Mainly on the instructions of my better half, we're avoiding the semi-finals and the online clips of the entries so as to not spoil the final. Half the fun is having a party where you can share the experience of laughing at the quality of the acts. It's like Britain's Got Talent without the constant urge to kill.

It's best watched on an old analouge TV with 3 1/2 channels at a very basic holiday resort. :p

The man with the toy guitar is a guitar hero!

Hoping to be camping next weekend, so some quality entertainment awaits in the campsite bar :)

Btw it's obvious that that Spanish guy in 2008 was taking the p***, isn't it?

Ok, we've got the first 10 semifinalists:
Bosnia & Herzegovina
Moldova
Russia
Greece
Portugal
Belarus
Serbia
Belgium
Albania
Iceland

The only good song is from Belgium and it will be great if he wins. No fireworks, no dancers, no fancy clothes, just a man with a guitare.

Glad that Moldova managed to go to the final despite the average song. Same with Greece. Generally I'm not a fan of " music for the belly " but the "voice of blood" is probably stronger.

A bit disappointed by the serbian song despite being a Goran Bregovic composition ( remember the guy with the wedding&funeral orchestra from the Belgrade edition? ), whose work I love.

Tomorrow night we'll have the second semifinal.

I think that either the German entry or the Azerbaijan entry will probably win it this year.

Also, does anyone else think that the Norwegian entry Didrik, sounds more Irish than the Irish lady with the unpronounceable name?

Now we have the other 10 finalists:

Georgia
Ukraine
Turkey
Israel
Ireland
Cyprus
Azerbaijan
Romania
Armenia
Denmark

Paula Seling & Ovi were " Playing with fire " ( and with my nerves  ) and managed to burn the competition.
The second semifinal was much better. I like Georgia ( good song, nice girl, great voice, good show ), Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Ireland, Armenia, Turkey and Cyprus.
I think these countries will get the most points in the final.
Eastern Europe rules! ( like always  )

Yay! What's the opposite of "ftw"? Everybody - even Belarus - roundly whooped our ass. And deservedly so: we had a dull song sung (and I use the word sung quite wrongly) by a tuneless dullard.

No idea what Norton's like; in the spirit of Sir Terry I was listening to Radio 2 again. Ken Bruce described the three hosts for the benefit of those without pictures: "Think of Cleo Laine, Dr Niles Crane and Cherie Blair and you've pretty much got the idea" :)

As much as I'm a fan of German schoolgirls, I wasn't that sure about the winning song. She sings English with a variety of, erm, interesting accents :s

That British entry was the worst one I've heard since.. well, last year. I was rooting for Turkey but apparently the German karaoke singer was more popular.

I think I underestimated Graham Norton too, he's just as cynical as Wogan so a thumbs up from me. Still can't stand his talk show though.

Ha! In the last years everybody blamed the geopolitical vote for the winner. This year it seems the winner was determined by the financial crise. Otherwise I can't understand why a plain girl with a modest song and a common voice could win. They say that the vote is made 50% by a jury of specialists. Now I can swallow the lie that common people around Europe could like the song and sent their votes but what about the jury? Anybody with a bit of musical knowledge would say that the song/voice didn't deserve to win.

Glad that my old theory was proved. A decent song has chances to get points despite the "friendly" voting system. You can see that Russia got in vain 12 points from its former satellites because the song was bad and that Romania got 12 points only once and 10 points four times but managed to end on the third place due to 1-7 points from most of the countries ( except some of the neighbours - boo ! ).

In my opinion it was one of the best editions. I liked most of the songs ( except for Germany, UK, Spain, Belarus and Russia :laugh :) and a few artists had really strong voices.

Paula Seling and Ovi got the third place which is more than I was expected. In fact I wasn't a fan of their song and I was surprised that UK gave it 8 points despite being hardly criticized in british papers. But I noticed that everytime we're playing with fire we end up on third place. Well done, they really worked hard.
