Garde's also going to begin building a junior team to race in IRC

http://www.mtv3.fi/urheilu/ralli/uutiset.shtml/2011/03/1288092/gardemeisterille-oma-rallin-junioritiimi (link has news in finnish regarding this)

Basic translation:
- at first one driver
- driving Ford Fiesta R2
- same rallies Toni does
- costs 20k/rally including everything
- there's been interest in this among drivers
- Toni: "I had a lot of help when I was starting my career and I want to offer my help to an upcoming driver."

Mikkelsen is almost there too. Skoda, Proton, Opel, Ford no Abarth and don't think Peugeot too. Garde need to drive with the Toyota , Polo and MG and he driven them all then I think :D

When did Mikkelsen drive the Proton? I don't remember it.

Mikkelsen had a test in the Proton in March 2009, but as far as I know he didn't drove a rally with it.

That is sped up surely? Or is it just the Giandomenico effect :D

Anyway, still impressive precision from car and driver. I really think for this year's IRC calendar there is no better choice than Basso. Better than McRae or Atkinson even.

Photos from Proton testing.
Proton is looking the third driver for Yalta rally. Firstly it was proposed to drive to former Ukrainian champions - Saluik and co-driver Chervonenko. First of them is father of current Ukrainian champion - Saliuk Jr. Chervonenko is chief of FAU (federation).
But Ukrainian federation proposed to review both Ukrainian champions - Saliuk (current) and Protasov (2008).
So, photos are from the testing.
As a guide there was Basso.

Fellow rally fans in Belgium, has there been any comfirmations on Neuville's further IRC calendar? I am of course interested in knowing whether Barum is in or out. Considering his brilliant result in Corsica there could be some more sponsor money to do both Yalta and Zlin... or not?

I think they decided to do Yalta to score more points for championship, as opposition in Barum will be very tough. Considering his actual shape, you never know ofcourse. I think it will be decided later on, after Yalta and Ypres. If he makes good results in those rallies, i think there might be good possibility that Thierry will try to convince Peugeot to do extra events, maybe even supported by Peugeot Sport.

I have been suggesting this for a while - it would give the IRC some FIA status and it would give ERC decent television coverage and publicity. It would also mean there was a decent official second tier championship for rallying (like what GP2 is to F1)

The draft calendar looks pretty good to me. Better balance of asphalt/gravel than this year and still retaining the 'IRC classics' apart from Monte.

Well, only as much TV as the Organisers are happy to pay for!
If the ERC and IRC merged, would that mean that the ERC events would have to start paying the sanction fee to Eurosport?

Mirek
3rd September 2011, 10:17
Sanction is a bad word for that. It's just an entry fee for the event and it's not that much for thousand times better quality of drivers and coverage compared to ERC. Moreover if they have money, they can buy live stages, in ERC not at all.

Quite agree, the ERC is in a TV vacuum, the IRC gets good, sometimes great TV coverage. Staying in Europe cuts down on travelling costs - it's really a no brainer!!
Still think it's a shame about the Monte, the IRC 'rescued' a struggling event - and turned it around into a proper Monte - and voila, the WRC take it back. I would replace the Monte with Valais...was impressed with that event in 2008.

Yeah, I read that. The problem seems to be the cost of having only snow event, i;e too expensive. It really needs to happen, an International Rally series needs a snow event.
As for Rally Scotland - it will open the season in March, which is late to start a season, but only 5 months after the 2011 event. Let's hope it runs, so far, the event has been very poorly supported by British Rallying.

It was Quesnel doing the whining last year.

As we know the Kronos and PH Sport cars are pretty much works cars and I think Skoda only generally do a one day pre-event test, as do Peugeot?

This year could have been quite different for Peugeot without the accidents, break downs and illegalities.

Van Dalen also was supporting the same oppinion like Quesnel what's not a surprise. And it's still the same thing what Van Dalen says is coming out of PSA so simple it is he's really not independent for such things. Offcourse they do almost every rally pre events tests. They're just talking bullcrap for the general IRC audience who don't know everything about rallying, rallies, teams and other stuff what involves rally.
