IMO this also proves how big the difference is between the Xsara and C4 when looking what he has achieved with Xsara compared with the C4.
The Xsara was just an outdated car. But the C4 proved to be more reliable too.
Of course I hope Solberg to win, I expect him to lose something on the super special, but everythings open for tomorrow.

A lot of ifs and buts here, but Petter has proved himself for a long time allready... Loeb is the greatest.. Helped by a lot of things off course..
Would be really great if a underdog like Petter took it home tomorrow. Cause that is what he is!! A underdog!! ...

then its game over for him....his driving is ok for IRC but not for WRC.
Why have you suddenly turned against Ketomaa? Just because he has been slower this weekend than Mikkelsen?
Mikkelsen's not-so-great performance in this year's IRC was probably largely down to the tyres.
I think you're really underestimating the likes of Ketomaa-Mikkelsen-Hanninen. They have been setting some damn good times this year in cars which have less power, about 1/3rd torque and less sophistictated transmission than the WRCars.

You guys are creating too much fuss around Mikkelsen at this time. Yeah he own the Golden Stage rally in Cyprus but who was the competition?! Al-Attiyah and Bouffier, are you serious?! Those two are great drivers but they are not on a WRC level. C'mon Al-Attiyah lost to Armindo Araújo last year and both Meeke and Hanninen were not present because if they were there, I think things would have gone differently. Mikkelsen might have the talent but he is not there yet, all this fuss around him is, in my opinon, premature.
And Ketomaa is fast aswell, but I dont see how an manufacter would invest in him at this point. It would take him 1 or 2 years to adapt to WRC machine and to get to speed, and at his age teams might scratch their nose.

Chris Patterson having some difficulties reading all of Petter's information-filled notes today. In the day review in Finnish MTV3 MAX channel there was Petter's onboard and I immediatly thought that there's something going on because I could clearly hear and see notes lagging behind. Petter then yells to Chris "COME ON!!" and one corner after Petter nearly goes off because Chris is 1,5 corners behind on the notes. Petter then yells something like "where the f*ck are you going?!?" and Chris replies something like "I really don't know!"
Then on Four Ways Crychan stage Petter spins on that junction. Atleast to me, there's some very weird word mix-up/ reading misunderstanding for Chris and he stops the notes for just a fraction of a second but that seems to be enough because when he gets to "double tightens" Petter has already lost it. Maybe it wasn't the reason for the spin, but watching the onboard I got the feeling that something wasn't quite right.
Not blaming it on Chris though, IMHO Petter has waaaay too much stuff in his notes. Seriously, listen to them, they're insane. There's no person who could comprehend that amount of audio-based information while prosessing the amount of visual info what you get while driving...

True.. I seen Chris been very late quite often, calling the note as they are in the turn. He takes too long breaks/starts too late to read on the places with a lot of details. Petter does have a lot of stuff in the notes, but it's not impossible to read them though, Phil did without problem and with great rhythm. But it's strange why they haven't fixed this, as it's quite obvious this has been an issue for some time. Really Petter's responsibility to make them practice and improve this, but who knows if they tried or not..

Petter too cautious? Where did you get that from? He was 0,6 behind after fifth split. I think he pulled out all the stops, but possibly did a couple of small mistakes in the last part of the stage. Very easy to do that when you`re in a fight like this. But its not settled yet!

Pitty for Ketoomaa, but, as said before, he never managed to equal Mikkelsens's times yesterday and friday, so i guess he tried too hard on this opening stage of today. Looks like Pons will be the new champion, alltough he could never convince me, he is more like champion of regularity, the only wins he took was when there was not much competition.

Ketomaa:
I attacked today and i managed to low the cap by 7seconds until rolled and forced to retire.
It was game of everything and i had a chance to win this competition and championship. Today the taking of the risk was too much. I brake late in the corner and it was very slippery and car slipped off the road. I was only interested in to win championship, not the silver.

Ketomaa truly isn´t my favourite driver but a good driver and he is really better than some of the bashing I can see of him in here. He really done the only right thing and attacked for the title.
Also as said before the rally compared to Mikkelsen, Mikkelsen has a bit more experience for British conditions and yeah Mikkelsen truly isn´t a bad driver and didn´t had nothing to lose in here as its kinda just a single championship drive for him to show results. All the points for Mikkelsen to a great drive!
Also in Ketomaa´s case, before the season,it was even unsure will he take part. He missed Sweden and retired in Finland totally! Both events at the S-WRC what would have favoured him. Also example compared to Pons, Pons was able to do all events what favoured him and at events where he was unlucky, there wasn´t much competition so even by supeRally easy points were possible. Congratulations still for Pons to the title as I believe its quite sure now.
What comes to WRC, Loeb has just been better. Wished a win kinda for Petter as he is a privateer and a Citroen would have still won the last event but by times,Loeb has just been better.

