Hello,
This year I will for the first time visit a WRC event. I have no idea what I might expect and what would be the best way to see as much of the drivers as possible. Are there any tips or suggestion you could give to me?
Much appreciated.

Right....

Does anyone have the co-ordinates for the spectator viewing points (or best places to view) for all stages??

If so, please can you share and I will create a Point of Intrest file for my tom tom and I will upload the files to share.

It makes it some much easier to plan routes etc then.

Cheers

Like Henrii6 above, Rallye Deutschland will be my first WRC event. I'm an American living in Germany about an hour south of Trier. Since this is likely to be the only WRC event I get to attend before I leave Europe, I'd like to do it right. Got a couple newbie questions, though:

Is it possible to get one day passes, instead of the full event pass on the ADAC site? How or where would I get one? I only have one (maybe two) days I can attend because of work.

Is there a Beginner's Guide to being a Rally Spectator somewhere that might answer the questions below (and more)?

I understand we have to stay in the approved areas for our and the drivers' safety, but how do we know where the approved spectator areas are?

How long do you typically remain at one stage before heading to another? Do you have to drive yourself to the next spectator area or are there buses?

Thanks for any and all help.

1) First time this year, they dont sell one day tickets. You have to buy a stage-ticket on the entrance of the Spectators-Point and you can watch the 2 times, they will pass the stage. 10 Euro per Stage/day, and Stage "Arena Panzerplatte" 15 Euro/day "Stage-Tickets" (http://www.adac-rallye-deutschland.de/news/index.php?SID&flash=&lg=d&st=70&showall=&allge=&id=1448)

2) Buy on the homepage your Rally-programme, all the infos about the stages and spectator-points are inside. “Rally-programme" (http://shop.rallye-deutschland.de/product_info.php?info=p58_Rally-programme.html)

3) See point 1, if you change the stage, you have to pay again for the new stage. So maybe just plan to change to another spec-point on your stage.

1 - There are areas where the marshalls would like you to stand...(which is great for familys and new comers, however feel free to go off walking into the woodland, just keep safe and dont stand in stupid places... ie.. outside of a bend!

I never stand in any of the marked pens, I always prefer to go for a walk and find a quit area on the stage..

But remember... KEEP SAFE

2 - I tend to do a stage, then off to another stage which we have planned to do,

Trying to get in 2 oer even 3 stages..

All this is done via us driving.

A lot of companies will do a tour but will tend to only do a stage a day, (if the cars run through it twice..)

Take a look at Rally Travel for ideas.

Hello Rick,
as you can read from my nickname I'm from Germany and I know the stages of Rallye Deutschland quite well. So to fulfil your wish, here are my recommendations:

Friday: Panorama-road Piesport
49°53'21.36'' N
6°55'48.80'' E

Saturday: Panzerplatte
49°38'34.48'' N
7°19'20.50'' E

Sunday: Galeria Dhrontal
49°51'12.20 N
6°55'50.25 E

These are the most interesting spots for someone who has never visited Rallye Deutschland.

Greetings to Yorkshire!
(Memories are coming up from long times ago, when we were rallying through Langdale, Wykeham and Dalby Forest during the old Lombard RAC Rally.)

kind regards
Christoph

Nice work from Malcolm there. Lets not keep Duval in the team for long enough for him to be able to do anything. Lets bring him in once or twice a year and then complain when he crashes because he doesn't know the car well. Bravo Malcolm! Bravo!

Thank you for this. I have just been looking at it and it must of taken you a while to do.

Do you have any info or coordinates on the spectator points or good places on the stage ?

Do the Marshall's try and keep you "pinned" in Germany, or are you free to walk the stage to a point of your choice ?? (I suppose its a case of staying out of site of the Marshall's and going for a walk into the woodland! )

Thanks

Hey Rick,

thx mate. it toke me about 7 hours to edit it.

right now i don't have any spectator points, but once i got them will update the file again.

the marshall's.. hard to say.. some of them are nice and let you go, some are screaming like a monkey ;)

just don't go over the street when the stage is running, it should be fine then.

Hello,

Im looking for some advice regarding which stages and viewing areas are worth going to for each stage.

Using the "Google Earth Map Pack" provided by rallye-vid (http://www.motorsportforums.com/forums/member.php?u=201245) in this thread, I am now at the stage of plotting the Car Parks into my TOMTOM as points of intrest.

Using the data provided in the "Google Earth Map Pack", please can you post next to each stage, the Car park number ie P1 and Specator Zone, ie Z1 which you think will be worth going to????

In return for this information, I will upload the TOMTOM POI file which will include all car parks for each stage,

if you want more action with them:

Special event: After SS10 (Panzerplatte) two hours of historic rally car action. Several laps of circuit runs past the spectator areas Turm, Kleine Platte, Gina, Platte Nord, but not past Maiwald and Reichenbach

On sunday (Circus Maximus), citroen will show they new electric race car "Survolt"

Excellent, as I'm going to stay at Panzerplatte for the second running that will be good. Will still stay at Moselland on Friday to see the Slowly Sideways as, if Catalunya is a good guide, several old cars don't make it through Friday without breaking down.

