Ah, another international 'bitch & moan' session conveined, and someone applies to the famous doctrine; "if you can't grasp the imagination, then grab some headlines".

Not much of a suprise, considering the folks that attend these 'conferences'.

Oh, Bolivia.... Whew, thank goodness! I thought I'd pulled a Rip Van Winkle, woke up in 2012 and Sarah Palin and her minions had seized the Presidency.

No joke. One of those family values groups that Sarah's hooked up with claims that teenage boys who read (look
at ;) ) Playboy magazine turn into homersexuals. So just imagine what would happen if a teenage boy was to eat a bucket of KFC chicken while looking at a Playboy! Man, he'd be all kinds of gay! A $3 bill would have nothing on him.

I think that sends you into not just listening to, but also singing show tunes during your work day. Right after that, you join the Liza Minnelli Fan Club and watch the Tonys every year.

Obligatory disclaimer: *not that there's anything wrong with that*

Jag...you and I both know Sarah aint THAT stupid. That said...some of the followers she has attracted are a little loopy...

The remarks were made at the Values Voter Summit that Sarah was scheduled to attend, but was a last minute no show (which caused her some heartburn). It was a "mainstream" Evangelical/conservative gathering - not a bunch of hayseeds. Mitt Romney, Bill O'Reilly, Gov. Rick Perry, Bill Bennett, Gary Bauer, Eric Cantor and Sarah's "other from another mother, Michele Bachmann, were all there.

You have to remember, Mark, here in the Bible Belt, many people don't have as liberal views on what is or isn't obscene as people in certain other parts of the country. There were "blue laws" where I now live up until just a few years ago. And just last year a truck driver got busted by the county sheriff's dept. for offering for sale some porn DVD's at a truck stop. I don't mean kiddie stuff or anything weird. I mean just regular old garden variety skin flicks. As a child I attended an evangelical church. And I would say that if Sarah doesn't believe things along these lines, she's faking her faith.

I don't really attend church on a regular basis anymore. But if you're ever in the area on a Sunday, swing by and I'll take you to a service. You'll probably walk out looking like this:

Hey man...I have been in the south and I dated a girl who was from a good old fashioned Baptist family. I know what it is like down there and how the evangelical set really is cranked about all the "Evil" in America, but I also know political people and whether they be on the left or right will cater or not cater to the kooks. Those who really feel that way right through to their core are a fringe. Palin is smarter than that..but she caters to that crowd because she knows she can get those votes without working hard at it.....

Most of the people on the right in US politics do what the Democrats do with their loony fringe. They pay lip service to em. Well...at least until Obama started giving them jobs in the White House...lol

Well, I guess Sarah has been planning her political future since she as a kid. From the types of bible camps she went to, to the types of college(s) she's attended, to the types of churches she's attended, to the things that have come out of her own mouth... she must be quite the smooth playa. :D

As has been said by more than a few (in the know), I believe she does have good political instincts. As for how "smart" she is, I don't know about that. Michele Bachmann has an advanced degree, in addition to a J.D. But I don't know that I'm going to try to sell her to anybody as being "smart". As for Palin, I would have more respect for her if she actually believed and followed her chosen faith, rather than if it was all just some sort of political act - and I'm not believing she's that good of an actress.

I've read more than a bit about Sarah's church: the Wasilla Assembly of God. And if you think that Tom Coburn's Chief of Staff (that's who made the original porn = homosexuality comment, BTW - not some hayseed, rube) is a kook, then Sarah went to a church (from the time she was a child) that held beliefs a LOT more extreme than what Schwartz said.

Hey...if you are going to knock politicians for not seeing and hearing things in Church, you might want to watch tapes of ole Rev. Wright in full fury. Yet Obama considered him a mentor until the truth got out. Meanwhile, he claims in the 20 years of going to Rev. Wright's sermons, he never heard what America and the world heard.

I have to say that taking pot shots at Palin over her faith is a bit rich. She ain't no rocket scientest and I don't think she should be President, but at least she doesn't think the world is stupid enough to believe she could hear the type of crap Wright peddles and NEVER remember any of it..

Amazing.....there are two standards...

Jag_Warrior
26th April 2010, 20:15
I agree that there are two standards: one for everybody else and one for Palin. We had (legitimate, IMO) discussions here about Rev. Wright and Obama's association with that church for 20 years or so. But apparently we're not supposed to talk about the Wasilla Assembly of God and Palin's association with that church for 40 years or so. We had (legitimate) discussions about Williams Ayers' association with Obama. But I guess we're not allowed to talk about the Palins' association with (and Todd's membership in) a group whose founder cursed to hell the United States, and was killed while trying to make an illegal explosives deal.

