I've been running a Free Fantasy F1 competition for the last few years - it's at http://www.fantasyracers.com.
The format is very simple - you have a budget to 'buy' up to 6 drivers. You can choose to lock your drivers in for the year and have a 45m budget, or change your drivers as often as you like during and have a 40m budget. The drivers values are adjusted after each race, allowing you to potentially increase your budget and strengthen your team during the year.
The competition is very popular with forums and blog sites as it supports individual leagues, and there's a championship table to determine the most successful league. There aren't any massive prizes but there is a trophy.
