What brought about the decision not to use the Finland stages?
Bruce D
7th June 2010, 14:50
Decided they were really what I was looking for in this event and the added Oz stages didn't have much else exposure in the championship. Plus it makes it just that little bit tougher on the final leg...

Did the first 2 legs last night. Interesting rally so far:
SS1 - well originally I did this as the default tar/gravel by mistake but then realised my error and did it again on gravel. It's a nice stage on gravel with some tricky bits but you just use your head and you get through ok.
SS2 - Normally people write lots of things about how terrible their run through this stage was but this time my was brilliant. Well, it didn't start so great. About 2km in I heard the call for the Left 3 into Right 3 (3's are mediums in normal RBR notes) but couldn't make out the turn until it was way too late to brake, anyway I changed down quickly and chucked the car in but still went in in 4th gear - I slide wide on the left part but the outside bank neatly bounched the car around and I made it through the right part without even lifting! About 1km down the road from that on the switchback section I went into a corner a bit too wide and slide into the bank which caused me to roll slowly but it landed straight onto it's wheels and away I went. The last half of the stage was brilliant though as the setup of the car really worked and I was just throwing the car into the corners and really having a fun time. I was sorry when the stage ended.
SS3 - Bisanne turned out to be much tricker than I thought it would. I realised almost straight away that the notes were as good as useless on this one, calling way faster than it was possible to go through the corners. So I drove on sight and memory of the stage and still went fine.
SS4 - The Japan stage was tricky and I did have a spin but otherwise it was a good run.
SS5 - Greenhills II turned out to be more slippery than I remembered it but I settled down and did alright. Had a big scare though when I went wide into a right corner and had to dive left to miss hitting a big tree straight on. Bounced over a few banks and got back going again.
SS6 - The French stage went very well, clean and fast - I think I did a good time through there.

Bruce D
11th June 2010, 06:53
Yeah, its there. Must be lost in space somewhere. Not a worry.
Did my final leg last night, and it was almost a complete disaster. Mineshaft II was terrible, had to call for help 3 times, twice cos of mistakes and once because a left junction call came impossibly too late and I slide off the bank on the side of the road. NewBobs went well and clean but some very close calls, rolled in Greenhills and had to call for help and the final stage was clean so overall not bad, but my Mineshaft II time was over a minute slower than I managed in the thick fog on the Sasol.
I'll be away for the weekend so I was thinking of doing all the rally without any breaks later today...Though your reports have quite scared me Bruce! :D

Sent my times already....
It was a fun event for me, I really like the Australian stages, very fast although technical on some places.
I didn't have any major drama, but got some big scares in New Bobs and Mineshaft II because I was pushing very hard, perhaps too hard and luck saved me. Some bumps could have made my rally but fortunately I managed not to crash.
Looking foward to the results.
My times are In! This rally had Its ups and downs... Very happy with my performance In some stages;because of this heavy Itinerary, made more mistakes compared to other rallies. The French and Japanese stages were In the spirit of the event. My eyes are on Macd for this one!
Posting some photos Monday morning! Good luck to those still racing!

Just finished my rally. It was little more eventful than I would likes and this is how it went.
I planned driving carefully on the first stage of the day one but still managed to had a spin. Also there were spectators standing in very dangerous places forcing me to drive very slowly occasionaly. I really likes the second stage - fast and flowy. On Bisanne II I tried to get into a rhytm but couldn't. Bad notes didn't helped either but luckily they were consistenly 2-3 gear higher so could adjust my driving to that. I had a slight moment on the downhill when I tried to brake too late and I had to get the car 90' to the road to avoid crashing.
Second day started ok'sh when I tried to stay on the road and go as fast as I could. On Greenhill II I had surprisingly low level of grip and I had a slight off when I got understeer when exiting a corner. Lost maybe 5 seconds because of it. SS6 went without incidents.
On the last day I also had few moments. Mineshaft II I drove as fast as I dared but I was more focused keeping the car on the road. SS8 went well until I had a spin in one of the K left near the end of the stage. I cut the corner too much and the car spun off the road and I had to reverse to get going again. On Greenhill I also had a half spin when I went to gas too early. I possibly lost about 10 seconds on SS8 and SS9 combined. The last stage of the rally went ok.
I thoroughly enjoyed this rally but result wise I don't know if I was fast enough to compete for the win because the mistakes I made. I'll upload highlights of my rally little later.

Sent the times to Bruce some minutes ago. Overall it was an okay rally for me, and apart from hitting a barrel in Pribram R (luckily no damage), and one or two spins in latter stages, it was pretty straightforward. To avoid any accidents, I drove cautiously, but still tried to go fast.
The first half of East-West was the best I have ever driven on that stage, but the second half was completely out of order, lost me at least 10+ seconds. Mineshaft II went okay, and so did NewBobs. I'll post the videos a bit later. Much like Neverknow, I also had surprisingly little grip at Greenhills, very weird. The car was sliding everywhere.

