Finnish friends, are you hearing Jakke and Jussi commentating on Eurosport 2? Or are they just with Eurosport 1? I tried to tweak TV's sound setups but wasn't able to get Finnish commentary. Jakke, as a (ex) codriver, likes to keep his mouth closed during onboards which is a style I like.

Just few days back I read a Finnish book which reviews year's motorsport happenings and there was an interview with Juho. He told that the Skoda deal and especially the testing in terrible rain, mud, gravel filled Czech tarmac roads have helped him to improve his tarmac driving very, very lot. Thanks Czechs for having nice special tarmac roads which help Finnish drivers to improve. ;-)
He was very aggressive on the final part, sliding a lot. Very good, push it Juho!

Great, consistent day from Juho. Very pleased - and nervous, this is still Monte.
That last part of the stage was crazy. Against the limiter for seconds and seconds. Skodas had clearly faster top speed.

First day completed, I'm still pleasantly surprised over Hanninen pace-obviously he found a good rhythm and he is feeling very confidently-especially as today stages were dry and so written on the skin of tarmac specialists. It is a big question if anybody can catch him if the snow&ice will be on the program as he is the master of mixed conditions...Peter is doing great and also Delecour is very very fast, yust look young guns behind him....

It's early days yet... A few things to consider; Mikko drove well but wasn't that quick and took quite a lucky win last year. This year Hanninen doesn't have to think about the title and can drive a bit harder. Petter has still been very fast even if he hasn't won a stage yet.

+1
we have also to see that after ss2 and while Juho has a gap of 35,6 sec going to ss3 make the gap 45,2.This is a good time margin to drive risky in ss4.So in ss4 he is just some tenths slower to another fabia this of Loix.He seems that he has some more if he has to use.
Also that about he is not going to participate at hole championship for Juho, this is the same for Petter...He can also attack without risking championship points.
My view is just like last year.Wrc big boys are not faster than irc drivers with s2000 cars.Works cars for Hirvonen and Solberg with a lot of testing and everything they need.
I am not considering who is going to win,as we saw last year in Monte doesn t win the faster.Just pure speed through the stages, the stages without obvious problems for both of course.

Have you seen the merged footage of Hanninen vs Solberg?
The one from the twisty part shown again on eurosport now in the evening showed Solberg gaining a bit on braking in each of 5-6 corners in a row. How much of a difference on braking does a car make how much a driver?
The second one from last part of SS4 showed Hanninen gaining tons of time due to higher topspeed of the Fabia (both on rev limiter). Solberg lost 10 seconds in about as many kms at the end of both stage 3 and 4 in a flat-out section. How much of a difference does a car and a driver make in a section with few corners on rev-limiter?
In my opinion Hanninen is a driver that compares well with the top 6 WRC drivers, Loix was driving in WRC before so we could see how he did, same is true for Sarrazin, Kopecky and Vuilloz. That kind of leaves only Bouffier as an unknown, but aren't there enough "known" drivers around him in IRC to compare against?
Btw. some people claim that most of Hirvonens last year victory on Monte was down to him using "special" Pirelli tires made for Monte while everyone else had to use normal BFGoodrich ones.

All todays ss had sections running at limiter? Don t think so.The gap is very big for a faultless drive for both.
Also they used different tyres so splits can t say the truth in terms which car/driver has advantage in brakes etc.
Except that you can compare differences between Petter/Sarrazin to see that it is not the difference you see from a works driver to a second class driver(ie Solberg P vs Villagra or Sordo vs Henning we see at wrc)

Hi guys, I have just returned from stages. I could see SS1, 3, 4. It's really bloody fast in dry but the temperature goes down a lot. On Saint Bonnet we were at four huge crashes of Boetti, Cinotto, Ihle and Gendre. All four cars are gone in my opinion. In all cases they lost control over a bump in high speed and landed deep under the road. Boetti had some health problem because after some ten minutes after his crash, from which he walked away, they called him ambulance and in the end even helicopter. I hope he's ok soon.

However, really loved the coverage from Eurosport and Rally Radio, including the much cooler virtual spectator! Is it so that the Peugeot has a different kind of gearbox than Skoda and Ford? If so, could that be the reason for the difference in top speed? Not just the difference in choosing a gearbox with high vs. low gearing? I suspect that the Peugeot with high gearing would loose a lot to the Skoda in the twisty sections we saw yesterday, where Petter was the quickest driver in both passings.

Exactly, if you put longer gears on to achieve higher top speed then you will lose some in acceleration. I believe the Skoda can run higher top speeds without sacrificing too much acceleration because it has a very torquey engine.

1. I'd really like to see a Big Gun in a Ford Fiesta.
I guess all the Fiestas are in SWRC.
2. The Second interviewer is nominated to be
"The all time most annoying interviewer." :D
3. I'd like to see the tension build up on the splits.
Go to incar cam 1 km before the split and do it for every car.
That way we could see different lines and make some comparison.
4. Like to see snow to be able to compare Hänninens speed to Solbergs.
5. Solberg isn't at his best on tarmac, is he.
Has he won any WRC tarmac event.
6. Fiesta goes 169 km/h as well.

A bit surprised for citroen DS3 R3T times, against old 2WD cars as Peugeot 207 R3T for example. Citroens not as fast as I expected. Is Ancian a especially fast driver?
Ancian is driving a 207 "dressed into" a DS3 ;)
The evo 2011 Pug uses part of the latest Cit :p :
Nice times also by Adrien Tambay, son of former F1 driver Patrick, whereas he debuted in rallying late last year

He won the JWRC round in the Tour de Corse last year in his first WRC event.
Thnx Wim
