Lesson #1 Monte Carlo 1993

At the close of two legs it appeared as if Francois Delecour was going to give the Ford Escort RS a win on its maiden outing. However, a determined Didier Auriol in his Toyota Celica put in a legendary drive on the final day to snatch the win.

Lesson#2 Rally GB, 1998, 1999

In 1998 and 1999 this rally contained enough drama for an entire season! Wins for Burns in both years, dnfs for Makinen and McRae. 3rd and 4th for Seat and Skoda in 1999, Sainz’s breakdown just metres from the finish in 1998-need I say more!

Great idea. Looking forward to these "lessons". I'm going to assume 'reduced' damage? ;) And also, we are allowed to use the RSRBR10 mod?

Yes, please, reduced damage.

And RSRBR10 is fine.

If you guys have any issues with the rally format please let me know.

I'm not as familiar with the ins and outs of the various releases as LCD and Bruce...

For Chirdonhead, I cannot select "dusk" and "thick fog" at the same time. Does anyone else have this problem?

Thanks, Paddy!

For lesson 1, I will use a Toyota Celica. For lesson 2, I will use a Skoda Octavia. I tested out both categories yesterday. With the 93 cars, it was an easy call. The Celica handles best in my opinion. For the 99 cars, it was much of a muchness. All of the cars were enjoyable to drive and I have no reason for choosing the Skoda other than that I like the look of the car :D

Don't worry Tannat, people tend to leave entering until very late. You either have to bug them or publish an entry list and that kicks their asses into gear.

Did the first part of the rally last night - this should be called the Rally of 1000 Crashes! The first 2 stages went fine, no mistakes just kept it clean, then on the next one I slid off the road near the end. The visibility in Bisanne is next to nothing with the dusk and snow on. Still, I'm kicking myself about this mistake cos I heard the note, started to slow down but then somehow thought I'd try it a little quicker than I originally would have. Bad idea! Joux Plane and I do not have a good relationship and it claimed me 3 times again. Fortunately I have not taken a Super Rally (not even sure if we're allowed them on this event), but I have lost well over a minute in one stage alone so the chances of outright victory are pretty gone. Hoping for a clean run on the 2nd leg but that should be very difficult.

Went for the Impreza 95 in the first lesson and the Escort WRC in the 2nd. 2nd part wasn't great - seemed to be travelling from one accident to the next. Had some clean runs so I'm interested to see how I compare on those stages.

Quite funny, afterwards I had a run in the Audi S1 through Shepherds Shield in the dry and set a record time, then had a go in the S2000 Polo, which felt like being stuck in first gear in comparison!!! :p

Finished my rally just now. I chose Subaru for both lessons.
First part of the rally was mostly event free. Though I had two half-spins at Joux Verte in one of the millions of hairpins the stage had. It was also quite interesting to powerslide on tarmac doing 140kph. :D
I also had very poor visability on Bisanne. When the tarmac was clear it was very hard to make out the edges of the road. I wish there were a way to turn on the headlights for this stage. I drove very cautiosly on Bisanne and Joux Plane.
Second part of the rally was also without major incidents. I didn't had time to do recce runs, so it was first time I drove the stages in those conditions. The '99 Impreza was quite good to drive actually for so old car, though it could use better tires. I had to do only few setup tweaks to get it to behave like I wanted.
The only problem I had in this lesson, was lack of grip when I drove Chirdonhead in thick fog, car was sliding a lot and I didn't get a good response to steering inputs. Also like in the first lesson, I drove cautiosly in the dark.
Looking forward to see the results.

First of all, I have to admit that In RSRBR10 has been a huge Improvement over Monte Carlo mod physics
compared to the previous version! Now the grip differs from ice to snow or to wet and despite the sliding,
the car feels easier to control (as long as you don't floor the throttle!) :p :

About the rally:Lesson1 was kind of slow I'd say...was the only safe tactic so to finish without smashing my car or end up using a super rally!
Lesson 2, was my favourite!Everything there went great;have a feeling I drove quite fast without any serious mistakes!Needless to say I enjoyed
the British stages, much more than the French ones! :D

@Tannat: Very nice work over the weather formats! They Increased the difficulty leveL a lot, but gave a 'real time' feeling,
as I had the Impression weather kept changing all the time...

Overall, I liked that event a lot-Kept my heart beats high all the time..!!!

My times have been sent.

The Monte Carlo stages were very difficult. I struggled with massive understeer so was very cautious. I just couldn't feed 100% throttle most of the times for fear of over doing it and making a mistake. I had a couple of near misses but nothing too serious.

The British stages were slightly easier. Despite the bad conditions, I was able to drive comfortably enough on Falstone and Chirdonhead. The opener at Harwood Forest comprised many overshoots and silly mistakes however. And, the final test at Shepherd's Shield made my efforts an anti-climax. The stage was going quite nicely and I had settled into a rhythm. But I took a right hander too wide with 0.7km to go, hit a tree and mediocre speed and got stuck in second gear. The water temperature was also rising. Eventually, with 0.4kms left of the stage, the engine just died and I could not make it to the end of the stage. :(

An unfortunate end to what was a testing, but enjoyable, rally.

Apologies group.

I had some issues with configuring rally times with excel last night. Will give it another go this evening.

Timing may be only to xx.x (tenths) rather than xx.xx (hundredths)

I did get stage one complete-it was quite tight amongst the four who had submitted at that time.

It was a Subaru(s) vs Toyota battle (I had planned to drive the Lancia)...A tight battle through the first two stages, but things began to open up on Bisanne with Xecutioner taking a superrally and Bruce D having a troubled run. On the final stage Xecutioner met retirement, and the top four remained the same with NeverKnow trouncing LCD by 23 seconds, Paddy52 rounding the podium in the Toyota, and Bruce D taking 4th.

A different story for Lesson 2 as LCD jumped to almost a 5 second lead after stage one in his SEAT. Neverknow was close behind in his Subaru with the Ford and Skoda of Bruce D and Paddy further back. Neverknow won stage two and took back 2.5 seonds, but the reminder of the rally belonged to LCD winning by just over 14 seconds. NeverKnow came second with the Ford of Bruce D in third with Paddy not finishing the final stage.

Amazed at how close it was on Lesson 1, but lesson 2 wasn't comfortable for me so I'm not surprised in my result. Just like to see that in the right situation and keeping the car on the road I can compete with the front boys. Congrats to NeverKnow and LCD for their wins. Interesting that if you combine the results NeverKnow was only 9sec ahead.

Congrats to LCD for winning the second lesson! I wish I had these kind of lessons at driving school, it would have been more interesting. :D
I'm slightly surprised that I was the best in the first lessons because the Subie was nearly always travelling sideways. I thought I lost some times because of it.
I'm not surprised about the results for the second lesson though. I guess I took it too safe on those muddy stages.
The times are also quite close if people stay out of trouble. I expect similar performance on the next rally - nothing is given for granted and you'll really have to fight for the positions.

Nice results. I knew that it would be difficult to set the stages alight but I'm very happy with 3rd. Didn't really feel comfortable on either lesson given the weather conditions so hope to get good results in rallies with decent conditions.

Leeson1 wasn't that bad for me afterall! Thought I was too slow, but after results published, realised almost everyone was quite cautious...
Lesson2 was much better Indeed! Seems short and twisty stages are colser to my driving style! Very decent perfomances from all participated In this one;things would be more Interesting If there were some more entries though!