Well, so I looked at the saved replays of my runs, and East-West was embarrassingly bad. I drove okay in the first half, but the second half was a disaster! Bumping everywhere, sliding around. I'm sure I'm at least a minute slower on that stage. I'd rather crash than drive that bad. :D
I guess New Bobs looked alright, but I'm pretty slow in the latter half as it's a new stage for me. Never went past the halfway point during practice, always kept crashing, but kept it together for the final run. Still pretty slow. I have to improve a LOT before I even think about winning a rally soon. Below is the video of my run at New Bobs:

Just waiting for times from Paddy and Paul now.
Very interesting rally - one championship contender was out of the fight from stage 1, there was a big scrap for the lead and there are clearly no team orders in a specific team! Oh, and by the end of days 1 and 2 a certain VW Polo S2000 car was seriously embarrasing a whole pile of WRC cars. It's a pity I stuffed the last day, otherwise a top 5 finish was genuinely on the cards!

Very interesting indeed! Can't wait for the results. I like the S2000 cars so far more than the WRC cars. Not because they're easier to handle, but they're more fun to drive. For example, I might have gone faster with the WRC car on Mineshaft II, but with the S2000 car it was more enjoyable.
BTW, I am curious, if people have looked at my driving, I want some opinions on how is it, let's say compared to the pros? Maybe I can learn what I need to do better in order to go faster. Because seriously, you have no idea how embarrassingly bad East-West was. :D
...you have no idea how embarrassingly bad East-West was. :D
Not more embarassing than my Cote D'Arbroz run-Struggled to finish, without breaks and only with 5th gear... :(

...How did you get the bumper cam? I've been trying to get that for a long time, my favorite driving view.
You can get this view by editing cars *.ini file but be sure to make copys of the file because RSRBR has a habit of reseting ini files for the cars, this makes very tiresome if you want to make video just like I posted before or if you want to make a pictures of the car with extralights. I usually edit [Cam_internal] part but it takes trial and error to get it right. Heres (http://www.bhmotorsports.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=26549)a little tutorial for it.

Sent off my times. I haven't memorised a rally report because I spent the whole rally being badly distracted by my four nuisance brothers
Driving the 205 GTI on the limit was a challenge enough. The car has no power out of hairpins or up hills. God only knows what inspired me to select it! Anyway, I kind of enjoyed the run. It was certainly different to the challenge of a WRC car: a lot easier in many respects, but harder to drive on the limit when you want to shave a few seconds off your time.

Paddy, you and ctbr both did the original route not the corrected one (particularly surprised by you doing this as you were the first one to query it). I will be crediting the 2 of the with the slowest times on the ones you missed due to the fact that you guys did the stages, just not the right route.
Guys, after Installing patch 4 some car classes vanished!!!
Should I Install complete pack v3, 9/5/2010 In order to get them back?
Also when try to run BTB stages 1+2, I get the message that my BTB files are old ( should I get all BTB stages packs for update3 to work? )
NeverKnow
17th June 2010, 08:38
Yeah, you need to install that complete car pack to get those car classes back and also get those four BTB stages packs if you want to try BTB stages with the newest updates. It isn't exactly the most bandwidth efficient way of doing things but it is the only way to get them working again.

Paul writes:
The rally ran fine in the end, but it was getting off the ground that I struggled with.
Before I could even post times, every time I loded a new stage to drive my machine would switch off, as in power off on the wall. This happened three times and I eventually resorted to the fact that I will DNS this rally.
I then went and watched the dismal SA vs Uruguay football match and thought after the game ‘let me give it another go’. Well I had no hassles after that and managed to run the rally okay.
I tried to run as fast as possible – full risk kind of driving at first, but as the night grew longer, my focus and concentration waned and I had to start driving a little more cautiously.
Most stages ran well, but it was at New Bobs I was most dissapointed, at the second split, I was 18sec ahead of my personal best and looking fine. I then had to call for help after a soft roll onto the roof! That hurt !
I found the raklly brilliant. More rallies like this should be run, with more of the standard game stages. Great stuff!

Well done to my team mate Francis on a great win. I was also pretty happy to win a stage on my home event. The pace was very quick, I was thinking I had done a good enough time in Greenhills but to be so far down was a surprise.
Looks like the battle in the last round to get 2nd in the teams event and utilising team orders :) to get Francis in 1st.
There's a bit riding on Francis winning as I have offered him a test drive in my rally car if he wins :)

Thanks Francis! Well I've already decided not to change to the WRC class next season, rather defend my title in S2000. I've got a feeling Tannat might concentrate on it next season and then it's going to be a real fight.

Damn, shame I made that mistake on stage selection. Still, I scored my first points of the season. I came into this series late, so I don't have many aspirations in terms of the championship. Equipe au Memphis is fairly settled in 4th position in the teams chase. So I guess I'll try and rack up another points finish in GB - I definitely won't reach 11th in the driver's championship, but 12th is still a possibility. Congratulation to the winners on this event and to Bruce for wrapping up the S2000 title.
