Great start by Mikkelsen. Very excited by his pace - hopefully he can keep it up tomorrow and challenge for the win. Meeke should have a charge tomorrow - he lost very little time despite sweeping. He could make up 12s in 3 or 4 stages.

True, but at least here the leader will not be penalised. All Meeke had to do was from 5th to 6th rather than deliberately losing the lead as in WRC.

Should be set up for a good fight on day 2. Kris is in the perefect position but Juho is in a good position too. I expect those 2 to pull away, Magalhaes to consolodate 3rd place and Kopecky/Mikkelsen to fight for 4th. Sousa will drop back.

Tactics are now a part of the sport. Same as in Tour de France and in football. Rules have to be made to prevent those tactics, but until they are in place then why not use them? If I was in Meeke's shoes, I would use tactics. At the top level of this sport, it is all about money and winning. That is all. Results.

You sure have a point, but if you can keep rally's tactics free then why not avoid them?! If all top drivers used some kind of tactic then I wouldn't be here complaining, but seeing it was only Meeke, it kinda does make him look bad.

Magelhaes has already 7 results, so his next will cost him his worst result, 2 points in Monte Carlo. So a win will bring him to 38. Hanninen and Kopecky both have 6 results. Meeke has only had 3 point finishes.

Rough Google translation:
Michal Hrabánek , Team Skoda Motorsport ' It turned out that competition is always evaluated only at the end. It was unlucky for us to end the rally , which for us until the last moment developed favorably . However, we must look to the future . The next rally , which is present in both crews, the Madeira Rally first weekend in August . There they try to regain lost points here for the manufacturers and riders . But that will be extremely difficult, because it will be our first start in this competition . "

This was one of the best rallyes i have ever seen. Those guys were always flat out.

And you can not imagine the thoughts that were running through my mind when I saw Hanninen and Bruno together on ss18. For a moment I thought it was a wtcc race or something like that...

Six seconds could seem enough with only one stage to go. But we, who live in the azores and know about Tronqueira historic background, knew that it wasn't over yet. Tronqueira Stage adds its drama to the rally year after year. In past years, a good deal of drivers lost the rally on Tronqueira even with some huge gaps over their oponents.

Lots of photo abuns from azores and other portuguese rallyes: http://jalbum.net/users/motoresmagazine/

One must not forget that Bruno was 3,2 seconds (out of the 6,4) up on Kopecky by roughly mid-stage. It isn´t a foregone conclusion that Kopecky would have won even without the accident.

I agree. Bruno and the Fiats are also both potential winners next time out and now with three tarmac events in a row Kopecky will be in his element. Hanninen is now pretty good on asphalt too so might be able to hold on at the top of the standings. Can't call it!
