View Full Version : Tony Kanaan In Prelude To The Dream

DanicaFan
4th June 2010, 18:40
Tony Kanaan of Andretti Autosport in the IndyCar Series will be competing at Eldora Speedway this Wednesday, June 9th for the Prelude To The Dream. Dario Franchitti had an invitation but due to his testing at Watkins Glen International the same day for IndyCar, he will not be able to make it. Tony Kanaan will be also be testing at Watkins Glen but he will make the trip to Eldora Speedway and race.

This is awesome! I am going to this race again this year. Go Tony !!

I'm sort of surprised Danica was not asked to go. There were grumblings that Danica would be in the third Stewart/Haas car in 2011, which would make her an obvious choice for the invite once Dario turned it down, and it would had upped the ratings dramatically I would think.

I would love to see her at Eldora but that 3rd car at Stewart Haas will go to Kasey Kahne in 2011 for an easy transition to Hendrick Motorsports in 2012.

Danica doesn't like loose race cars. Anyone who has seen 5 seconds of a car at Eldora realizes that loose is an understatement. Being sideways for that long would either cure her of her fear, or drive her insane. I also just don't think she likes to get dirty...lol

Good luck Tony, I've never gotten a chance to ever watch the DTTD, basically cause its PPV, but I always miss the tapes also.

I'm sure TK is gonna have a blast

Good for Tony.

Ridiculous that it took this long for one of the Indy Car guys to actually sack up and run this event.

TK might be surprised how many folks are there in attendance.

I think the timing of it and sponsor conflicts have kept them away. I don't think it for a second was a case of Indycar guys not having the guts to run a dirt car. I bet given a chance, most of them couldn't get there fast enough....

TK oughta be a fun guy to watch and hear, and Kudo's to Tony for inviting him. The real reason not many IRL guys are there is that this is an invitation only deal. Talk to Tony Stewart about inviting more IRL guys....

When he keeps inviting the Indy 500 winner every year and they keep finding excuses not to show up, why should he bend over backward for them?

Plus with Indy Cars lack of popularity and awareness in this country, its probably lucky Stewart thought enough to invite any of them to come. Its not like the place needs more paying customers.

He invites them and they don't come, and that is fine. I do think the IRL should all but put a gun to their heads to make someone come. That said, I cannot see TK ever turning down a chance like that. Tagliani wouldn't either. Hell, Dixon turned them down but had a legitimate conflict. Helio? lol.....well c' mon Scott, fancy dancer isn't going to race a dirt car.....so I give you THAT point, but I suspect if you took a poll of the IRL garage, most of them would go.

What is more, you can bad mouth the IRL all you want, but you must be a masochist because you keep coming back to declare them dead, and they keep living...

Hey, you had a good night Saturday anyhow.

$25 bucks to watch this? I bet a ticket isn't that expensive. Bring back Thursday night thunder on ESPN! That was as fun as it gets but, alas, money talks and bs walks! Too bad too. I'd have loved to watch this. Watch out motorsports. You're pricing yourself out of the market!

Tony Kanaan, Rossburg, Ohio- June 2010.

Probably a hell of a lot fun, being with a bunch of real racers and 20,000 real race fans and away from the cluster-**** team he is with in Indy Car.

Dirt oval racing: The true history and heritage of American open wheel racing. :)

Wanna read something funny?

The real heritage of "open Wheel" racing in the US is not on the dirt. it isn't on an oval. It isn't even on a track.

The real heritage is on a street course.

The First American Automobile Race

At 8:55 a.m. on November 28, 1895, six "motocycles" left Chicago's Jackson Park for a 54 mile race to Evanston, Illinois and back through the snow. Number 5, piloted by inventor J. Frank Duryea, won the race in just over 10 hours at an average speed of about 7.3 miles per hour! The winner earned $2,000, the enthusiast who named the horseless vehicles "motocycles" won $500, and the Chicago Times-Herald, sponsor of the race, declared:

Persons who are inclined…to decry the development of the horseless carriage…will be forced…to recognize it as an admitted mechanical achievement, highly adapted to some of the most urgent needs of our civilization.

"The Future of the Motocycle", The Chicago Times-Herald, November 29, 1895.

If you would take the time to check into this, you will find that a large percentage of the PPV charge also goes to the charities who benefit from this show. Nobody involved in the PTTD gets paid - not the racers, not the crews, not the car owners, the announcers and production crew are all voluntary, etc. etc. It's for a great cause, and really, the racing doesn't get much better than the Prelude. Sorry you missed it.

Well they sure kept that spotlight under a barrel! I saw several ads for this on tv and not a single one mentioned that it was a charity event. Too bad. I think it might have made a BIG difference to folks contemplating spending the 25 bucks.

After listening to TK tonight in a interview on Trackside, he is still very pissed with Danica.

Also stated that one of these days that trailing car isn't going to back out of it like he did, and its going to be a big one.

I wonder where I have heard that before? ;)

It has always been for charity but this year they did the 4 team thing with the drivers for the first time but they also had an overall winner. This is my 2nd year going and its a blast. I recommend it. It's only $25 bucks and there isnt a bad seat in the house and its great racing.

I knew that the tickets for the event at the track were for charity, that much has always been obvious. But what we were talking about was the Pay-Per-View event on cable. It too was $25, but there was nary a mention of the proceeds going to charity. Otherwise, I might have tuned in... sigh.

Open wheeled street racing???Contrary to the belief that the only open wheel racing involves rear engine cars on asphalt, the "old fashioned American" kind is dirt ovals with sprint cars, modifieds, etc. There are still many local dirt tracks (a LOT more than paved). For a time, the dirt was replaced with board tracks, and eventually paved tracks. For for many, the "real" American open wheel is the small dirt oval. As stated on a T-Shirt at a local short track "It isn't real racing until you get dirt in your beer"

It was cool the Tony went and tried racing on dirt. At least he had the GUTS enough to do it compared to the rest of the Indycar drivers. I believe that Indycar needs to go back to the 1970 season championship to make them popular again with the country. The drivers would make a name for themselves with the American public and the following would increase. What a great season that would be with six dirt track races in the schedule. Indycar than would be looked at as a true American Open Wheel Racing series.

The first race in the US was open wheel on the street.

The first International Auto race in the US was also on the street.

You seem to have some fixation on the term "street race". For many years, the term "street racing" was applied to drag racing on the street, so I am not exactly sure what "nit" you are trying to pick.

Calling the dirt roads of the day "streets" is a bit of a stretch anyway. If anything, they should have been called dirt "road races". By 1903, "cars" were racing on a dirt ovals at Milwaukee. Most early racing history was built on dirt ovals - sometimes horse tracks and sometimes dedicated auto tracks.

Quite few of those Taxi Cab drivers grew up on dirt tracks, most in stockers but some in Midgets and Sprint Cars.
Sarah Fisher raced Sprint Cars on dirt. I do not think any other current Indy driver did except maybe Davy Hamilton.

Lighten up Francis. It was posted how he did.

Considering he has ZERO time racing on an Oval track in a type of car he has never sat in before he did O.K.

Now lets get Bowyer, Edwards or Stewart in a Rally Car and lets see how they do?
