In the overall on the 6 first cars 5 C4 and still one day less.

Few days ago

“Look where we were in the rally before Finland and we’ve taken a big step,” said Malcom Wilson. “After Bulgaria, we collected a lot of data to see where we were losing the time and how we were losing it. We’ve pulled all of that performance data together and we’ve found a direction.”

What direction????

Super rally and still in top 10..

What direction????

The high attrition rate greatly helps Citroën.

Performance wise, Latvala is doing very well. My guess is the "direction" is better.

...and don´t forget - Seb I, Seb II and Dani are originally tarmac specialists, unlike the Finnish guys in Ford.

Seb 2.0 is not a 'tarmac specialist'. Absolutely not!

Just a question... is it possible to get a ticket for just one SS?
I'm thinking about visitting the 18th SS tomorrow...

well never before the difference between the 2 cars was that big....and lets be honest Sordo or any other driver NEVER managed to be ahead of Loeb and in a winning position for citroen to slow them down and let Loeb take the win...they usually imposed orders to stop fighting when things where close...

I might be wrong but i cannot recal any time Sordo being slowed down to let Loeb pass him...can you?

Spain last year

I think Duval wasn´t driving so badly. Even a few years back at Ford he was doing similar times with Mikko and this year he done similar times at 08 Focus than factory cars when his car was working. Maybe people were just expecting too much. What comes to gone off,its true that Dudu keeps to crash quite often with the WRC car even when the last years he has pretty much just been driving for fun. He destroyed his image at 05 in Citroen after driving a few decent years at Ford.

I wonder if JML will go off. His been superb in Germany but the shakedown gone off and the one what happened today, could have ended way worser.

Good rally so far in my mind. Citroen´s been very strong but everyone kinda knew that. What comes to S-WRC and J-WRC some nice action on those.

Duval was not doing anything else but driving an average rally. I remember that here in the forum before the rally Germany there were quite a few people sure that he can beat other Fords and challenge Seb's. Well, that didn't happen. Instead he was able to what he has always done. Chrashed. Honourable indeed. :)

I remember that here in the forum before the rally Germany there were quite a few people sure that he can beat other Fords...

What he actually did. In an old-spec car he defeated Mikko on every stage today when he had no technical problems unlike yesterday.

I don't like him but this is objective fact no matter what someone said or wrote anywhere. It's same objective fact like that he crashes way too much :s mokin:

By the way overheated engine for Henning on panzerplatte.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Rally_Catalunya

Sordo was in the lead after day 1 and was explicitly asked to let Loeb win.

Seb did appologize to Dani and said Dani would have win without the team order.

Seb needed the extra points to get within one point of Mikko before GB.

I expect Seb to return the favor this year to Dani

Tomi

I think Duval did about what was expected, a few reasonable time with mega risk, someone posted yesterday that he aims back to wrc, propably he dont have many chanses to show the teams what he goes for, high pressure for and no driving experience for a long time is not a very good combination.
Rally is not a very easy sport, long time without driving shows right away.

I think it says more about the 2010 Focus compared to last years car than Duval's skills.

Just saw some MotorsTV footage. The extra gravel in the stages is just awesome! The jump (pictured a few posts back) is awesome as well!

Saw inboard of Wilson with Dudu on the roof, it was a fast left with the car slightly lifted and then to the right. The car must have broken out on the left and lost control... (just a guess)

Very surprising win for Patrik here. I never thought he was that quick before but his pace was also reasonable in Finland. On the other hand I think those S2000 cars can go a lot faster on tarmac in other hands. Surprisingly poor peformance by Pons here? Maybe the Skoda is a better tarmac car than the Fiesta at the moment.

Congrats to Loeb and Citroen for another amazing 1-2-3. Ford must really hit the ground running with the Fiesta for next year and forget about 2010. A mention also for Jari-Matti who did what he could and fought with Ogier until the end.

The battle in SWRC was, for me, the highlight of this rally with great drives especially from Sandell who had a bit of a surprising pace, in my view, and deserved the win although beating P-G without the latter's problem was something still to be seen. And Prokop was on it until the end also. Awesome.

In PWRC, Armindo's victory was predictable but a bit harder than it might have been due to a couple of uncharacteristic (even if small) mistakes and also due to Paddons reply which was great and, for me at least, the revelation of the rally. Great pace all the way through.

There were many other WRC drivers down the field, not only Eric Wevers. Most of them are driving just for fun and their times aren't important.

You can see Eric's times in results (No.62), he had some problems though: http://www.vysledky-rally.cz/vysledky/?id=21

Just back from Rallye Deutschland. Really enjoyable.. Talked to the Solbergs and went to a few stages, and got a tan... ;) I did'nt plan this trip very well, but i found it a little bit hard to find my way sometimes.. Maybe it was just me that did'nt see the signs, and direction arrows.. ;)

Elena just said mostly the same thing as Hirvonnen about the stage, and he said aswell that Loeb didn't like the stage and that the champion itself thinks that the spectators dont like it too.

That's right and marketing is the sole purpose of this spectacle. That's why the likes of Block and Kimi are a positive additions to the sport. They attach more audience by just being there than most of the other guys driving in the front.

kimi block rossi and other tomato cans attract attention but short-term one...

after all they made a name for themselves by being very good at something else. If they were useless tomato cans in their sports as they are in rallying none would care about them....so by staying in a sport they are really really bad the attention fades from their loyal doggys.

People admire success not just being a useless clown...so when all these do something they are not good at the success element goes away and the clown one remains. People are not very fond of clowns when there is nothing around them.

So you are honestly telling me that Loeb has more followers than Block? And what has Block achieved apart from driving sideways? It is just a clever marketing strategy and the sole purpose of him driving is to sell more DC shoes.

johunn
28th August 2010, 10:41
comprehension is not your strong point.....

Well you quite obviously have not understood what I said as well. My point was that the whole sport is built on marketing. No manufacturer would provide their vehicles if that didn't serve a greater point. Yes, over time great champions will emerge that are remembered for their achievements. But most of the actions are done based on possible near-future gains. Thus we have only 2 different manufacturers as the other car companies do not see the marketing value in competing there. If it was just about the fame for the driver then I suppose there would be a lot of manufacturers that could produce a winning car if enough money was laid on the table. Overall it is a marketing strategy for car companies and other sponsors that needs a face and generally achievements. But the recent trend shows that the achievements are less valued than the image that the driver has been able to make himself. Im pretty sure that Red Bull don't think of Kimi being around for next 10 years as the best driver. They want to sell their product now to the people that follow Kimi (it's a big number). In two years they will have someone else who is more profitable that they will sponsor.
