Thanks to mostly excellent reliability the standings look quite close to real pecking order, but maybe we could get some quite weird rankings if we applied the system to F1 seasons some 25 years ago?
Ask and ye shall recieve......it only took me a few days to score the entire season, so here it is, the 1985 World Championship-NASCAR Style
First for comparison, the real standings can be found here:
http://racing-reference.info/yeardet/1985/F
Now for the standings with Nascar points:
Format is Pos, Name, Points, Wins:

06 S Johansson......2226.........0
07 T Boutsen .......2212.........0
08 N Mansell........2190.........2
09 N Piquet.........2050.........1
10 G Berger.........2013.........0

24 S Bellhof........1197.........0
25 M Winklehock.....0897.........0
26 H Rothengatter...0871.........0
27 J Palmer.........0782.........0
28 P Streiff........0709.........0
29 A Jones..........0394.........0
30 F Hesnault.......0373.........0
31 M Baldi..........0300.........0
32 I Capelli........0272.........0
33 C Danner.........0218.........0
34 K Acheson........0206.........0
35 R Arnoux.........0160.........0
36 J Watson.........0146.........0
As you can see, Prost won the championship both ways. What I did find interesting was that the penalty for bad races was enough that Senna was beaten by his lesser known teammate, de Angeles. Senna had quite a number of DNF's that year, plus the fact that a lot of teams sat out the Grand Prix of South Africa to protest Apartheid.
