Back in the old days of this forum, our old moderator Roselady3 used to post a thread every year in which the members would tell everyone who they are, what they do, who they pull for, how long they have been around (etc). It was kind of expected. This way people could get know a little about each other so that when we argued, we knew where the others were coming from.
SO
I am slorydn1 (pronounced "slow-ridin-one) and it has NOTHING to do with the way I drive.
I was born in Michigan, but grew up in Schaumburg, IL (in the NW Suburbs of Chicago). I now live in eastern North Carolina.
I am a supervisor of an E-911 center, and have been in the business for 12 years.
I have been following NASCAR on and off since the 1979 Daytona 500, been hardcore since the early 90's. I am, first and foremost, a Dale Sr fan, the 3 lives for ever. Back in February 2001 I like many was faced with a decision I didn't want to make: Stick with his team, or pull for his son. I stuck with his team and now am a huge Harvick fan. Back in the day I usta' be a hater (as in Jeff Gordon Hater) but have moderated to the point that I don't hate any drivers any more (except for the week one screws up and takes out Harvick :p )
I love all forms of motor sport, but really follow NASCAR and F1. I started to get interested in Indy Car again last year now that they have merged back (then Versus and DirectTV had their pissing contest and I missed the end of the season last year).
I consider Darlington my home track.
OK, now its your turn

I know where Schaumburg is :D
my screen name is harvick#1, but I did this before I basically became Spike2933 for everything else
I like slo, I'm a big Harvick fan, and prolly is still the only reason I watch Nascar still, I also root for all the RCR cars, and anyone other than the Hendrick boys in the final laps if it comes down to that. I've been following Nascar since late 1997, and grew up an Earnhardt Sr. fan.
I am an avid racing fan, mainly now a ALMS/LMS/Lemans fan, along with Nascar, F1, WRC, and anything that is on that I get to watch, the DTM is a great series also
I just recently "ok a week or 2 ago" finally got a new job since my lay off at Caterpillar, I weld and fabricate pre-fab metal walls, our latest project is building a new barracks at Fort Stewart in Georgia.
Born and raised in Lisle, IL. still live here, but have money saved up to hopefully buy my own place once my job is secured or if I get called back to Caterpillar.
my home track is Chicagoland Speedway, but Road Atlanta is my unofficial "home track" only because that was my first "real" track I've been too, outside of Chicagoland Speedway. the ALMS guys are just too awesome and that track is perfect

i'm 28 and born in hartsville, south carolina. i have since my high school days resided mainly in central florida where i have been for nearly the past year residing in melbourne. i was living in daytona beach, shores, port orange, and south daytona in prior years and spent nine months in hampton, virginia in 06-07(yeah, moved a lot lol). i originally came on in 03 as 29er then lost touch with the internet and forgot my password, so became willracefan where i have been off and on since and in the last year i have been online fulltime(the longest yet).
i started rooting for harvick after atl 01 the race he won, and for the next four years nascar was my must-watch sport. but when rcr was struggling i had to start getting into the football more and was already a fan of the kansas city chiefs and new orleans saints. however, i dropped my support of the chiefs as they self destructed and i found that the saints gave me more to hope for(they just won the sb!). i tried to follow danica in the irl but last year i lost touch with the sport, and now that she drives for junior i will not root for her now! i hope this will be the year harvick's team has it turned around.

I've lived my entire life in Wisconsin...grew up in Racine, lived in Pewaukee a bit & now have lived most of my life in Watertown.
I started following Nascar back in the early 90's & became a fan of Alan Kulwicki after he won the '92 Championship. I then followed Rusty, Mark Martin & Ted Musgrave until Dale Jarrett took over for Ernie Irvan in the RYR #28 for the '95 season. (That is the origin of the 88 in my screen name.)
Latched onto Matt Kenseth when he took over for Tim Bender in the Kraft #17 during the '97 Busch season & became a full fledged fan after he finished 6th in his first Daytona race in '98 & won the next week in Rockingham. It was a perfect fit since I live about 20 miles away from Matt's hometown of Cambridge.
I'm a Mechanical Designer for a company than manufactures engines and generators. I've been in this field for 25 years now. I've previously worked for companies that manufacture food & dairy equipment as well.
The Milwaukee Mile was my home track...now I guess it will be Road America, but I travel a lot and have been to quite a few of the tracks on the Nascar schedule.

