Should be a good race, it was pretty good last year. I think a Busch brother will win.

Wow, 11 pm and they probably got another hour of racing to go on a Sunday night... who schedules this stuff??

A good race all and all, Tony ran a great race. I am a little surprised that KK came back out and hassled Newman, I think there's a better place to do that then 180 mph at Atlanta.

all I can say is that Nascar threw the typical Jooyner Caution BS again, when is this crap gonna end!!!!!!!!!

What's really funny is that I called it not two minutes before it happened. My daughter got a big chuckle out of it.
If you watch enough of these things you know exactly what NASCAR will do. I hope they don't think they're fooling anybody.

yeah I was on the Harvick board following the race and everyone was wondering if a caution free race was in order, I kept posting that once Jooyner is gonna go a lap down, magic debris just appears

You know, Junior cannot receive a free pass without someone making comment. Lots of others this year have received the same benefit of debris cautions but it's only mentioned when Dale Jr. is the beneficiary.
For the record, it's his third this year, about average for drivers running the full schedule. Others, like Denny Hamlin (10), Ryan Newman (8), Clint Bowyer (6) Carl Edwards (5). Travis Kvapil has received the most (12). Kevin Harvick has received 1 (Daytona) in which they corrected his handling and came back and won. Nascar throws questionable cautions quite a bit, but just because you think something happened, doesn't mean it did.
Changing the subject slightly, Sunday's race proved that they should probably get rid of the free pass, as cars are able to use the wave-around to make up laps as many did so Sunday. They are penalized by having to pit sooner and/or having worn tires, but it's worth the gamble as another caution may just get them back on sequence.

Have you suggested this in other series?

My race night comment was exactly the same as the comment harv #1 made. Nowhere in my post did I criticize Dale Jr. since he has no control over when NASCAR makes predictable calls. From what I saw he didn't even benefit from the bogus caution that harv #1 and I predicted that happened.

It's not the 'free pass', it's the 'Aaron's Lucky Dog'.
There's a huge difference in terminology, which can be measured by $$$$. And since it normally (but not always) has little to no bearing on the race result, it shall likely stay in the rulebook.

there have been plenty of races in which Nascar puts him back on the lead lap.
Atlanta was case in point, the race is 132 green flag laps in, and Junior and Martin are about to go a lap down when magically, there is Debris everywhere
I remember a race at Pocono when every time Junior was about to go one lap down (hense a 50 second lap) Debris magically appeared, this happened twice in that race

Usually I would just put all this down to just a bunch of whining, if I didn't hear it all of the following with my own 2 ears.
As some of you know, I follow the races on trackpass raceview and/or pit command (depending on what I have going on- this week was my fantasy football draft and of course it would have to be during the race so I used Pit Command as it uses less memory)...
I also have a second track pass scanner pulled up listening to race control.
On about lap 128 or so, Harvick made a statement that his car was trending tight again, but that it wouldnt be a big deal. Billy Odea, his spotter, said it shouldn't be to long to the net pit stop, then the radio broke up and Race Control started talking on their channel. David Hoots, the race director asked the turn 3 spotter if he saw "anything". Turn (3) replied that the track was clear, that they didn't see anything, Hoots then called turn 2's spotter, and asked him if he saw anything, and a negative reply was given. Hoots then called out two names that I don't remember and told them to switch to channel 2. They both acknowledged his request on channel 1 before swithcing over. Channel 2 must be the "super-secret squirell" channel that track pass scanner doesn't pick up. Then all of a sudden about a lap later (by this time its lap 133) I hear one of the voices that was asked to switch to channel 2 come up on channel 1 and the rest is paraphrasing:
Spotter: Turn 2 to tower
Hoots: Go ahead turn 2
Spotter: There's a piece of debris up high in the groove, can't tell what is.
Hoots: PUT IT OUT, PUT IT OUT DEBRIS IN TURN 2
Note: for those that have never listened to race control on the radio "PUT IT OUT" is Hoots' way of saying Display the Yellow Flag, or Caution's Out (etc).
Of course this is followed by the normal traffic on Harvick's channel-
Billy: Cautions Out, Cautions Out, Caution for debris turn 2 , watch your back (he always says that to remind Harvick not to slow down to quick and get run over)
Harvick: 10-4
As Harvick is circulating around the track catching back up with the leader and the pace car there were lappers between him and the leader (at this time he was P4 about 5 seconds back) he and Gil had the usual back and forth pre-pit stop radio traffic when he suddenly exclaimed:
Harvick: Billy, did u say the caution was for debris? WHERE?
Billy: They said Turn 2
Harvick: I havent seen anything anywhere...oh wait a minute...I just figured out what it was for, is that the 88 right there next to the 11 ?
(this was about the time the lead lap cars had all formed up and were dropping off the track to go into the pits and the lappers would have still been behind the pace car).
Billy: yep, the 88 had just got lapped and he's the Lucky Dog!
So you see, even the competitors know the deal. Harvick wouldn't be complaining about it, the caution helped get him caught back up, as it was he drove the car from p29 at the start to p4 the old fashioned way and was probably needing a caution right about then to get a drink and relax his arms for a second.
I didn't used to really believe in all that mess, but now that I heard it with my own ears that even the competitors believe in it I guess it must be for real.
That is a shame, but as many here have heard before, It is what it is..... :grenade:

Alex specifically mentioned the "wave around", and not the "Lucky Dog". Don't worry, Alex is plenty smart enough to know the difference.
I agree with him. I think the "wave around" and the "Lucky Dog" are both bogus. They should both be done away with.

Thanks slo for your story. It may very well have happened that way. There have been many questionable debris cautions over the years, and I have seen them benefit lots of different drivers. It seems like it is mentioned only when it affects Jr. which honestly is not that often.

Hamlin got fined a couple months ago (for reasons that NASCAR never specified). I think it was due to his comments during a press-conference and on twitter in which he acknowledged how fictitious the debris cautions often are. As a fan of the sport, I find this kind of stuff disheartening and really unnecessary.

As I said earlier in this thread, if you watch these races for as long as many of us have, it's not to hard to figure out what's going to happen next. Denny got busted for telling the truth about bogus cautions but a lot of us saw them long before he spilled the beans.
When half the field is a lap down before the midway point of the race NASCAR throws a caution flag to bunch things up before fans start tuning out. When the TV cameras don't show the debris I assume it's bogus.

Of course, you have all this proof.....other than your supposition?
Just because you don't see it on TV, don't mean it isn't there....
I will agree NASCAR is pretty political with how they can overlook debris or not...but I would never say there is never ANY debris....

Hey...it is NASCAR's little game they play to make great TV..or not great TV depending on how you like it. You can show your displeasure by not watching......and letting NASCAR know why...

even though it was a long green flag run, Stewart and Hamlin were constantly battling for the lead, and several drivers were much faster than them coming up through the field.
it gets kinda sad that Nascar has to dip into the IRL books and keep trying to hype a average driver at best. I just dont think Jr cares anymore, he was a good driver earlier in his career, but now he just doesnt wanna race
