Thank F-duct for that...

Yes, I F-ducted it right up.

I wish the F-Duct would F-Duct off along with those F-Duct shark fins on the engine covers!

Well when you compare how good the 2005 cars looked, for example the 2005 McLaren vs the 2010 McLaren, you have to wonder is the sport going in the right direction. I mean for a start as you say Dan, the shark fin covers, also the length of the 2010 McLaren just looks wrong, the cars dont look amazing like they did before. I mean this is F1, we should be looking at those cars thinking they look unreal.

ooh i disagree about the length. The cars are longer due to the larger fuel tanks needed and thus bigger wheelbases, and i think the cars now look sleeker and less 'stubby' like the cars of the late 80s/early 90s. I now look at the engine covers of pre 2009 cars are see how short and stubby they look. if the rear wings were wider, no shark fins and the front wings narrower, I think the cars would look even better.

then again, I have a dream of what F1 cars should look and be like, because I'm a shallow person! :D

Oh ya I know why they are longer, I just dont like the new length but I agree with you that larger rear wings would make the car look better.

McLaren will be fine, apparently theirs is actually called the J-switch anyway ;)

do you reckon they clean it with a J-cloth?

and Jake, I know you know why the cars are longer, why wouldn't you, but it sorta went along with my point :)

Sensible, it was always going to lead to more extreme methods, and having the driver shifting around at high speeds is far from safe.

I think car length is a problem. The cars are longer this year and there's been more contact because of it. Give me short stubby F1 cars that can battle closer in the corners, perhaps serving up some 'over-under' moves. Still trying to discern how the F-Duct wasn't ruled as a 'moveable aerodynamic device'...?

Jean Jean Jean!

This is the teams calling the F-duct stupid. It doesn't make sense... and it takes a drivers hand off the wheel.

Jean should have had the balls to ban it at the start of the year when they were looking at it. Simply advise that after looking into it it would not be appropriate for use for the rest of the season. Existing points still stand.

Instead we're all going to go developing a lollipop hole in the cockpit and tunnel through the car just for this year, again, because Jean didn't have the balls to do what EVERYONE knew needed to be done.

Now, next year, the teams are going to just agree not to use it.

Sigh...... Ari Vatanen where are you?

That is one of the flimsiest excuses for an increase in contact (what increase in contact?) that I've ever seen.

The only moveable part of the F-duct is the driver, so you cant rule against it on that basis (it works by changing air pressures in the engine cover).

Just sayin' last year the cars were shorter and the front wings didn't get deranged as often as people expected. I've seen alot of front wings with bits broken off them this year.

What kind of vehicles slice n dice better; shifter karts or tour busses? Shorter cars lend themselves to better racing.

There are no moving parts in an F-Duct. They're called that because they're a pipe which, in simplest form (obviously, they curve more in practice), in the shape of an F, with the inlet in the "base" and outlets in the "horizontals". When the driver blocks the "middle" outlet, the air goes faster through the remaining outlet.

Try it yourself with straws or somesuch. The principle is very simple.

it seems to me this along withe little winglt with a motor, are nothing more than movable areo devices and should have been banned on that basis already