I was just reading some other things about Palin last evening. The Evangelical right certainly seems to think that Palin is one of them... to the point that many believe she has been sent to them by a divine power. What she believes on that particular issue, I don't pretend to know, and have never claimed that I did.

But if it's fair game to discuss the faith, words, beliefs and associations of every other person in politics, it baffles me as to why Sarah Palin should get a pass.

When she gets a pass from the media, let me know? She is the pinyata for all the late night comedians, MSNBC, not to mention most of the media.

See Jag, I don't like her either. I think she is too ready to take the complex and simplify and dumb it down....but I do see how she wasn't the VP candidate officially and people were losing their MINDS about this woman. The fact is, she ran a state, seems to have ran it well, was re-elected and she did a good job running her home town. In short, she had accomplished something...yet you never heard about that. Just on how scary she is. We never hear the end of THAT. Attack her on her lack of depth all you like, but I think her religious views are really small potatoes.

Looking at all this from the outside, the sad thing is the importance of religion in US politics on all sides. Here, it is barely an issue, and quite right too. One of the three current main party leaders was even brave enough to state recently that he's an atheist. Imagine that in the US!

At times I agree entirely Ben. The thing is though, I do think they were carving her up before she barely opened her mouth. I remember the frenzy that went down when she first became a national figure. I don't think she uttered more than a few lines at a McCain rally and the knives were out.....

So you believe that a candidate should get a pass when it comes to their religious views? A lot of the nutters (most, probably) still believe that Obama is a "secret Muslim". OK, let's say that he really is a Muslim. And let's say that he belongs to a mosque that teaches a radical view of Islam... one where women are to be seen, but not heard. So you believe that we should ignore that and just move on?

I don't care whether a person is a Muslim, Jew, Mormon, Fundamentalist Evangelical or whatever. But I also don't give people a pass on their beliefs, just because they are religious in nature. I wouldn't give Obama a pass, and I won't give Palin a pass either. Sorry.

There was a report on Bloomberg yesterday that Fox is paying her about $1 million/year and she's already raked in millions on her book. Her speaking fees are being kept under wraps as much as possible by her management, but she apparently is doing pretty well there too.

That fairytale she told about why she was resigning as governor of Alaska after only about half a term was ripe. Sweetheart had $ signs in her eyes. And good for her. If Beck and Limbaugh can make tens of millions doing political entertainment, why shouldn't she? Do I think she'll run for anything in the future? I don't know... probably not. Heck, that's hard work! And people will hold you accountable. And you don't get paid all that much. And you have to tell people where your money comes from. Nah, what fun is that?! But I do think she'll talk about it over & over & over... and over ("Selling the Sizzle"... maybe Danica Patrick was her ghost writer, eh? :D ).

'Gay dog' refused entry to Australian restaurant

Sun Apr 25, 2:25 am ET
SYDNEY (AFP) – An Australian restaurant that refused a blind man entry because a waiter thought his seeing-eye dog was "gay" has been ordered to apologise and pay compensation.
Ian Jolly was told he could not take guide dog Nudge into Adelaide's Thai Spice last May because a member of staff objected, The Sunday Mail reported.
The restaurant's owners said a misunderstanding had arisen between Jolly's female companion and a waiter who understood the woman "to be saying she wanted to bring a gay dog into the restaurant".
"The staff genuinely believed that Nudge was an ordinary pet dog which had been desexed to become a gay dog," the owners said in a statement to South Australia's Equal Opportunity Tribunal.
The tribunal on Friday ordered the restaurant to pay Jolly 1,500 dollars (1,400 US) and offer him a written apology for discriminating against him on the grounds of disability.
The restaurant, which displays a "guide dogs welcome" sign, refused to comment to the newspaper and was unavailable to respond on Sunday.
Jolly told the Sunday Mail he was happy with the result.
"I just want to be like everybody else and be able to go out for dinner, to be left alone and just enjoy a meal," he said.

That is pretty much how I see it. She likely figured if she was going to have the nations' press going through her life and her kids life with a fine toothed comb, she might as well make some coin in the process. Don't blame her at all...that's America, take the money if they are willing to pay ya!!
