Could this be a major factor in Kahne leaving?
Richard Petty Motorsports, the NASCAR team owned by George Gillett, has been in default on a roughly $90 million loan since at least February but expects to soon restructure the obligation, sources said last week. The default on the debt underscores the harm NASCAR suffered from the economic collapse of late 2008 and, in particular, the impact of contraction among Detroit's Big Three automakers on race teams

Slory, I suspect that was the last straw. He knew things were not working out financially at all for the Gillett's. He would have to know and probably was waiting to see how things shook out. In theory, they are in better shape on the track at RPM than they were last year, and yet Kasey hasn't had any luck really with the Ford's.
I think you just reach a point where you need to change things up, and the only thing I am curious about is Kenny Francis going with him?

Agreed. As for Francis, I have no clue, nobody seems to know at this early hour what Kahne's gonna do next year, no less Francis. And who is gonna replace Kahne here? Harvick is now the 800 lb gorilla in the free agent room, and I don't forsee him busting his hump to run over to a team that might not even exist soon.....

Harvick I suspect wont go anywhere unless Stewart-Haas starts a 3rd team. I think in the end, Harvick would be crazy to go anywhere.

I suspect there's also a Plan C at the bottom of the list; If a major sponsor shows up, move his own NW team up to Cup and drive there.

Harvick's all but locked up at Childress, IMO. The default was related strictly with the former Gillett Evernham Motorsports, since that was related with the Chrysler situation (which was a crackup created by Pelosi, Reid, and Obama with their wants of automakers to make tiny cars; it turns out that Obama was working with Ford on creating his auto policy, which led to seizures of opponents since they weren't following what Obama wanted).

I don't know if I am willing to buy Obama's role in destroying GM or Chrysler or not Bobby, but ya, I think Harvick hasn't a lot of choices at this point...
