Remembering back to the days of Mickey Mouse stages and long events, does anyone remember the RAC Rally, when it visited Trentham. I have always been interested in it, but it was slightly before my time when they ran this stage.
I would love to hear your memories, and maybe the occasional photo if you had one, I would love to see more of what it was like, as I've only seen ones from in the forest, and nothing from the Italian Gardens etc! :p :

The good old days in rallying!

Memory I have of Trentham on the 84 RAC was of it being the roughest stage of the entire event (or maybe second roughest - one Coed-y-Brenin was somewhat rocky...). We came over a humpback bridge that had Grecian Urns or something similar on the parapet and, as the nose dropped and the lights came down to earth, they picked up 3 frogmen in a rubber boat. Strange thing to find in the road in the middle of a stage.....then the lights picked out the 90 left and the lake beyond it....

I followed a Finnish Manta i200 into the stage and noticed he was on (then road legal) 3-grooved slicks. That must have been fun in the ruts and boulders. I believe he'd had his spare wheels stolen off the roof of his service car in Chester the night before.
