Rally Mille Miglia will open 2010 European Rally Championship on April 22. I think this rally definitely deserves its own thread :)

This event counts not only for European, but also for Italian championship and Clio R3 European Trophy.

As stepunk informed us (thank you mate!) as many as about 25 S2000 cars are expected at the start! If we add to that a lot of group N cars plus competitors of Clio R3 Trophy we will get an excellent entry list!

Drivers expected at the start:
Grande Punto: Basso, Rossetti, Cunico, Cantamessa, Bernardelli.
207: Andreucci, Longhi, Travaglia, Perico, Cavallini, Michelini, Chentre, C. Fontana, Betti, Manzini, Tosini, L. Fontana, Niboli.
Fabia: Kopecky, Signor, Tlustak, Odlozilik.
Fiesta: Sciessere, Oleksowicz.
Proton: Nodari.
Clio R3: Princen, Gamba and many more.

Looking to the entry list and for the drivers... I'm sure the competition will be very strong in many classes... R3 class will be also interesting... with Princen, Cerny, Torlasco, Dallavilla, Mauffery, Gamba, Campedelli, Bizarri, Gianfico... wow... it will be really interesting!

For the overall, I would like that Basso and Rossetti can show that Fiat are not dead... but I think it will be very difficult... if it's not impossible...

I think Kopecky, Travaglia, Andreucci and Longhi are the favourites.

A lot will depend on tyres, also. Basso, Rossetti and Longhi are on BF Goodrich, Kopecky, Travaglia and Andreucci on Pirelli.
If it will be dry BF Goodrich are a big advantage, on wet Pirellis are better!

Why Kopecky will run with Pirelli????

They use BF Goodrich in IRC.... Pirelli is the new sponsor for Skoda in CIR ?

Think rationally. Where is the chance of better (in quality) entry list? Probably only again in Italy.
1) Ypres - you will have ERC + IRC but no chances for so many good drivers and cars,
2) Maderia - the same (like last year),
3) Barum - close, but in similar quantity of cars, quality will be a little worse,
4) San Remo - IRC (but no ERC) - better quality, maybe worse quantity.

I mentioned only few rallies with high chances of good entries.

Actually not, but everything will depends on situation. Travelling to Madeira take a lot of time and this is problem, especially for checking the parts and rebuilding. And also, the Madeira is the most expensive ERC event in the costs...

True, I was on Lavantal Rallye and was excited over Aigner's performance!! But still I bet that Aigner&Pech...would have zero chance on Italian roads against Ucci&Co. This is another world!! And we should be aware that Andrea Perego is very experienced driver-he knows evo9/10 in the detail...

Kopecky had bif problems with leaking brake fluid since the last part of SS1. He also lost tyre from rim in an hairpin on SS1 and than had to change tyre on SS7. Complete new tyres he hasn't driven before also doesn't help. Anyway he said already before the rally that he didn't feel to be able to fight on top in his first start here. He said that in his oppinion driving really fast on these roads after only two runs of of recce without any previous experience is not possible.

For sure he was thinking in attacking 1st place...

But.. a 2nd place between so many good drivers and cars, still a very nice result for Fiat... everybody was thinking Fiat was clearly of the pace of Peugeot, Skoda, etc... Italian Drivers are showing that Fiat still a nice car...

Maybe the big difference are the drivers skils :)

I think the Punto can only keep up on smoother tarmac events, although maybe they can improve the car further this year.

I agree though that Basso & Rossetti are two of the best drivers around on this type of surface. That should have been their IRC driver lineup all along in my opinion.

I must say that Robert Kubica deserves well respect for his job today. For foreigner with almost no experience and first time in this event really great drive!

I hope that there is no doubt about who is the best: Paolino Andreucci!!!
More than convincing victory! Congratulations to others, although they will not have light sleep-delays behind Ucci are almost incredible....
An important victory for Albertini in R3 class, second Cempedelli (for me personaly biggest surprise of the whole rally, as his experience with front wheel drive is short...). Talking about R3 class: Dallavilla(don't forget, this is his home event) is a huge disappointment, I expected from him fight for the victory in R3 class. Kubica showed exceptional talent today!!
And poor Perego with his evoX, disastrous gap (more than 10 minutes), in Italy we can forget stories about competitiveness with bigger restrictor...
So, now to a gravel race-Adriatico. And another win of Ucci. Bye, bye....

Kopeckı had another flat tyre on the last stage (third). he said that compared to yestreday this time it wasn't his fault...

dimvii: Yes, both Pirelli. But don't forget that while Ucci is main Pirelli testing driver and uses them for years, Kopecky never used them before thursday shakedown ;)

On the last stage it was problem with deffective tyre valve.

It's obvious that Italians don't care too much about competing in foreign championships 'cos their own is high profile and when some foreign crew come up, they usually have big problems with their professionals..

Fantastic second day for Renato Travaglia :)
Too bad he had tires set-up/differential problems yesterday...otherwise he'd have disputed victory with Ucci and Rox :(

Dallavilla had huge problems during the whole rally . I was on Saturday and during the whole day his Clio was obviously on 60% ....

I got back home on Sunday morning after a 15-hour nightly trip. The volcano from Iceland canceled my flight so I had to drive from Italy through Austria and Germany to Poland. As expected, the rally was great! After having driven the whole Pertiche stage with my own car, I now know why people say those stages are crazy! :)

This is Mille Miglia 2010 in my eyes. Enjoy! :)

Me too! :) Too bad Antonin Tlustak is not included in this video, he gave the best show on the racing track. What a pity I came too late and missed Pedersoli's performance :(

Lots of S2000's entered - how do they afford to run that many? We have just one in our series.

Italians love motorsport, they have fuel in their blood :) And CIR is the best national rally championship. They also know how to look for a budget.

It was better because of the better entry list, but the cars were driven very similar, not as spectacular as they should be (definitely it's time to change the criteria :( ). But in total it was very good and the main problem is now, that there is no rally that can be more interesting than this one. Today or tomorrow I will publish my photos.

How's the situation on Madeira now? I mean the roads?

The roads are ok fro the rally... only some minor changes in the route, but nothing special I think ;)
