View Full Version : V8 Supercar Rd 2 Eastern Ck Preview

Peter Vuko
9th March 2007, 23:51
Welcome to a new segment involving the V8 Supercar series for 2007. Before each Rd we will preview the up coming Rd. In this segment we will review where possible last years results & times & hopefully share how the cars are going in the lead up to the event, like what times you are doing in practice, problems encountered & set up advice for those who need it.

Last year we had 3 sprint races - this year that will not be the case. Peter Vuko in th Holden won the Rd winning 2 of the 3 races - Muz winning the other. The top 5 times in qualifying were:

Default Race:
1.P.Vuko 1m.06.75
2.Muz 1m.07.06
3.BobZee 1m.07.70
4.S.Vuko 1m.08.40
5.dcr22B 1m.09.00

Free Set Up Race:
1.P.Vuko 1m.05.46
2.Muz 1m.05.94
3.S.Vuko 1m.06.63
4.Homer 1m.07.17
5.BobZee 1m.07.18

At Adelaide we saw the cars much faster than last year, so more than likely the times will get better again although that qualifying time by Vuko Snr in the Free Set Up Race could be hard to beat. Lets keep the comments coming guys!!

I ran a very short practice here a few days ago but I managed a 1:07:20.

But I'm on a high after doing the 1:10 in the DTM that Vuko Snr said would be unlikely. ;)

I have started practicing for the Eastern Creek round, and fiddled around with the set up, but just can't get the car sorted. I thought I would be able to get it all worked out, trying this and that, but have to admit that I am lost as to what to do. Can anyone suggest a basic set up that will at least give me a chance of getting it sorted. I put in around 50 laps so far, with a best time of (this is embarrassing) 1:11:25. Any idea's ?

Peter Vuko

Hey Maxu05 I will pm you a decent set up for the Holden. I have not put my car on the track yet - give me a few days!

Brown, Jon Brow
10th March 2007, 11:02
I've found that the fuel load can really slow you down here. If you want do fast qualifying laps make sure you only have a few laps in the session .

does anyone have a good setup for the fords?

my lap times are very bad to what you guys post...

my best lap time on Eastern Creek is around 1.10

Is there anyway you could tell me if I raced at this round last year? I would be interested to compare my times. I like Eastern Creek as a racing track but I always struggle with annoying AI drivers here, particularly at turn 2.

Yet to hit the track yet (not literally though..might hurt punching the tarmac)..

But i like this circuit, although theres a couple of tricky corners that might catch a few people out.

Need to work on default settings first before messing with any set up ideas.

Looking forward to Eastern Creek. The BOC car is showing plenty of speed, with full setups, at this early stage of practice. A smooth entry and exit through the sweeping corners seems to be the secret.

Very bad.

I think that all your times from FPA Championship be cheated. I will veer when I will see some your really good time in HOF. For example 40.35 at Barbagello in FPA. You made this time in race, so you should not have problem with this.

1.A.Sloma - Ford - 1m.05.41
2.BobZee - Ford - 1m.05.98
3.J.B. - Ford 1m.07.20
4.R/Rules - Holden - 1m.08.65
Its only early days but sloma showing good pace. Wait until the Holdens turn up !!!

I seem to be missing of this list? :uhoh: By the way on the website it states that I am from GBR but I am actually an Aussie  . Innocent mistakes no doubt. Can't wait for the 'Creek' round, little bit more confident here that I am at Adelaide. Had a run against some mate online the other night and was pulling comparable times to those stated above, so i hope I will be in the hunt this round. :burnout:

I improved with a default setup to gain a 1:06:89, but with alterations to the set-up i've managed a 1:05:92. Which put's me second :D
1.A.Sloma - Ford - 1m.05.41
2.J.Brown - Ford - 1m.05.92
3.BobZee - Ford - 1m.05.98
4.Harvick - Holden - 1m.07.05

2.BobZee - Ford - 1m.05.61
3.J.Brown - Ford - 1m.05.92
4.Harvick - Holden - 1m.07.05
5.R/Rules - Holden - 1m.08.65

I think with a bit more tweaking, the BOC Ford can hit the low 5's :)

I'm finding the Ford much easier to handle than the Holden last season for some reason.

Managed a 1:06.24 on my third practice lap. Very happy with that.

Peter Vuko
12th March 2007, 10:46
The Supercheap Holden found quick form at Eastern Ck. After a 15 lap practice session the reigning champion posted a quick 1m.05.35.
The top practice times so far:
1.P.Vuko - Holden 1m.05.35
2.A.Sloma - Ford 1m.05.41
3.BobZee - Ford 1m.05.61
4.J.B - Ford 1m.05.92
5.Homer - Ford 1m.06.24
6.Harvick - Holden 1m.07.02
7.R/Rules - Holden 1m.08.65
That's better - sorry J.B
Details regarding the race will go up Thursday evening. Keep practising!!!

Going to be close again me thinks. Is the round default set up again?

Muz
12th March 2007, 12:23
Muz hit the track for the first of his 2 practice sessions tonight and posted a 1.05.10 to lead the field. He will now concentrate on race setup in the 2nd session as this track demands a different approach with heavier fuel load and harder tyres.

maxu05

Are we running in default mode ? It seems as though nobody wants to answer this question. What's happening ?

Brown, Jon Brow
12th March 2007, 13:20
I don't know but I've done a session in default and a session with set-ups.

My PB in default was 1m06.8
My PB with set-up is 1m05.9

maxu05
12th March 2007, 13:24
I think I will continue to practice in default mode, I'm sure that's how we are racing.

I am evil Homer
12th March 2007, 15:37
It only matters to me in terms of strategy because on default you can go about 15 laps in and not drop a lot of time of this track.

harvick#1
12th March 2007, 18:40
I hope its a free setup because I can only run minute 9's with a default at best, maybe I can get down to a minute 8.

but I can run alot better with a setup under me, I don't think I will be able to run under a minute 7 seconds but I'll be running in low-mid minute 7's because of tires and fuel.

Peter Vuko
12th March 2007, 22:18
The details for the race will go up Thursday evening. You will then know if it is default or free set up or both. Practice in both modes is recommended. I don't make up my mind until the last minute about the race details. By the way, quick time Muz - I wonder if 4's are possible?

Won't be hitting the track myself to practice until Saturday evening but I'll probably wait as late as possible before doing my actual races. Going on my times from 2006, looks like I might have a bit of work to do to be up there with them practice times.

I am evil Homer
13th March 2007, 10:02
4's are possible with soft tyres but in race conditions pretty impossible with the fuel and harder tyres...6s for sure, maybe even mid to high 5's if you get a tow down the straight.

Peter Vuko
13th March 2007, 11:49
Yes, 4's are achievable - I just got the old Holden to do a 1m.04.98. This won't be achievable in race trim with much harder tyres & a load of fuel. It will be interesting to see if I can match this in real qualifying & shootout. So the top practice times at the moment are:
1.P.Vuko.(H). 1m.04.98
2.Muz.(F)... ..1m.05.10
3.A.Sloma.(F).1m.05.41
4.BobZee.(F)..1m.05.61
5.S.Vuko.(H)...1m.05.90

7.Homer.(F)....1m.06.24
8.harvick.(H)...1m.07.02
9.R/Rules.(H)...1m.08.65

I encourage people to participate in these sessions - its fun. By posting on Codies it gives people assurances that you can achieve the times
