Just had our first run in the S2000 Skod and I am quite fond of the little nipper. May make a switch for the WRC, depending on the speed of the stages for the next rally...
Paddy-I'll leave it to you to submit our team name- perhaps Drum Dark Blue Tobacco Rallysports :p

Hmm, so far I've had 4 entries, and 75% of that are Peugeots! How about some variety here guys? :p
Looks interesting with a lot of guys saying they like this class so maybe we're going to be seeing a really close event here.

Yup, this entire championship is based on the real SA Rally Championship, with the events as closely matched to their namesake as possible. The Tour Natal is my home event (the Gauteng rally at the end of the season is Paul's home event) and is based on sugarcane plantations. Interestly enough when Conrad Rautenbach did this event 3 weeks ago he said the roads were the best in the world! Super smooth but very slippery. Traditionally it rains a little bit on the 2nd day, which explains my weather choice, but unfortunately RBR can't replicate the road conditions of that situation - in real life the sugarcane roads actually gain more grip when wet than when dry! It's like the secret weapon of the locals versus the guys from other parts of the country - they see the rain and think "go to wet tyres", meanwhile the locals know they can stay on drys for longer and push harder. :D

Nah our stuff is used purely for sugar as far as I know, and I do know some of the farmers.
7 entries so far, not too shabby, seems like the manufacturers championship will be Skoda vs Peugeot at this rate.

Yes great name tannat :D Though I've PM'd Bruce to call the team "Dark Blue Drum Rallysport" - just a slight preference as when I'm in the shop buying tobacco I ask for Dark Blue Drum as opposed to Drum dark blue.
I will probably do this rally tomorrow, or Friday at the latest because this weekend, I'm going back home for the Easter break and won't have access to the computer.

No car 1 cos its the first season and there is no champion - I like the idea of permanent numbers for a season, so these are your numbers for this season and next season will be based on the championship results from this season.
Yeah I was moaning about Peugeots and now there are tons of Skodas! Oh well, should be interesting to see who comes out on top, although I'm expecting a big fight for the win between lots of people.

Yeah just spoke to NeverKnow about this. Apparently you RSRBR2010 guys can't select bad weather for this stage without it kicking you back to clear weather. I've said you must run it in damp conditions for now and lets just see who else has the problem. It worked fine for my RSRBR09 last night. I might cancell the stage or work out a suitable adjusted time.

Bruce D
26th March 2010, 12:29
Seems to be a problem with PTD and RSRBR09 although why now I don't know as it's never done it before to me. Just note your time and email it through with your results (it's very easy for me to see who's cheating so don't worry).
NeverKnow

4,9k into the stage when turning right at the junction and onto tarmac after the medium left corner there is K left onto gravel and over the finish line. My guess is tannat missed that part of the notes (notes could have been more clearer on this part) and continued the stage and the game ended. It has happened to me few times when I forgot about the junction at the end or did not pay attention to notes at that part. RBR will show you the time but RSRBR doesn't register stage has been finished, resulting only 2 splits on the timesheet and 99% finished stage.
Bruce D
26th March 2010, 13:43
You know, I've been through that stage hundreds of times and never heard that call K left, although I know where you're talking about. Wierd. I should check it out some time.

I did the rally this afternoon and have emailed my times. I didn't have time to practice as I was under a lot of pressure to get this rally done today. The Skoda is a nippy little car which handles well but not all of the stages were entirely familiar to me and that hurt my times in parts. Here is a stage-by-stage analysis.
SS1: I never drove this stage before at all. Though, I must say, its a great one  I ended up in a ditch at one point and had to call for help. Aside from that, it settled me into a rhythm for the rest of the stages.
SS2-3: I like both of these stages. I had a confident drive on both of them though a costly spin on SS2 won't help.
SS4: Another good stage. The slippy conditions were a bit of an initial surprised but no major mistakes.
SS5: A very, very good drive but two unfortunate cock-ups. In the opening few kms, I took some medium or fast corners very wide to keep the momentum going. I had the tail out and just about hit the spectators twice, for the same reason within a few seconds of each other. I didn't anticipate that I would hit them at all but I guess I was slightly wide. How much of a penalty to you get for hitting them anyway? I will, for my own sake, subtract the two penalty times from my run to see what my pace was like because it seemed like a decent drive thereafter.
SS6: Not a good finish to the rally. My rhythm was really messy and I was completely unfamiliar with the stage. I had a few spins and, at one point, hit a tree, causing the water temperature to rise. I didn't bother taking care of the engine though because the stage was short enough. After I hit the tree, the car seemed to suffer understeer so possibly, one of the suspensions/axels/wheels was damaged too. And, later in the stage, I had trouble shifting down from third, though that could have been a malfunction with the flappy paddle as opposed to the gearbox.
Overall, I'm happy with how I drove and gutted that I hit the spectators on SS5. That will hurt my rally the most. However, I'm still confident that I can get a decent result and, fingers crossed, some more top three stage times :D
Best of luck everybody and Happy Easter from Ireland!

