View Full Version : No third race on ITV

Despite ITV shouting it loud from the rooftops on how wonderful their coverage of the BTCC will be this year, there will be no live coverage of the third race from Rockingham this weekend, it will only be shown as part of the highlights programme.

Glad I got my tickets to go then :\

It will be shown delayed in full.

Which is what I said, it is not live coverage as they said it would be.

There's definately no way of avoiding the clash, what with ITV3 being committed to showing repeats of Wexford and Poirot for the umpteenth time, and ITV2 showing the classic 1995 ghost film Casper.

Nice one, ITV.

I liked the way they tried to cover it up by saying "now you can go to the event and watch it afterwards on the TV" come on ITV, you're not fooling anyone :(

What does one expect from a modern-day business other than transparently useless attempts to put a positive gloss on things?

g "now you can go to the event and watch it afterwards on the TV" (

Which is strange because for more than 30 years we've been able to do that with the aid of video tapes/recordable dvds/digital harddrive recorders......

There WILL be a livestream of the whole day on the ITV website http://btcc.net/html/generalnews_detail.php?id=1903 :)

a stream is better than nothing. I find it hard to believe the ITV would rather do this than just move the broadcast from ITV 4 to ITV 3?

The only thing i can think of is a restriction on ITV showing live sporting events on 2 channels at the same time.

No Steve Rider either, as according to this morning's London Marathon coverage he's in that instead.

Has anyone tried streaming from the ITV website? It sucks. For some reason even their online stuff falls a long way short of the quality that you get from 4od and BBC iPlayer

Well, ITV were having (and probably still are) financial issues so I doubt they can afford the infrastructure required for the high quality of the almost-infinitely-funded BBC.

At the moment, there is no live streaming at all from Rockingham. But, as you say, what do you expect? ITV is just rubbish compared to the BBC, and that's a fact. Would anyone miss it if it didn't exist?

Interestingly its listed as being an ITV5 stream on the website.

The streaming isn't too bad, the picture quality is not as good as on TV of course but it is entirely watchable.

EDIT: Literally as I clicked post the picture has just cut out.

BDunnell

As I type, it is more of an ITV0 stream. The G50s were being shown, but the broadcast has now cut out.

oh dear ITV(5)

Its back on now, just as Wrathall wins the G50 race

And by the sounds of it, we missed a cracker :(

That's because they push too much money into ****e programming. Channel4 is funded in the same way and is streets ahead in terms of what they offer and how to get, and they still put money into the British film industry. Now that 4OD is available on Youtube their footage is even more accessible. Apart from sport and the occassional film I think that the only thing I watch on ITV is Harry Hill, and that's not a 'must see'.

Absolutely. Now that Inspector Morse, Maigret and Midsomer Murders are all over and available on DVD, along with all the old episodes of Taggart when it was utterly grey and grim, there really isn't any point in ITV carrying on, in my view.

I don't watch anything on ITV except for the England matches, the FA Cup Final and the BTCC. Hardly day-to-day viewing.

I thought the live streaming from ITV was pretty decent and certainly did not diminish my enjoyment of the race. I enjoyed the extra interviews ITV had afterwards.

The coverage itself was, as ever, very good indeed.

They did seem to manage an interview with just about every driver at some point in the weekend, Including Matt Hamilton and Shaun Hollamby :) well done to Simon Hill, he did a great job on the Grid Walk to interview that many drivers

It didn't seem worth starting a whole new thread for this, but it's ITV-related:

Steve Rider has quit as ITV Sport's main anchor, ending a relationship spanning more than 30 years, following last month's hiring of Adrian Chiles from the BBC.

ITV said that it had reached an "amicable agreement" with Rider, who has been ITV Sport's main presenter since 2005 and has worked for the broadcaster on and off since the 1980 Moscow Olympics, that will see him leave his role immediately.

Mm, interesting, in my view Steve is a far better broadcaster than Chiles - and with a far broader knowledge of sport. I suppose Louise Goodman will now present the BTCC....

He'd wanted to present the F1 coverage on ITV from the outset, but there were some issues with his BBC contract as I recall. Then he finally gets over to ITV and becomes the F1 anchor, just for F1 to go back to the BBC again!

You'd think he'd have no problem getting a job in Motorsport broadcasting - he was part of BHP, I think.

Hardly surprising.

Adrian Chiles is over rated. Why on earth would you want to replace Rider's slick and professional presentation skills whereas Chiles should stick with radio phone-ins/highlights-roundup package

Thats a shame, Steve loves the BTCC aswell.
They need someone to replace him, not Louise Goodman. She doesnt come across as that professional and often gets mixed up.
Charlie Cox? John Watson?

Charlie Cox AND John Watson Please :) just like the late 90s..... lets bring back Murray aswell while were at it :D

CarlMetro

If John Watson got the job then I'd definately not watch, can't stand the bloke. Charlie Cox won't happen either, he's too well settled in MotoGP and can't see him giving that up for a national car series which is only getting worse.

Yes, that's all it is. Yes, it's exciting, but that's all it is. It does extremely well to get the Live coverage it gets. Many International series don't get coverage that good, LMS/ALMS, GT1, etc

Sorry, I was just stating that it's just a National series, he's (Charlie Cox)hardly likely to leave a World Championship (MotoGP), is he?

It seems he is continuing to present the BTCC coverage this year (according to the official BTCC site).
