Interesting discussion in the drivers' briefing, when the issue of the (frankly useless) mirrors was brought up. Apparently they want to go back to having standard mirrors, rather than the fancy aerodynamic devices they are at the minute which vibrate at high speed.

After the issue with Alonso in the race and the alleged blocking in qualifying, it's clear something needs doing. It'll be interesting to see how quickly the FIA react to this, if the drivers have consensus then it should be fairly swift..

It shouldn't be a problem, the FIA have made changes on the grounds of safety before without having to go to a vote from the teams.

The current mirrors are virtually useless, and if they all have to change then nobody is disadvantaged.

The mirrors have always been pretty useless on bumpy tracks.. A rear-facing camera with a small view screen might be a better solution.

There'd be some degree of time delay from camera to screen. Even 0.01s might be critical.

0.01s at 280 km/h is 7 and a bit meters - that's quite a distance in F1.

Monitors are also quite useless in sunlight. Properly secured mirrors are low-tech but perfect for the job.

McLaren still have the traditional in-board mirrors so they might be disadvantaged less than some others.