Finished the rally. I'm very happy just to have reached the finish line without retiring because there was some very scary moments for me.
First stage went mostly ok'sh but had two moments when the rear stepped out - on the first incident I managed to stay on the road but on the second one I went sideways into the ditch. Luckily didn't hit anything and managed to keep going.
The rest 2 stages of the first day I had no problems.
On the second day I tried to go as fast as I could but I was all over the shop on SS4 and SS5. Lost quite some time on those stages and had few offs on SS5. I even had to change my pacenotes midstage to try and stay on the road.
SS6 went ok but I overshot a junction about 3,5k in because call came when I was already at the junction, also had to change my pacenotes a little bit.
Overall I'm happy that I have finished. Most of the time I tried to learn about the car but there is still a long way to go until I can use all the potential of the S2k car. Some pictures from the event. (http://s274.photobucket.com/albums/jj267/t6nns/Tour%20Natal%20Rally/)

Finished the rally too! Day1 was just great! Had some of my best runs In PTD Rallysprint and some pretty fast runs of Sipirkakim and Tanner,
without any problems there. Day2 started Ideally with a fast run of TannerII, but In Sipirkakim, a careless bystander
made me drive outside the road, In order to avoid an accident...I quickly pulled myself together and enter the final stage, where I pushed really hard!
Overall, It was a nice, fast rally, from which I expect some good results!
I really enjoyed the S2000 class!

edit: damp doesn't work for me either

I just finished the rally....
First, I must say that I enjoyed this rally more than I usually do. It was so good to drive under no pressure. In the championship I have to be much more focused, every mistake counts and I can't afford to make one with NeverKnow in my back. I started this rally with zero expectations regarding my times, I just really wanted to have fun and oh boy I really did.
This rally was so tricky, very twisty and technical, if you want to finish you cant afford to go out of the road, specially with these S2000 cars. I've did some of those stages with WRC cars and you can explore more your speed since if you have some problem, with those cars turbos you have big chances to correct mistakes. With S2000 not so much :p .
The Skoda is a fine piece of machinery, specially suspension and brakes wise. Although the engine lacks a bit of power, you still can have fun, and the Skoda was a real surprise for me, looking foward to drive it again.
Here are some pics....

Well the stats so far from the results I've recieved, keeping in mind that I think it's realistic to say the remaining 3 will mix this lot up a bit more, is 4 stage winners from the 5 stages that counted, and the leader going into the last stage finished 4th overall! And someone made a bit of a charge from behind on Day 2.

I will be doing my run this evening. Assuming that the time chosen for SS5 will be an average of the times from the drivers who complete the stage, it would be better to run it with whatever conditions work so that the super rally rule can still apply for those that do not complete it.

Well so far everyone has completed the stage, and I've credited everyone with the fastest time. Only one person failed to do the stage and that was because their system refused load the stage no matter what weather they ran. So I can't penalise them for that.
sperger
29th March 2010, 13:42
I misunderstood. I thought everyone was able to run the stage, just not with the correct weather setting. I wouldn't suggest penalising anyone for a program error. I'll get my times in this evening.
Bruce D
29th March 2010, 14:40
Well 90% of them were, only 1 that I know of that had a problem loading the stage. I can't understand why people had a problem though - it was one of the reasons why I was sticking to Non-BTB stages on this event.

My results are in. I found it a mixed rally with leg 1 being more satisfying than leg 2. I was quite pleased with my times for SS1 and 2 though I made a lot of stupid mistakes from driving recklessly which in turn made me slow down. SS3 was the worst of the 3. I couldn't really get a rhythm going through all of the turns. SS4 was not as bad as it could have been but bad nonetheless. I went flying over some bushes at one point and was quite lucky not to kill any spectators or hit any trees and I lost quite a bit of time trying to get out of the undergrowth. SS5 didn't even start for me and SS6 went by without any major incidents and I got back in 1 piece. This was a good set of stages which all require skill and concentration to get through them. I think this was a very good start to the season. Thanks Bruce.

