It all starts again this weekend at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide. TV coverage in the UK on Motors TV on Sunday afternoon. :D

Looking forward to seeing the new driver lineups and car colours, plus how the new VE Holden goes compared to the VZ.

Did use the same qualifying system as F1?
Even so, these are long races and any one can win it Jamie Whincup came through last year from mid field start in the first race win to round and the second race.
All about tactics and Knowing when to make your move, I love the Clipsal, A top shelf event!

Go Lownsey,
I Hope R.Kelly finds the a nice wall to Caress.
Go to see Courtney and Winterbottom and Whincup up there.
Dick's team doing well,
But I think it will be Tander's year.
Love to se Lownsey win the year to justify last year's Kelly gang robbery!

Queation are a Holden Man or Ford man,
I'm neither I prefer to cheer the drivers on in what ever car the drive.
I cheer GT and Lowndsey on.
But it's great to see the future rise through like
Courtney, Winterbottom Whincup.
Soft spot Jason Richards great little driver gives his all (even thought he's a Kiwi) go No.3 go1

Based on Race 1:

I may not like Rick Kelly, but its becoming obvious that last year's title was pretty much an accurate reflection of his talent. His 4th place was pretty damn solid from starting from 15th? on the grid methinks.

James Courtney will be a champion, mark my words. As an analogy, I'm going to use Marcos Ambrose. Both were quick rookies who were experienced european racers and got onto the business of winning quick-smart. No doubt in my mind that he will be champion maybe by 2007 season's end.

Well done Todd Kelly. Good shot at the title this year, I reckon. Hopefully Skaife is a bit more solid/fortunate this year as well.

Good race. But I hope Race #2 is more eventful!

Just seen the delayed coverage of both races. If James Courtney hadn't fluffed both his starts, he could have won them both the the pace he was showing. :)

I liked the 7 TV coverage as well. Pit reporters were a lot better and more informative and the commentary was good. Far less shouty than it was when Leigh Diffey was doing it.

watched race 2 delayed yesterday, i think thats the 1st V8 race i've managed to see all the way through, sen plenty of highlights over the last couple of years and getting into the sweries now.

i've got to say, i know Rick Kelly is not everyones favourite after last year, but i thought he drive fantastically in that 2nd race, especially after his moment at the hairpin it was great to see him ont settle for second and puch Todd ito the mistake.

James Courtnay drove an excellent race, part from the 1st few hundred yards, think he could well have won it from near the front.

just a few questions though, i gather there is a new Holden this year, are all the Holden teams running it or are there a few of the old model further down the field? looked like they were mostly the new model but then again it doesn't look all that much different to me?

is there a new Ford this year too, and are all the Falcons the same model or atre there a mixture of ages?

where is Radisch this year?

think i'm probably falling down on the side of the Holdens at the moment, but am picking up a few names that i seem to look out for more, both Holden and Ford drivers, hopefully i will be able to follow more of the season this year, and it should be asier to keep up with a more sensible scoring system

A few teams are still running the older VZ model, the Perkins, Morris & PWR teams ran one VE & one VZ in their team, Autobarn Racing still had a VZ as well. All the rest were new VE model cars.

The only difference between last years BA Falcon & this years BF Falcon is a different aerodynamic package, so everyone is running BF's (the BA is now ineligible to compete)

Paul Radisich broke his ankle & sternum at Bathurst last year. He tested at Winton just prior to round one, but deemed himself not fit enough to return. He is slated to take his seat in the TKR Falcon from round 2 at Wanneroo in a few weeks.

There's a new Holden VE Commodore this year, but teams are allowed to run the VZ model from last year until they get their VEs ready. The Falcon is now the BF model as opposed to the BA model, but I don't think it's anywhere near as changed as the two Holden models are.

Here's a VE (top) and a VZ (bottom)

Paul Radisich is still recovering from his injuries at Bathurst last year, but hopes to be back by round two. :) He felt the 500km races would have been too much for a comeback event.

Is it correct the VE had a inch chopped out of the middle lengthways to make it fit the regs...so that in fact, it's not the same dimensions as the road car? All seems a bit too NASCAR for my liking.

As for the champion, i'd love it to be Lowndes after last year, but if not then Tander for me - great driver who deserves a crown.

Iain
5th March 2007, 19:25
It had some of the wheelbase chopped out as well I think.

XR8
6th March 2007, 10:13
Mate! The VE has been chopped in nearly every panel ( rear doors, front guards roofline) it doesnt even sit on a original floor pan or chassis rails.
Ford were so alarmed but they said well if this is the ground rules as long as they can do the same with there new car next year. The car is more like a nascar!

6th March 2007, 10:53
Never realised it was quite that drastic...so is this in line with the AVESCO future plans for wheelbases, or just to fit in with current regs?

Robinho
6th March 2007, 21:03
thanks guys, hope i will get more out of the series this year, i have certainly enjoyed the bits i've caught the last year or 2, and the second race from adelaide was all the better for understanding who and what is happening

Homer! It appears that AVESCO has wanted a common floor pan idea for quite some time. The max wheelbase and other dimensions were drawn up some years ago and as the VE is much longer in the wheelbase than the previous cars they went down this route. The new FALCON next year will also be longer in the wheelbase and at this stage it appears that the floorpan, rails and suspension will be common to both cars with the panels cut & shut to suit the major structure.

Skaife met a deadline imposed by the Touring Car Entrants Group (TEGA), .....But a TEGA spokesman said the organisation had decided to take legal advice on the situation and announce a decision before the next round of the championship, due to commence in Perth on Friday week.

Skaife Sports and the Touring Car Entrants Group Australia (TEGA) have agreed in principle to a financial settlement that will see the team have its licences to race reinstated upon signing of a deed of release early next week.
