How much can the engineers adjust the engine power if they need a little extra for the last day or stages ?

Can they do this remotely, or do they need to plug in to the car physically ?

The have to plug into the car , but there are limits to how much you can turn up , normally thy just tweek the ignition for more driveability or throttle response and play with the throttle for the same throttle response as well.
