This is going to be a challenge. I've practically never driven the Audi before and Silverstone was always a track I found difficult to get to grips with. 10 laps in the storm should be great fun

I've found the Audi and easier drive than the Volvo, Paddy....

Had a satisfactory run around S'stone in the Renault using the Jon Brown setup (no downforce, stiff suspension). Curious what it will do with an ultra soft suspension....

Query: You can go faster in Time Trial Mode than in Single Race Mode. True or false?

I go faster in time trial than in qualifying because on the first lap as you take control of the car from the computer there is a little gap in throttle responce. This drops a bit of momentum, so you will always start the second flying lap faster.

Copse is flat on a fast lap. You have got be very tentative with the steering and be ready to correct any oversteer.

You stay flat through Maggots but then jump on the brakes for Becketts. I prefer to brake earlier and then get the power on through the corner.

I also brake early for Abbey Hairpin. You will ruin your lap if you try to take Abbey too fast and get oversteer on the exit.

Take Bridge flat and then dab the brakes for Priory. You always get a bit of oversteer as you go over the crest here. Take a late turn-in point for Brooklands to get a fast exit and take Luffield flat.

Actually I was arguing you can do a faster lap in Time Trial than in Single Race mode.

What do you think, JB?

What, that the AI makes the game run slower in Single Race? I'm always slower is single race mode but I thought it was because I am more conservative in a race.

It was a phenomenon I thought I observed back in the 2005 TOCA championship on the forum.

I never could meet my Time Trial lap times in Single Race Mode.

Really wish we coudl still access those threads. Alas, the archives are gone....

I find the cars feel better in qualifying, opposed to the race. I always drove smoother in qualifying. But I'm not sure if that was just psychological.

I've completed my races. Here's the report:

Race 1 - Got 3rd on the grid in Quali after I messed up a little on the exit of the Abbey hairpin. Had a half spin at Priory on the first lap and dealt with traffic on the 2nd. Laps 3-5 were consistent and decent with no traffic to deal with. Really happy with this race, particularly my fast lap.

Race 2 - The heavy rain made a huge difference to the traction of the car, especially through fast corners. Starting from the back wasn't too bad because I always found copse a hairy corner to negotiate when on pole. I had the lead by the end of lap 1, and decided (taking from my race 1 experience), to take copse flat. It didn't work out and I got mountains of oversteer but managed to get the nose in the correct direction without losing positions. However, in my anxiety to get back on the pace, I went wide just before Becketts and lost a good chunk of time (and dropped to 4th). So from then on, I changed my approach. I got the lead back within a few corners and proceeded to just get around the track. It was too slippy. Copse was taken at 120mph now, the Abbey hairpin in a medium revving 3rd gear and Priory in a low revving 5th gear if I had the courage. By the middle of the race, the consistency I was hoping for was badly diminished by traffic. I was only able to bang in times within a second or two of my fastest (which could have been better). On lap 9, I got more space on the track so attempted another fast lap. I was taking Copse at 125mph for the previous few laps so decided to step it up a gear but I got more oversteer and hit the inside barriers. Then, in a deja vu moment, I went wide at Becketts again and this put me 15 seconds down on my fastest by the time I got to Bridge! For the final lap, I said I'd just take it home. I was keeping up a great pace and on course for a PB during this race, but more idiotic traffic on the backstraight before Abbey put paid to that. Nonetheless, a decent showing considering the atrocious conditions.

My race one was almost heart-attack free. I had a couple off opposite lock moments.
Race 2 was a disaster, I spun like 6 or 7 times and ran wide multiple times, I think my fastest lap was my first lap. Back markers kept getting in the way aswell.

All in all, Im looking forward to the next round

well my first race was going alright until i spun on the last lap, demoting me to last.

the second race was chaos. lots of shoving and punting, 5th place

Jon B has requested a small extension..

tannat

May have to cancel results from Race 2.

I think some people raced in "rain" and some in "storm"

This is my fault, and I apologize...

tannat can i suggest cancelling race 2 and just have 3 races at another round?

MrMetro

why don't we use one of the bonus tracks the game has to offer, the scottish lake track is a good laugh...

tannat
12th July 2010, 17:11
Later in the season I'll think of a substitute round using the same assigned cars. Perhaps using an alternative track.

The lake one is a laugh, but horribly long.... :D

Round two of the TOCA 2 championship was greeted by sunny skies and intense competition. A fine drive in the Volvo netted Jon Brown his third straight pole of the season, but just barely as Tannat trailed by just over two tenths of a second in the Renault. Winner of race 1 at Thruxton, #1JTfan lined up third in the Honda, closely followed by the Audi of Paddy 52 and the Peugeot of IronRooster.

The race was a different story with #1JTFan taking the win with a fast lap of 1:10.95. Trailing by nearly ten seconds was Tannat in the Renault who was being hounded across the line by Jon Brown, just over a second behind in the Volvo. Paddy 52 followed closely in the Audi with IronRooster taking fifth in the Peugeot.

Race 2 was cancelled due to torrential rain :D

The next round will be at Brands Hatch, July 19-25. See you there!

It's not an easy track, IR.

Get either of the tight turns of the back straight wrong and you lose gobs of time.

Addtionally you were saddled with probably the slowest car for this round.

If you want tips on how to improve we are here to help

Cheers,

Tannat

thats decent of you tannat, but don't worry, silverstone is a track i'm not strong at, even with lots of pratice I'm never fully confident going round it, but now my stint with the peugeot, is over, I can hopefully fight back

I am quite dissapointed to finish 3rd after claiming pole. I had quite a scruffy race which including a half-spin on lap 4.

I couldn't hold together 5 solid laps, either.

Good to see some tight times for qualifying...

Im really chuffed. I didnt go flat out round copse because I didnt feel confident every lap so I eased of and power on at the apex. I couldnt have gone any better in the honda

I thought I'd be further up the placings but I guess that accident really hurt my times. Hey, tannat, even though there has been a mistake with peoples' weather choices, can you post the results unofficially just for interest?
