Glad to see Boris win today at Montreal in a very entertaining race. For those who didn't see he won in a photo finish over Max Papis. Marcos Ambrose and Carl Edwards dominated stretches of the race, but both had mechanical issues.
Jacques Villeneuve was third and I thought he had a shot, but it wasn't to be.
Good day for the ringers so to speak. :D

It's a beautiful circuit. In a perfect world, I would love to see Cup add this track and Road America. 4 Road Tracks a year would be just about right in my book.

I can't wait to see how Marcos Ambrose is going to lose next year.

I've never been particularly impressed with Boris as a driver, but I do seriously respect his dedication. I think he's one of the guys in the garage that just gets in the car for genuine love of the sport. I doubt he's making a ton of money in these handful of starts per year. So I think it's great that he got a win in an upper-level NASCAR series.

C'mon, no love for Robby? From starting dead last to leading the race on the final lap, only to lose in overtime?
Boris was merely a top-5 who got lucky, because everybody ahead of him broke their cars or ran out of gas.

So his win doesnt count? Isnt crossing the finish line at the END of the race part of the race itself? By your logic the guy on pole should just be declared the winner.

a question:
What reason does NASCAR give to not have this circuit to be part of the cup's NASCAR race schedule?
Is it their limit of two road races per season only? (that would be my guess)
a comment:
It was great seeing JV race his heart off and show his talents in a Nascar race.
It would be so cool if he got a permanent ride.
Jack is a racer.

There's no "limit" to the number of road races per season for Cup. NASCAR is free to do as it pleases.
Maybe Cup will be in Montreal some day. I certainly hope so. I went there for the 1996 Canadian GP and loved the track.

Agreed. He's the reason I went to the 1996 Canadian GP.

I tend to dip in and out of Nationwide races, but that one had me hooked from the get go. Not overly impressed with some of the drivers trailing oil round the circuit mind you, but added to the excitement I guess. Watching the last corner again on YouTube, Boris just seems to hook up immediate on landing off the kerb, whereas Max got a bit of a bounce on. Feel sorry for Max, and would also have loved Villeneuve to have won, but you can't really argue with such a tense and exciting finish.

The Cup schedule has been full for abouit a decade. Almost 90% of the dates go to ISC & SMI tracks. For Montreal to get a Cup date would probably require ISC or SMI to become the track promoter, and think they can do well enough there to transfer a Cup date from another track, OR buy Pocono, Dover or IMS and transfer a date. Not going to happen.
In an ideal world I'd like to see Cup races at Portland, Road America and Montreal.

Not a simple equation.
I also notice that the max of road races we will get in the Cup series is two - and not one even "repeated" on the Chase schedule.

What a race! It's such a pretty circuit, I agree it would be great to have a cup race there.

A lot of the owners in the NASCAR garage have hired Boris as the roadracing coach for many of their drivers. I'd say there are very few people inside the racing world who consider Boris to be a "hack". Especially Carl Edwards, who has frequently publicly acknowledged Boris' coaching as the reason he is as fast as he is on road circuits.

And Dale Jarrett, Dale Jr, Kasey Kahne, Ryan Newman, Kevin Havick, Brian Vickers, Jimmy Spencer (those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head that he has given "pointers" to over the years); some have done well with his help, some haven't.
But he has always been most generous with his time and willing to help out any of the regulars who come to him for advice. All he has asked for over the years is some respectfrom them (some give it, some don't).
Although I was pulling hard for Papis to win it (after all he was in Harvick's car) I was not upset with the outcome.
Congrats to Boris, a Job Well Done

Great race finish. Somebody has put a hex on that chicane. Twice in a row the the leader there has been jinxed.
Would love to see Cup cars at Mosport. Easy Drifter & Mark will probably correct me on certain issues.

The Cdn. Tire NASCAR series runs at Mosport twice a year. Once on the oval and once on the road course.
Way back when the USAC stockers ran at Mosport. At that time they had just about as strong a circuit as NASCAR. Mario Andretti rolled a Dodge Charger at turn 2. Other drivers included Rodger Ward, Parnelli Jones and the Unsers. Oh yes and some guy called Richard Petty wandered over from NASCAR.
Crowds were not good.
Would be a different story today if even Nationwide ran there.

I know there are plenty of Boris haters out there but I still love him from his Trans-Am Mustang days, and I'm glad to see him have his day, especially in a race he earned like this one. Good Job Boris! :bounce:

Sadly, yes he does. It's very frustrating to be a Robby fan.

I would love to see it too...but there is a lot of politics involved between Mosport Owner Don Panoz and the France family that would have to be buried (ask Don Panoz how he feels about how the Rolex organizers sandbagged his Panoz GT-1 effort years ago by making him run smaller tires so he wouldn't out run the prototypes). Also, Mosport needs more facilities to handle that event. It was considered in NASCAR's tour of Canada looking for a suitable venue.
AS for Boris, good for him, he is a good guy and a good coach. That said, Ron Fellows is the more consistent threat of the ringers over the years...he and Scott Pruett (who ran in Cup so really has no Ringer status now) were more likely to bring bad cars home in one piece with good finishes. When Ron was getting good rides and (still is), he is getting for the most part good finshes in his Cup or NW efforts. Boris, as Boris wont to do will get too agressive more often than not. At Montreal, it worked for him..and kudo's.
Boris is one of the good guys in the sport....and a great driver's coach...but I would have given my left arm to see JV or Ronnie up there winning this thing...

. . . so there is hope . . .
;)
Faint hope...
Politics between ISC and SMI doom any new track trying to get on the sched.
The only plus is I believe I read somewhere (and I cant remember where or when) that ISC has some sort of promotional deal with the Montreal organizers.
This track is on city land and it is a public facility, so ownership is out of the question for ISC. The best they could do is own the promotional rights and I believe that is the sort of deal they have now
It all comes down to a numbers game, if NASCAR wants 3 road courses in Cup, then Montreal is likely a front runner for a ton of reasons.....
Mosport missed their chance by not having more credible facilities to accomodate the larger crowd with proper stands and a larger NASCAR style Garage paddock. That said, I don't blame the Donald for that...that is a lot of money to spend on speculation that NASCAR will smile on you......and no one saw this race happening almost until the day they announced it, and no one in ISC or NASCAR land seemed to grasp that yes, there are real NASCAR fans up here, and I suspect as many per capita as any place in the US....
