He managed to finish 3rd at Montecarlo in F3000 during 2001 - if he does at least the same in the Rallye he will suceed in two completely different motorsport entities.

I think it's not possible because of Eurosport TV schedule.

Im sorry but what does Eurosport TV schedule have to do with the number of entry's?!

Its obvious they wont broadcast all crews live, they wouldn't even with 80 entrants, so that cannot be a problem.

The only problem I see is that the last crews will go into the night stages way too late, specially if they do 2 minutes intervals.

Mirek
31st October 2010, 20:47
It has a lot to do with that. Event timetable is made to suit TV schedule which is made months before. Basically a time between two runs of same stage is given by TV and You can't make it longer. I don't know how much it could affect particular stages but for sure it may be a reason.

Francis44
31st October 2010, 20:50
Yeah probably but that is just bollocks.....Limit the number of entry's because of Eurosport seems ridiculous as they only show 20 crews and no more than that.

Mirek
31st October 2010, 20:52
You have two options than. You can either run live stage at given time or run the stage without TV broadcast ;)

Well I remember that when Monte was in WRC the maximum number of entries was something like 60 (allowed). So, I was quite surprised by the number over hundred. More cars makes the event quite hard to organize (size of Service, Park ferme etc.).

Only because it ain't a World Championship event? Quesnel sounds bitter. Feels like a lack of appreciation for the sport.

It would have been a good way to promote the DS3 a bit more too (maybe even as a zero car). Centenary edition, live coverage of every stage, etc etc.

Monegasque Daniel Elena, who used to be a regular on the event as a driver before forming his dominant partnership with Loeb, has submitted an entry to pilot a Citroen DS3 R3 and is expected to be one of the lucky 100 applicants accepted by organiser, the Automobile Club de Monaco, when it finalises the list of starters on December 6.

The ACM confirmed this evening that it had received more than 250 entry requests for the event, which runs from January 18-22. They include IRC champion Juho Hanninen, his Skoda Motorsport team-mate Jan Kopecky, Monte Carlo podium finisher and former IRC title-winner Nicolas Vouilloz, and French legend Francois Delecour, who won the event in 1994 when it counted as a round of the world championship.

Plans to increase the maximum number of starters to 150 for 2012 have already been discussed such has been the level of interest in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge opener.

With two weeks remaining before applications for the 79th Monte Carlo Automobile Rally 2011 close, the Automobile Club de Monaco has now received more than 250 registrations for this centenary edition of worlds oldest motorsport event.

One would have to turn the clock back to the 1980s to match that number of appearances for the Monegasque event.

Only one hundred crews will take part in this years event, so a selection will have to be made, unfortunately for those who do not make the cut. Should this phenomenal interest continue, the Automobile Club de Monaco aims to increase the application limit to 150 crews in 2012.

The official teams have already sent the ACM the names of the drivers and co-drivers who will open the 2011 Intercontinental Rally Challenge season:
* For Skoda, which is celebrating its own 110th anniversary: Hanninen / Markkula, Loix / Miclotte, Kopecky / Stary, Vouilloz / Veillas and Mikkelsen / Floene
* For Peugeot: Magalhaes / Magalhaes (Portugal), Neuville / Klinger and Wilks / Pugh (UK)
* Also Delecour / Savignoni (Peugeot 207 S2000), Elena, 7-time co-driver world champion with his inseparable team-mate Campana, in a DS3 R3, and Gardemeister / Tuomi.

As soon as the application window is closed, on 6th December 2010, the selection committee will draw up a list of the 100 crews selected and publish immediately the results with names.

Autosport Magazine reports Dani Sordo has been offerred a 207 for Monte. I guess it will depend on his permanent employment situation for next year whether he takes it or not.
The way I read the story is that Sordo wants to drive Monte, but the choice of car (he is allowed) to drive will depend on IF he signs with Mini and what if any restrictions will BMW put on that, all academic depending if he signs with Mini. If he pays for a customer Ford then I guess its straightforward, he gets a Fiesta for MC.

This is probably the realistic view unless Proton can make some steps with the reliability. However it is good to see them trying and they usually come with pretty good drivers too.

People often say about the less good cars that they "have potential" but I think the Proton really has. Considering the limited resources that they have the car is not too bad.

No, "1 Malaysia Racing" only bought a licence from Proton to use the Lotus name in F1. There is an ongoing dispute about whether that team will even be called Lotus next year.

I agree about the Reiger shocks though!

And Renault is also buying shares in one of them. But compared to this money, to upgrade the Satria would be pocketchange for Proton, and the return huge, and would sell them many more cars than F1 ever will !!

Probably PG is replacing McRae in Monte. Mcrae is always occupied with the Dakar effort in January and therefore unable to reach in time to Monte (last leg in Dakar starts later than the recce in Monte). This year there are even 7 McRae buggys at the start list for Dakar.

Also Nasser and few other drivers there. I also noticed than Jan Tomanek is in Dakar together with Michael Honda.

I quitly hope petter does not succced in finding a ride with a 1,6t WRCar, but with a S2000 in IRC.
It makes you think, Peugeot-Citroen cannot have more then 2 1,6t WRcars in WRC, but they can employ 6 works S2000's in IRC. Why the hell did the FIA choose the 1,6t route instead of the logical S2000+ option? The FIA and Citroen wanted to keep the WRC only for the elite? With the S2000+ option the WRC would have 20 plus cars fighting for wins, podiums

is the 100 entry limit self inflicted, or is it written in some regulations ?

I think it's self imposed. Hopefully the 100 they choose will be pretty sure to start.

...but still beautiful... at last: Gardemeister, Wittmann, Basso, Brynildsen, Robert, Aigner... (plus the others officially announced before already) if they all really appear (not entering the type of car by some makes me suspicious...), then it'll be the best Monte since its IRC period...

It's only a pity about Ford - such a good car and no good driver (except Henning)...

Yes, some disappointments but also some good surprises!

It's a shame that the powers that be at Ford seem to be quite anti IRC, even though it would be a good market place for them.

Any intelligence on what car Basso will use?

Seeing the list and the weather conditions right now, it would be among Henning, Hanninen and Mikkelsen, noone else...

Would like to see him in a S2000 car finally and the outcome against proper drivers (Petter, Henning, Mikkelsen, Hänninen, Kopecky etc)

I think it has to be a Renault...

Edit, or maybe not since Renault reduced their involvement with the F1 team. a Proton? :D

No chance, wrong car... ;-) In WRC he always had better car compared to his brother, now he has no chance against Henning...

Peugeot 207 S2000 is not a bad car at all, should be almost equal with Škoda. I see no disadvantage for Petter and he has more talent than his brother Henning IMHO
