So whats the score with them, not too fussed just wondering if we are able to have them or not as it said something about it in the choose your flag bit of the user cp.

I would prefer Signiture images be allowed, but limited size + no .gifs (which i'm sure you can do on VB3)

No reason not to have them now. I post on a tech related vehicle website that has massive daily traffic, with sig pics limited to about 150HX500W there is no problem with load times at all. Avatars are 100KB and 64x64 limit.

It'd be nice to have some interesting race cars, etc to look at as we read through the forums.

Apart from the reasons of good taste? :p

Shouldn't we see a few (dozen) examples of what you're talking about before commenting? :p

Mark's probably right. But it would still be nice to be able to at least put our favorite car or driver in our sigs, if not as avatars under our screen names.

Yeah, it has to be motorsport/car-related and not porno jiggling boobs lets say.

Here's what I like:

Avatars that have been well-designed and fit into the forum, that aren't just 'picture blocks'.

I dislike most avatars though.

I think the forum should disallow avatars. But here's something I would suggest - if a member can prove that they're good at designing an avatar then an examption could be allowed - avatars for those with the best design skills. Opinion?

Well, that sets Mark and his group up to be judges. And as soon as someone passes and someone else fails, there will surely be hard feelings.

This is the only forum I'm on (besides a technical forum) that doesn't allow them, but the avatar thing is no big deal to me.

Who needs to be judges, and whats with all the hooha?

We either can or cant have them, and they can be anything as long as not offensive, if they are, then the member gets punished.

SIMPLE.

Excactly, we should be allowed a small avatar and a smallish signature picture (nothing massive/rude)

That's just elitest and designed for only the certain few.

Unfair in my opinion.

To be honest the world isn't fair, and there is an element of elitism in almost everything.

Having a picture under your name adds nothing to your posts. I'll accept that it may add identity to members but we've managed to tell each other apart for years without them.

As for the comment on load times. Firstly, not all servers are equal and some are better connected or more powerful than others. Secondly, not all Internet users have equal computer equipment or Internet connections.

You can have a picture on your profile if you want it.

Load time problems are sorted with a (not too shabby) kb + size limit.

Well, avatars could be external to the forum like flags. Therefore, bandwidth is not an issue ;)

As I said before, we should enter 21st century  :p :

ah crap ody...I am totally with Mark on this avatars thing!

Its just too irritating to have your screen full of moving images rather than text which is what a forum should be about eh?

I think IF avatars were allowed they would have to be very small.
Big oversized avatars just make you scroll more & offer NOTHING.

Avatars are a visual signature but is a 100x100 or 200x50 icon really necessary ?
I'm into making icons & such but I don't crave adding avatars.
I vote NO AVATARS.

Avatars are already here anyway, the flags are just restricted choice avatars.
