Somewhere John Wes Townley is snickeringTires go down. JWT would have killed the car & they'd be rolling it back to the hauler....most likely why Roush let him go.

I've only been to Darlington once. I remember I hated re-starts because of all the sand that got thrown up those first couple of laps. After they ran a while, it was alright, but re-starts were brutal on the eyes.

most definitely....thats why the long drive back to new bern, sleep 3 hours and drive back, then the long drive home afterwards.....i drove more miles that weekend than Jeff Gordon who won the race

And we always did Chicago without getting hotels but they made it worse by making them night races. I'd have to take vacation time from work as well with the Friday night race.
With Michigan, we make it a nice long weekend by taking a half day on Friday and a full day on Monday but I've done it a ton of times with only taking vacation on Monday and a three night hotel stay.

Hey I drove down from Chicago to Atlanta for the Petit Le Mans race, only to have the flooding happened the week before hand, then there was a massive storm the day of the race, sitting at the track for about 6 hours hoping they wouldve restarted but they didn't pissed me off. but it still was a badass weekend, until I had a 16 hour drive back to chicago the next day.
but I think the hotels are also a reason tickets are down, for them to jack the prices for those race weekends will drive away folks, I paid over 400 bucks for 4 days and the ticket was only 85 for all 4 days, so yeah hotels bite

amen brother....
Gibbs 1-2 that was pretty cool. Fight till the last lap. Really stunk about Kenseth and Biffel and that other guy I can't spell or pronounce. But i guess it is Darlington and thats what happens there.Kenseth had a bad attitude about getting back in. It sounded to me like he didn't want to try and fix it.I heard it was pretty major but to me he was too quick to pack it in.I could be wrong though. Not trashing the guy or nothing.

This is absolutely nothing new. Hotels have done this for eons whenever there's a special event, not just racing, in their area. It's a real shame they do it, because those costs are now a major factor in race attendance in the current economy, but it's all about the economy for them too.

my aunt and uncle actually live down about an hour from Road Atlanta, we were gonna stay at their house that weekend, but they were part of the flooding and there roads were all blocked off, I didn't have a tent or anything cause I was thinking of staying at the track lol that wouldve saved 350 bucks
