Most of the open cockpit LMPs are fugly anyway. Only the Peugeot and Aston look nice.

To each his own.

Real race cars and sports cars are open cockpit. The Peugeot looks ok but would look much better without a roof. The Aston is a 2 bagger.

Open cockpit + Shark's fin = Possibly the most gloriously, beautiful car ever made.

To help minimise the risk of blow-overs.

The shark fins stabilises the car under yaw.

Racecar Engineering magazine did research on this and found that the blow overs more likely to occur under yaw. The Peugeot that crashed at the Porsche Curves section being a good example.

Designed by eye, not wind tunnel....I wish we could be that lucky now...

I was originally hooked on racing by the 917 but I love the open tops also. Either one is fine with me as long as they are fast, sound sweet, and most of all there are enough of them to have a race.