The first round of the 2010 SA Internet Rally Championship took place in the challenging tight stages of the Total Tour Natal Rally. 10 of the latest S2000 machines lined up for battle in what promised to be a great contest, and didn't fail to deliver.
The first stage was a blast around the spectator stage at PTD Rallysprint and it was the two South African flying the flag by claiming the stage with almost identical times. The second stage was the first of the twisty stages, although the more open of them and NeverKnow blasted into the lead of the rally with a sensational time 18.9sec faster than anyone else. This meant after SS2 NeverKnow held a 16.7sec lead over Paul Minnaar with Macd, Francis44, LCD and BruceD chasing behind, 49sec covering the lot.
Stage 3 was the first run through Tanner and Macd just squeezed in the stage win 0.03sec ahead of Francis44! The Top 6 on this stage were covered by just 5.6sec, so not much changed in the leaderboard, NeverKnow even extending his lead slightly.
Day 2 saw the 2nd run through a damp Tanner this time, and Francis44 and Paul Minnaar fought this one out, with NeverKnow losing 14sec on this stage and Macd over 26sec.
With Stage 5 getting disrupted and everyone been issued the same time, the final stage now saw a shootout for victory. Going into the stage the order was NeverKnow, Paul Minnaar (+3.48), Francis44 (+10.53), LCD (+25.51) and Macd (+31.23). On the last, longest stage, NeverKnow threw it away by overshooting a junction, and that was all that was needed to drop him to 5th overall! So local boy Paul Minnaar ran out the winner ahead of Francis44, while LCD and Macd fought out a battle on the last stage, both taking the leading spots on the stage but Macd failed to take the final podium position by just 0.13sec!

Wow ! – firstly, Grace all the way. Seems there is not much to choose from in these S2000’s, what a rally !
I knew I had done some good runs, but was not 100% sure they’d be good enough, and they probably would not have been had Neverknow not gone farming on the last. Admittedly if SS5 had to be included here, I think we may have seen an upside down leaderboard, I know I had a torrid time there, so was grateful it was blasted from the time sheets.

Pleased with my result, but even happier with my individual stage times, at least in most cases.
A tree on SS6 cost me a bit of time, and although I am very comfortable with the Skoda S200, I just couldn’t push 100% on SS1 (too narrow with close obstacles), SS2 (a bit slippery, and car was a bit nervous) and SS4 (grip not so good).
Going to adjust steering a bit so that it is not so tight. Reassuring at high speeds, but ineffective around the twisty stages…
Nice event, Bruce D

Not sure what happened to you there Paddy, quick look reveals you were off the pace at all the splits too. That stage is very tricky, which is why I love it so much, but it's surprising you were that far off.

Solid result.
Congratulations for Paul and all the other drivers, looking foward to the next event.
Im definitely interested in the results book Bruce, so if you can send me it would be appreciated.

Ouch! Now that is one way of getting your hopes destroyed :( What the hell happened to me on the opening stage!
Copy of the results book please. I'll definitely need to analyse my sector times because the car felt very good.
Default tire selection for that stage is tarmac-that may have been the culprit, Paddy...

Is anyone interested in joining my team??!! It's kinda pointless to drive for a team with only one driver seeing the team only scores with two finishers.
And I might drive the 207 S2000 next round, I have found a perfect set up for it and I can't seem to find a good one for the Fabia S2000.

Bruce, looking at the sector, I was consistantly bad through every stage. How many seconds does the "call for help" feature cost you? And how about when you hit spectators? I think its 40 seconds.
Tannat, I may have struggled with tyres. I didn't know the opening stage anyway. I knew I would be off the pace, but not by that much and on every other stage. Well, I guess I need to get more practice in before the next event. After all, I didn't run the stages before hand whereas on the previous rally in the other series, I did quite a bit of practice. Still, though, enjoyed the event :)

But you did finish, Paddy
Sometimes I see 20 seconds added, and sometimes more...
And hey, DBD Rallysport is ahead of Francis 44 in the team standings :p
Just kidding Francis ;)

It depends on what difficulty level are you using. On "safe" it's 10 seconds, on "reduced" it's 20 seconds and on "realistic" it's 35 seconds for both "call for help" and if you hit a spectator.

LMAO....
I didn't even noticed that in this cup a team can score points with just one driver. Oh well, I guess I shall find a team mate or my team will stay in last place till the end :P .
BTW does anyone know when the next rally will be?? I can't remeber and the first championship thread just disapeared.

I changed the rules a little while back for both championships so that it made more sense then trying to get 2 cars home every time plus it brought more teams into the championship.
Next Cup event will be announced next Tuesday, next SAIRC will be 23rd April. Basically from now until July there is a rally every 2nd week. Should keep you guys busy...

35? Wow, that's painful. Cheers man.
