Toyota Avensis!

Would prefer it to be a British make but at least its built in the country I suppose!

It's about as British as any mass production car is now days. Still it is interesting that Toyota say they will be keeping a close eye on the project. I hope the testing goes well enough for the car to race at the end of the season.

That photoshop looks pretty mean!

Ive been on pistonheads and I cant believe the muppets who are struggling to understand the new NGTC rules! They all think that all the cars are going to be running the same TOCA engine and running the same chassis when it clearly states that the engine is optional. Makes me feel a bit better about myself anyway ;) :D

Isn't Pistonheads full of Evo drivers anyway?

And bright orange Ford Focus owners...

I disagree, I think it looks awful. It looks like the saloon car made by some Chinese manfacturer whose name I've forgotten.

That picture is not of the Toyota Avensis, that was the picture of a generic NGT-car released months ago.

I thought it actually looked a bit like a Vauxhall Insignia in terms of body shape... but apparently not.

there you go, first artist's impressions of the toyota avensis NGTC prototype. take a look at the second picture down, from the front: Wow, that is what i call 'Beautifully angry' looking. Id love to see someone run an avensis in the series next year, because it looks fantastic.

as for the side view: Chevrolet Cruze anyone? :D

Looks a little too DTM-like for me so long as cars don't start get a million aero slots and doors cut away...

I certainly hope it doesnt go down that route, though the front end seems more aggresive than most current S2000 cars (Id argue the Chevy Cruze as the exception)

It certainly looks beefy. I'm not sure about all those slits in the bonnet but I do like the overall look of the Avensis. I hope they do more than use it in the practice at Brands Hatch.

They want to cut costs and but then allow daft aero mods to appease Team Dynamics and the Max Power brigade?

Do you like aerodynamics on touring cars?

I don't see what the problem is and why you think a) it is to appease some sort of 'Max Power brigade' and b) why any aerodynamics rules are going to necessarily increase costs.

I would rather see a car like this race than a completely unwinged car. A racing car should look like a racing car.

To get decent aero you need to spend a lot of time (and money) on development. If the car had to remain stock on the outside then people wouldn't waste the time and money on trying to improve aerodynamic grip :)

AndySpeed

It depends on the aero regulations. If you are fitting a fairly standard rear wing and not allowing much scope for development there then that's not increasing costs.

Admittedly the front splitter is a bit more advanced, but if the regulations are tight enough there shouldn't be too much scope for ridiculous development and therefore spiralling costs of front aero.

Hopefully not because I felt the Super Tourers strayed too far from the production car...the Mondeo just looked weird side on. A front splitter is fine, it's when you start getting crafted sills/skirts, aero over back arhces and F1 style rear spoliers it gets a bit silly.

I wouldn't want it to be DTM/Super GT craziness but V8SC's aero regs is well balanced and that's how it should be in BTCC as I prefer early 90s/S2000 cars though admittedly it did take me a few years to warm to the S2000 cars.

well, seeing that thing from a photo...the front end is fantastic, but the rear end is a bit plain. however, this can probably be put down to the actual cars rather than the NGTC regs. it's still a proper good looking touring car though.

Quite aggressive from the front but not too OTT like a DTM car.

First impressions - very impressive. To have built a car from scratch in 12 weeks and with one test then have it lapping within half a second of the best BTCC machinery already bodes well for NGTC specs.

Credit to GPR Motorsport and Thommo.

Would prefer it to be a British make

This may scare you but there is only one British make in existence which currently make four door sedans and it's Manganese Bronze Holdings Plc which owns LTI (London Taxis International).
Every other "British" manufacturer makes either two door cars or is partly or fully owned by foreign interests. Mind you, an NGTC TX4 would pretty impressive. :D

Since wedge, AndySpeed and Mr Yeo have all commented on the aero and in relation to the V8 Supercars, the V8 Supercars have a control splitter from the front bumper downwards and a control rear wing but with different mount points. Ford adopted Holden's front splitter in 2001.

If the NGTC was to head down that route, then the front splitter, skirts and rear wing would also all be control parts subject to different mounting requirements between the cars and adjusted for parity before a new car was admitted.

They're not adopting the regs until 2012 from what I could make out with Google Translate, but who knows?

They've always been a year a year or two behind in order to allow the former BTCC works cars to be made available to privateers or the Swedish arms of the BTCC works teams.
