View Full Version : World Cup strikers question

Am I right in thinking a UK media cover-up is in force here?

I'm told the football stadium staff at the various venues for the World Cup are on strike (talk about timing ;) :) ) because they are all paid differing sums by FIFA? So far they've striked (legally by the sound of it) and been fired upon by police (live ammunition or tear gas? I don't know) and yet I've heard nothing about it until some gossip with a journalist this morning. He doesn't report on sport, so just heard it in passing, it's not a specific 'journalist' story.

Anyway, is it true and how come the UK news hasn't mentioned it at all? Or have they and I've missed it completely?

Strikes me we only hear the good stuff about some events, never the whole truth. It took our media months to mention the human rights issues for the past Olympics, and then it was pretty reluctantly shown by the TV channels not showing the Games :(

Anyhow, African problems - true or not?

A search on google news for "World Cup Strike" brings up many stories. Including one from the BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/10324005.stm

I read about some of the strikes in the metro the other day... can't say I've heard much about them elsewhere though.
