Sorry to be starting a thread so early but would any locals have any info for someone who wants to go to the event..

Flights at the moment are cheap so was thinking of heading to it..

Anyone have advice on accommodation or car hire??

Also dosent look like there will be many going so is there a group going from here that we could meet up with??

It's a shame there is such a big gap between Argentina and Sardinia, but it should be a really good event due to an expected great entry list. Looking forward to it.

Route published... that's amazing! All the island is involved in the route... Shakedown near Olbia (far north), first stage (far south) in Cagliari, then two new tests near Oristano (one of them is about 30 km long) and, finally, the best WRC stages on Sunday.

http://www.rallyitaliasardegna.com/2010/pdf/itinerario.pdf

Four stages will be televised live.

Great to hear that there will be live tv!

I really hope Abarth might turn up as it is home soil (kind of), but I somewhat doubt it as Sardinia is not in CIR or ERC :(

Eurosport has sent some weeks ago about 10 ppl looking for the route and planning already the tv-schedule (switching with roland garros: 1h rally, 1h tennis, etc.) :)

P.S.: according italiaracing.net (http://www.italiaracing.net/newsrally.asp?id=2220&nome=RALLY&cart=RALLY) the Tourism board of Sardinian region paid 1 million € to sponsor the rally. And if you think the WRC was sponsored with 500k euros... :D

I guess the money is going to pay for the live tv. That's quite clever though, as by paying for the live tv we should see a lot more of the island, especially from the helicopter. I know that watching the stages from Azores last year made me want to go on holiday there!

He is pretty good on asphalt, but better on gravel, so lets see.

Actually starting order shouldn't be a problem for either Hanninen or Ogier in Sardinia:

"As with most gravel rallies, road position can have a major bearing on the result due to the effect of cleaning the course of loose-surface gravel. In a change to the format used on other rounds of the IRC, organisers in Sardinia will run the top ten crews in reverse order of their competition numbers for Saturday's opening leg in two-minute intervals. The remainder of the field will start in number order, albeit with a one-minute gap. On Sunday, the leading ten runners will start in reverse order in two-minute intervals, with the remaining competitors running in rally order separated by one-minute gaps."

Answering my own post, but no, the TRT event runs both days and that is the full entry. There are 40 cars in the Rally del Corallo European Historic rally competing on 8 of the 12 stages, so anyone who is going will be entertained by these cars before/after the IRC event.

Out of interest, with the running order in Sardinia, is it based on the Entry List numbers, or the Championship positions? I know its a reverse top 10 but just wondering what top 10 is reversed bearing in mind Sardinia obviously likes to play by its own rules!

Either way, looks like Mikkelsen should have an OK start on Saturday running 12th on the road. Hope he doesn't fail to deliver upon his potential.

It truly does. As Ogier says on irc.com, I think Andreas could lead or be top 2 or 3 by the end of Saturday, giving him another great road position for Sunday. I don't think Ogier will win the event purely because he's running first on the road on Saturday, may finish about 6th or 7th after day 1 and that means another bad road position on Sunday. Should be exciting.

Ogier was first on the road on day 2 and 3 in Portugal last weekend :)

I expect him to do better than 6th or 7th after day one - one of his main cometitors (Hanninen) will only be one car behind him anyway.

Maybe he'll be a bit higher, but it's a 'new' car for him with which he has little experience, and the roads don't suit his style according to his interviews. That being said, his sweeping in the WRC has been mightily impressive so I may be proved wrong.

The reverse idea - not sure. I was under the impression both days had a reversed order, but Pluto told us otherwise.

Maybe he'll be a bit higher, but it's a 'new' car for him with which he has little experience, and the roads don't suit his style according to his interviews. That being said, his sweeping in the WRC has been mightily impressive so I may be proved wrong.

I think Ogier has quite a lot of experience with the 207, from testing plus 2 x Monte Carlo rallies, although he hasn't driven an actual rally on gravel with it yet.

Anyone got any idea why Al Rahji is 4th? Never heard of him before. PG is a bit high too bearing in mind he's in an EvoX. I'm glad, but puzzled why Andreas is so low too - surely he's podium material, not 12th place!

Any idea where he'll start tomorrow? i.e. road position.

Wouldn't have thought he'll be on the tv stages tomorrow, which is a shame.

When you say "still go steady tomorrow", you mean like the first stage today? :D

I'm glad the car is not too badly damaged though and look forward to seeing what he (and Ogier) can do on Ypres with a fresh start.

That's true actually, although there are so few cars left that he may squeeze on the end.

Instead of "still go steady tomorrow", perhaps I should have siad "will go steadier tomorrow"! Of course he wants to finish, as well as showing his pace.

Ypres should be a rally and a half now - especially bearing in mind Ogier isn't a tarmac expert and so his superior and wonderful talent will be brought down to the level of the others.
