Things going fine smoothly with my laptop, then noticed was getting no audio at all.

Rebooted and got the following message:

windows/system32/config/system error

and something about loading the original operating CD?

If anyone has dealt with this problem before I'd love to hear of your experience.

I can't seem to get past the opening screen.

Cheers,

Tannat

Are you booting the game from the original disc, or just from the internal files which were installed onto your PC?

It might be a longshot but have you tried to taking out the battery and put it back in when the laptop is not plugged in.
Audio disapearing could also be symptoms for overheating. On best case scenario if the laptop cools down, it should work ok but if it is worst case scenario, then the chip is fried or audio drivers might not be properly installed.
Now the message about the system error appears usually when computer registry is corrupted. There are loads of articles about this problem on the interwebs. Heres one of the solutions (http://www.computergeeksonline.net/errors/windows-system32-config-system-error.asp) and heres the Microsoft one. (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307545) Also it might be a good idea to check BIOS screen if anything unusual is happening and the computer finds all the components.
Hope this helps.

This is just on restarting the computer, Paddy, but I have the original disc installed.
Thanks