It shows that you can be champion without being the best driver. Pons took couple of wins in the beginning of the season, but then the season progressed it was clear that Pons is not able to beat other SWRC drivers by driving and he took only some good points and it was enough. Everyone knows that he will never be anything but one lucky champion, but all the points counts so congratulations to him...
The season showed also that the level of the SWRC was not very high. Sandell was surprising good on tarmac, Ketomaa super-fast on gravel. Andersson was aiming the title, but his team was excluded from the season so one title contender was out og the game. The SWRC "visitors" Hänninen and Mikkelsen showed their skills.
Hopefully next year all the fast S2000 drivers would drive in the same series and then there would be no tourist drivers in the top of the points table...

I don't have a clue (where I will be next year) I do this personally competing and play the game and I have to keep the pressure on and stay in the championship and just winning this rally I have to look at the big picture and what happens with Ford and Citroen, it would have been nice, I would like to drive and have proper backing and have a chance against Loeb."

"Yes it is incredible feeling and been dreaming of it. Honestly i have been dreaming of this. It's not a victory but my target since the beginning of the season, being in the top three is great. Mikko has been fighting and it's been a fight against him.
I couldn't imaging winning this manage because I was a number two driver but the consistency was my target and for next year i will be happy to fight for the drivers title next year."

Fact of the matter is Mikkelsen had 3? years in a proper wrc car so in effect he's come down a level in order to be able to win. I'd be happy to stick my neck on the line and bet that Breen & Jaf will be the Pirelli Star Driver winners next year.

I think that it will be a walkover for Hanninen in 2011 unless the quality of the field improves. Really, it will probably be a bit of a step down for Juho but it will be good for him to refresh his memory of the WRC events before a possible Skoda/VW WRC drive in 2012.
Do not worry! There will be really tough competition in SWRC in 2011 ;-)
Just noticed that currently there is only one top driver who has never finished rally GB (once thanks to the superally).

Final standings of SWRC Teams:

3.Czech Ford National Team 120
Škoda won 5 out of 10 SWRC races (2x Sandell, 1x Hanninen, 1x P.G. Andersson, 1x Mikkelsen)

I'm alive and kicking ;)
A great rally, with an intense battle between Seb and Petter for 2 days. A bit of a anti-climax today seen with norwegian eyes, but again a very, very good result from Petter. A truly fantastic 3rd overall for a private team with perhaps 1/10th of the resources that Citroen factory drivers has. I vividly remember all the forumers calling Petter a has-been, too old, have lost it etc.
And with Mikkelsen wiping the floor with all the rest in Swrc, it was a pretty good weekend for us.
I also might end up on the podium in Pickems, then it will be even better :)

Had a great rally weekend - weather on Saturday was amazing for a November in Wales. Went to Halfway and Crychan on Saturday and Resolfen on Sunday. Very good atmosphere around the stages and service park. Petter and Loeb were noticeably quicker throughout - there was an audible gasp when they came past the huts at Dixies! Very good weekend topped off by a 2nd place for Petter and a win for Andreas.
Here are some lame attempts at photos from my new camera - unfortunately not set-up for motorsport photography!

Having finally recovered from 3 days in the Welsh wilderness, a few thoughts. Really enjoyed the event, the top boys are on another level, both WRC/S2000 - noticeably quicker than the others, the commitment is awesome. If anybody has never been to a WRC event, then go, it will blow you away. You can keep your F1........Also got a flying display on Friday in Hafren from the RAF on training exercises.....
Wasn't easy keeping track of who was leading, 87.7RallyFM was quite good, but it was a bit hit and miss, they really need to sort the transmitter out.
And that leads me to my final point - media coverage!!! Where was it? Virtually nothing in the papers, nothing on national radio. This is our round of the WRC. Is everybody in the sport doing enough to promote it? Pay, invite, whatever, members of the press to come to the event - they won't turn up on their own back. Where are the future fans of the sport coming from if there is no coverage?
It's sad, and it's happened so quickly - it's not just the lack of a top-line British driver - there's a whole host of reasons. However, I expect to hear it was a roaring success, maybe in £££££, but was it really?

