A court ordered the hotel to pay £2,015 after a health and safety investigation concluded that the owners had failed to carry out a 'risk assessment' on the dangers of sawing a tree branch with a ladder against it and should have trained Mr Aspinall and a colleague on where to place the ladder.

This is a joke, right? Because I sure have been laughing for the last 10 minutes.

So he put his ladder up against the branch he was cutting instead of the trunk?

Reminds me of Clarkson when they were making a Renault Espace convertable and he was cutting the roof whilst stood on it.

Having been in the tree business in cottage country you should have seen some of the stunts pulled by 'weekend warriors' as we called them.
Probably one of the funniest was the group who decided to cut down a tree that was leaning over their cottage. Pros would have taken it done in several pieces carefully roped off.
Well the weekend warriors did tie a rope around the trunk up fairly high and the other end onto their high horsepower ski boat's transom so as to pull the tree away from the cottage. Clever right?
NOPE!
Tree starts to fall. Boat given full power.
Tree lands on cottage.
Boat lands on dock.
Transom and motor land on lawn.
Damage in the thousands to cottage and boat.
Insurance invalid.
Boat had power but very little torque.

We carried $2,000,000.00 liability insurance.
Nowdays it would be $10,000,000.00.
Touch a power line and you need it.
Ditto for stump grinding, which is what we did, because of the danger of cutting telephone lines or worse a gas line. Getting a locate was not always accurate and gas lines were not always the 3 feet down they were supposed to be.
We did hit phone and cable TV lines but nothing else.

LMAO! The boat may have plenty of power, but not a lot of grip!

People like this should be charged an Air Tax for the air they steal by breathing. Stupid is too mild a term.
