McLaren has bought back the majority of Mercedes-Benz's stake in its Formula 1 team. The German manufacturer owned 40 per cent of McLaren's F1 operation prior to taking over Brawn GP.
Mercedes denied at the time that the deal would mean the end of its relationship with McLaren, but admitted that the partnership, which is currently agreed until the end of 2011, would change.

What are the implications of this? Is the party finally coming to an end? Will McLaren be eventually forced to look for another engine manufacturer or will they build their own? Will we see a McLaren ZAZ?

Tune in next week for the next exciting installment of...

It seems a long time ago that the first McLaren Mercedes, and based on how much of a dog that was its surprising how long the deal lastest. But this is the way F1 is supposed to be, engine suppliers come and go but the team remains.

McLaren already stated last year that they are looking to build their own engines in an attempt to emulate Ferrari along with the revival of their own supercar business we even had a thread about this back then.

Indeed.

I think they have a five-year option to continue using Merc engines, but it looks most likely that they'll switch to some sort of McLaren-badged unit when the engine formula changes (due to happen in 2012, ja?)

McLaren will be alright. And competitive IMO. They are simply a great team :)