Calm it P, armchair statisticians will always miss the prima facie evidence. I saw him last year in Catalonia wringing the neck of the Fiesta R2 and thought he'd be one to watch. At his age to be winning Nationals is credit worthy, to finish 12th on a WRC given his lack of forest miles is brilliant. If people are going to sneer at family assistance they should look at Mikkelsen who, I understand, has exhausted his pot of gold but has delivered just in time. Andreas is 2-3 years further down the road than Craig so the time to judge will be 2011 at the end of the J-WRC. I got blasted by the Arctic contingent on here when I said CB would be competition for Ketomaa - well 2nd behind Mikkkelson says it all in my book. You don't get to be a champ by going balls-out without understanding the strategy required for a series. In head to head events Pons has as good a record as Ketomaa, maybe the Finn should have realised he needed to be competing with Pons on all 7 nominated events. Pons 7 scores out of 7 events, Ketomaa 5 scores out of 7 events = Pons fast enough, Ketomaa too fast. Congrats Xevi, you're in the records now.
In addition to CB, Ott Tanak will be a contender in whatever class he gets into. Karl Kruda looks to be improving too. Estonia - the new Finland?

Pitty for Ketoomaa, but, as said before, he never managed to equal Mikkelsens's times yesterday and friday
Ketomaa actually took 20 seconds away from Mikkelsen's lead before his off. (and during saturday he was faster than Mikkelsen). After Ketomaa got his things together he was blindingly fast as he usually is. Mikkelsen said that his pace was crazy as he was defending against Ketomaa.
Mikkelsen is very good driver with lots of experience from British conditions and after rally Scotland he seemingly started got his acts together with Skoda and those conditions while Ketomaa was bit rusty in early race.
-------------
It would have been nice if Petter had win Wales or Japan (especially Japan was unfortunate as he lost probable win due to technical issue). However it was extremely nice to see Petter driving same pace with Loeb and Ogier in last three events. Can someone copy comments from last rally of Great Britain where NOT is insulting Petter as being helplessly too slow for new stars like Hirvonen and Sordo? ;-)

And that was - of course - because Block smashed his car prior to the event. M-Sport had to prepare also Henning's car from what was left of it after Turan's Catalunya accident. Well, they've got used to hammering, just to mention that JML's GB car was the same he used to win in Finland and the very same he rolled down the mountain in Portugal 2009.

MartijnS, as I scrolled down I thought your pic of Sordo was the best I had seen yet from this event, then you topped it with the one of Sandell, great work, and thanks for sharing them
Agreed! top, top camera work!

We got back from Wales yesterday, great event. Found some good spots by walking into the stages instead of staying at the spectator areas. You've got to do something to compensate the lack of a press accreditation ;)
My photos are online!

great video! Ogier looks fast as hell in minute 1.01!!!
This rally is the end of an era, it was a great event with a great fight, nice to end like that.
Also, personally I would like to thank and congratulate Mads Ostberg and Adapta for competing and finishing the rally with an Impreza WRC. Subaru was a big part of the wrc car era, and running in wales was a great way to say goodbye. FT56 SRT will go in the books as the last Subaru Impreza WRC to compete in a WRC event, thanks for the memories.

BIG HOWIES RALIO INTERVIEW WITH PETTER AFTER THE EVENT?
Any thoughts on Petters Comments to Big Howie at the finish of Margham 2 ? Was he intimating that he hd been `instructed` not to push on the last day, ensuring a new DS3 next year??? Or am I just a sad old Rallying synic?

You might be a sad old Rallying synic, but you are not alone, hehe.
Also thought it was a bit strange what and how Petter answered! But what would be the point? If Petter had won, citroen would've had top 2 drivers in championship. Also if Petter isnt allowed to win now, he will never be allowed to win...

Was Quensel atually quoted as saying that, or was it just reported that way? Still doesnt answer the question why Petter said what he said???? Not trying to float conspiricy theories around. Just thought it was an interesting comment, which possibly he needn`t have said.

Q: some people say you backed off to secure a ds3 for next year.
PS: I backed off all day.
but just before he was saying that he was pushing very hard and how glad he is to be 3rd overall in championship.
on s4c co uk check last day report at 20:50, probably only for uk users.
and also I now remember PS being a little puzzled where he lost 2.8s to Loeb in Margam Park 1. See comments after stage finish on onboard footage. So he was pushing.
Having 2nd thoughts on this, I think he was just fed up with conspiracy theories and being asked whether he is allowed to win etc...

I haven't seen or heard the actual quote by Quesnel, but I don't find it too surprising. It would create a massive PR exposure compared to Loeb taking his xxx win, both for Citroen and WRC in general.
On Petter's interview after Margam; not sure which comment you find strange, but to me they make perfect sense. Since nothing contracted for 2011 he couldn't afford, in respect to sponsors, to go off and lose the 3rd place championship. I think there were some "team" orders in the early season, before the championships were settled, but after that I'm quite sure he 's been free to do what he want.
