500 bucks these days.

If you don't want a hi-def TV don't whine when you can't get all the channels you want on your old granny box.

Seriously bro, stop being an ass!

(And if it isn't obvious, I am referring to you insulting people for not owning an HD tv)

Rollo, you probably spend more on cigarettes per year.

I got myself a 42" Toshiba TV for free. It was worth around 430 € or so, but as Spain won the World Cup, they sent me a cheque for the price of my TV.

"Old Granny Box"? The telly that sits in my front room is a plasma Panasonic Viera, which is only 6 years old.
6 years! I expect more than just 6 years out of something I paid a couple of grand for.

You don't need a HD television, only a set top box. $80 at JB Hifi.

Yeah was pretty assey of me!

But what I was getting at is that we have had One Digital now for a couple years now. Ten need to make bandwidth for new channels. The analogue network has started shutting down around Australia and cities will continue to switch off the analogue network as each month passes.

You can work your way into a new TV pretty cheap. I don't see that Ten should need to continue hand-holding with people because they're not at least a little up to date.

Not true.

A digital set top box will only deliver channels which are non hi-definition to a non hi-definition TV.

There are 2 kinds of digital TV: Standard resolution and Hi-Definition.

One HD is hi-def, One Digital is standard. When they shutdown One Digital you will need a hi-def TV to watch ONE.

You can buy a set top box if your hi-def TV does not have a TV tuner, but that would be pretty rare that a TV these days comes without an inbuilt tuner.

Makes a lot of sense, I just didn't think you could do that. Learn something new every day.

And for those who are in Melbourne, and have access to Costco, it may be advantageous checking the prices of set top boxes there or even a new TV. And if it is not to your liking, you can return it and get your money back; how good is that?