I don't know if you know it guys, but there is a nice software for the PC that let you plan your route and exports it for you navigation system:

http://www.benichou-software.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1&Itemid=4&lang=en

It works with "waypoints" so you can create the route like you want to avoid i.e closed roads.

Here my sample route for - Schweich -> SS15 "Galeria Dhron" - I just export it in the supported file format of my navigation device and load it there.

I have been using MyPOI Manger to plot the POI for the stages car parks and routes from your Google earth file.

I found some of the apps to convert from Google Earth to tomtom POI set latitude as 0000000.

i have some routes (kml format for my igo). as i'm sleeping in schweich i created them from there to a point i want to watch.. so it will be not interesting for ya if u're sleeping elsewhere.

the software i posted above should convert kml routes into a tomtom format, so give it a try.

PS. i'll attach a kml route from Hermeskeil SS7 to Panzerplatte SS10 (park car P1). Just load it into the itn converter and try to export it as a tomtom file.

on the Hermeskeil SS i want to watch a jump, then move (in rally speed cos of the time ;) ) to Panzerplatte "Turm"

TOMTOM POINTS OF INTEREST FILES, - ALL CAR PARKS

Following the great work from Rally-Vid with the Google Earth files, I thought it was time i repaid the favour to the forum.

I have created a TOMTOM POI file which includes all the car parks for every stage as listed in Rally-Vid's Google Earth files.

I have checked every car park location on the POI to the Google earth file and the POI is within 15 metres.

Hopefully you should have no issues downloading and installing onto your TOMTOM. (But please do at your own risk, and remember to make a back up before making changes.)

If you have any issues etc, let me know.

Cheers

TOP TIP - Fuel for spectator's

Fuel prices

Depending where you are staying, just to let you know that the typical price per litre of diesel in Trier/Germany is around 1.30 euros per litre, over the boarder in Luxemburg it is only 0.97 euro/cents per litre.

May save you a few quid on a full tank!

Please note that the price of petrol (/gasoline if you prefer) in Lexemburg is the same across the country, as it is fixed by government decree, and hence there's no difference in cost whether you get your fuel at a tiny petrol station in the middle of nowhere, or on the motorway.

Theres a service station on the E44 just after the boarder from Germany in LUX

hi there,

i'm already in trier writing right now from my notebook on a lidl car park ;)

i was yesterday on the test stage in brauneberg where ken block and j-m latvala were testing for the rally.

block was many times out of the road, so i think we will not see him at saturday anymore ;) it was like: "damn i'm in the corner now, ok so break and try to get the line.. oops, too late .. the corner was too tight"

latvala was going well.

about gasoline: normal (95 octan) its in trier 1,40 €/L
i was just in luxembourg right after the border and got it for 1,15€ :)

you should take some rain clothes with cos the weather is right now really bad.. it's not raining all the time but a lot..

I think the amount of tires is quite restricted for the rally and there is no rain in forecast so far. So, it is wise to use rain tires when you are just practicing. Or maybe he just wants to know how different tires handle on the tarmac. And it looks the stages is full of grave, so maybe softer is better.

Has Paddon competed on tarmac before?

Hayden comes from the South Island of New Zealand where there are no tarmac rallies at all.
In fact there are very few tarmac rally events in New Zealand at all.

A couple of years ago he competed in a Targa event (a controlled classic type event with restrictions on tyre brand & numbers and on speeds) which is his only tarmac rally event to date to my knowledge.

So, like Tanak, he's very much a rookie here. I'm sure they'll both provide a great show though. Two exceptional talents.

Yes I would like to know as well. They changes their site recently. I couldn't get the MMS to work anymore. I look at the radio page source code and got this: http://tx.sharp-stream.com/stream.php?c=north1fmmp3
Which leads to this: <video url="rtmp://wowza01.sharp-stream.com" app="north1fmmp3" stream="north1fmmp3"/>

Unfortunately, a quick googling found that VLC does not support RTMP format, and this format is for flash players (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Time_Messaging_Protocol#RTMP_server_software)

I would appreciate if anyone have a working streaming link so I can listen to from my phone as well.

Yeah but I'm sure he wont be the only one getting a puncture. If Loeb and Sordo also get one the anything can happen...maybe I'm being too hopeful.

Very sad to see that P. Solberg lost so much time.
This event was maybe a good change for a victory but we'll see what
the following stages bring...

Gutter for Petter, I guess he will go for it now but don't think a podium is possible. Seb wins again...... will Citroen let Sordo win in Spain?

For KKS: If you email [email:2dl4t437]radio@wrc.com[/email:2dl4t437] and ask, they normally respond very quickly.

S2000 looks like a 3 way battle. PG, Henning and Prokop. And Ostberg is to some too, he must be wy down the entry list lol

Edit and Sandel and the rest, should be good battle!

A good rally so far after the 1st stage. Shame about Petter but thats rallying. Loeb also seems to be very strong and Ford´s are improving, thats nice to see.

What comes to Block, by splits between 3rd and 4th he lost 23 seconds when guys like Kimi and Wilson just from 4 to 5. Al Qassimi lost just 8 so something must have happened. His time without that would been close to Kimi I would say.
