2010 will host the first edition of the Rallye de Portugal Revival, an event to classic cars, with date of construction until 1982, except only the models of four-wheel drive, and that will evolve between the two passages of competitors participating in the WRC, thereby continuing the high level of pageantry the event, which will have almost no dead time during its last two days.

Were there any 4WD rally cars before 1982?

Or do you mean no 4WD? ;)

I have heard that Steve Perez will be there in his Stratos

Just RWD or FWD will be allowed.
First Audi Quattro is from 1980 and was homologated in 1981

No, you can go to the stages and you dont have to pay, rally passe includes the tickets to both superspecials and exclusive parking for your car.

PGA vs. Hänninen - at last :-) All in all it looks really nice entry list, like said.

This is probably the most interesting aspect of the rally to me, amongst the WRCars the entry list is only "normal"

How do you think it will turn out?

My gut feeling is that PGA will be just ahead, (nothing against Hanninen who is an excellent driver) but only because I rate PGA as one of the worlds absolute very best on loose surfaces.

PGA has definitely found good pace this year, but so have Hänninen too, so the starting position will be very much 50/50. Hänninen knows Skoda better, I think (though it isn't a factory Skoda on Portugal, right?), so if PGA wins Hänninen in a clear fight (no offs, no punctures), that'll be good measurement of his speed. In Portugal, chances are 50/50, but later on if they meet again in Finland, I think it'd be very unexpected from PGA to be faster than Hänninen there. But like said - this is the most interesting fight and I hope also it won't get too hyped.

What's the quickest way to get to Faro overland? From say London or Paris?

I guess by car, travel Bus take to many time and stop loads of times too. If you could rent a car I reckon you could be here in less than 3 days.

From midday the of the 13th of May until the afternoon of 14th of May it looks really bad for Spain, Portugal, Southern France and Italy. After that southern flow starts to dominate but it might be problematic to get away from GB. If you can reach to Paris, then there should not be too much problems.

By car, if you are not traveling alone and you can share driving then it is possible to do it in 24 hours from Calais to Faro (Calais-Rouen-LeMans-Tours-Poitiers-Bordeaux-Bayonne-Burgos-Valladolid-Salamanca-Sevilla-Faro). We did it with our VW transporter small bus. It is approximately 2200 km. Most of the road can be covered on the highways. The road tolls are quite expensive (something near 80 EUR in total for one way), but traffic on most of those roads is quite low. In some places (in Spain) you can drive on the free highway that runs parallel to toll highway and you wont loose too much time. It was actually quite relaxing to drive little bit slower for a while.

I drove 1600km alone before we switched. So, it is possible to do it alone in 1.5 days as well.

For Immediate Release

1993 WRC Champions Together Again for Inaugural Rally After 14 years

This year’s Vodafone Rally de Portugal, 27-30 May, has an extra treat in store for spectators. On day two and three of the WRC rally, there will be an addition with the Rallye de Portugal Revival, run for the first time.

This is a mini event, sharing the same service park, as the main WRC competitors, for classic two wheeled cars built before December 1981, will be run on the same stages as the WRC. Entering in the inaugural event, are two former team mates, co-driver Nicky Grist and driver Juha Kankkunen, driving a MkII Ford Escort.

Winners of the 1993 WRC, Nicky and Juha last competed together in The Rally Finland of 1996, where they finished second.

“It will be great to be back with Juha, after all this time” commented Nicky “The last time we won this rally together was in 1994, and the superspecial at the Algarve Stadium will be an exciting start to the Rally Revival”

Nicky and Juha competed in the WRC together between 1993 and 1996 for the Toyota Castrol team. In 1997 Nicky joined with Colin McRae, in the Subaru World team, while Juha took the place of Armin Schwarz, in the Ford Motor Company, supporting Carlos Sainz in his bid for the championship.

They are pretty agressive, just like the Police, and I think we all know why they are, back in the past spectators were the main cause of problems here in Portugal.

I reccomend you to stay on spectators zones, if you dont sometimes a helicopter will spot you and call marshalls or police to take you away from that spot.

Between when I say agressive I mean they wont stop boggering you off, they are not going to beat us or anything :D .

What you think - will Latvala drive absolute 100% or perhaps 95% keeping in mind what happened last year? Cautious start wouldn't hurt, like he did in NZ. What we need to see is Hirvonen going for the throat.

He wouldn´t be on that pace driving a Focus. Sorry to say that but it´s a fact.

This season he does very important job for Citroën as he is able to win first leg and sweep road for Loeb in next day. Loeb saves a lot of time which he would have to loose to avoid starting first.

Try to forget the nationalities a bit for a moment (as so many on here fail to do) and explain how you have come up with that theory?

They're both good drivers for sure, and Ketomaa has had several mechanical problems this year that weren't his fault but PG was really in a class of his own in the other 2 rallies he started in terms of speed so far...