Swoop=Galveston Dunes or Dunes to all who really know me.
I was introduced to racing at a very early age. My father was a car owner and fabricater for some super stocks in the mich and surrounding areas.Went to my first race on my b-day in 1968 at Mich. Speedway.
I drive long haul over sized loads throughout all of america.Been doing that since my ex-wife passed 5 years ago.Like it alot. I traveled the eastcoast back in 2004 when my mother passed and some of her friends inside NASCAR's family get me tickets to all the races; Thanks again gang.
My truest driver was and is the 28 of Davy Allison. But I like to root for underdogs and Rookies, Guess I'll be pulling for Patrick soon.I love all forms of racing and have met some extreemly nice people because of my Fathers connectrions with the sport.A few years back a few old time forum people got together and we met, That was cool also.
Time now for me logging on is limited because of the high demands of my work,However I try to keep up.
I now reside in Georgetown Florida but keep a room at a friend place up near detroit, which is where i'm from.Born outside Boston, mass grew up in Mich. subburb, and now 40 miles west of Daytona Beach.
Trucking is a lonely job so I relish the times I spend with the people of this forum who have known me and been around awhile but always interested in everyones personal views and topics.

Well my handle says it all, but for those who don't know, Oshawa is home to the GM plant that built the 70's era Monte Carlo, the Lumina, the Latest Monte Carlo, and the current Impala. Not to mention the Grand Prix up until a year or so ago and the new Camaro now.
That said, I don't work for GM, I drove truck for a company that did work for GM, but I am out of it all. Oshawa is also halfway between Toronto and Mosport, where my racing baptism was the 71 Canadian GP. I have spent half my life going there as a road racing timing and scoring official which I gave up 2 seasons ago.
Where does NASCAR come in? Really simple, I also grew up watching any NASCAR that was on TV. My father saw Richard Petty win his first NASCAR sanctioned race at the old CNE ground's oval in Toronto in the late 50's. He is a BIG Richard Petty fan, and he raised me right so to speak. I didn't like anyone who messed with the King, and as NASCAR was on TV more and more, I grew to love the sport as mature thinking adult, and loved the competition, and the culture of the sport. I also have been friends with the officials in timing and scoring for what was then CASCAR and what is now the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.
I was never a big Earnhardt fan, but felt his joy when he finally climbed that mountain and won the 500. I shared in the sorrow when he passed away, and I was a Jr. Fan from the word go because he isn't like his dad in a lot of ways (there were some things Dale Sr. did that were pretty nasty on the track, but off it Dale Sr. was a stand up guy)but he was his own man. I always cheered for the Ford teams just because I liked Bill Elliott and Alan Kulwicki. When the Dodge's came back, I became a big Dodge team fan, and of course, My favourites still drove all sorts of cars.
IN short, there are few drivers now I don't have some time for or respect, but I still have favourites. Dale Jr, Mark Martin, Kasey Kahne, Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards, Elliott Sadler and Jeff Burton are the guys I probably root for the most, but I cant really say I dislike any driver in Cup racing. I enjoy the sport, but I must admit if I was going to have guys I would cheer against, Kyle Busch would be up there but I admire the kid's skill.....

Mark did I understand you correctly and you're not on the road anymore?
Anyway, I am Alexamateo, and I live in Memphis, TN. My wife is from Valle de Allende, Mexico and I am fluent in Spanish. I am a self-employed plant broker and nursery rep, meaning I sell plants and trees to independent garden centers, re-wholesale yards and landscape contractors. I set up my own trucks and arrange shipping. I even tried to hire Mark once, but he is restricted to loads originating in or terminating in Canada, so it didn't work out. My Dad was a farmer and I grew up farming cotton, soybeans and beef cattle.
I was bit by the racing bug when my father took me as a 10 year old to the 1981 Indianapolis 500. After that we started going to "the Ditch", Riverside Speedway a 1/4 mile dirt oval just across the bridge in West Memphis, AR, and I became a fan of Sprints. The first Nascar race I went to was the final race held at Nashville in 1984. I have attended many Nascar races going to Bristol, Charlotte, Talladega, and Darlington for Cup races. I have also attended Nationwide races at Myrtle Beach, and of course here in Memphis where I have gone every year since it opened, and am very sorry to see it closed right now. :( I have also been to truck (not every one though) and other races here in Memphis.
As far as favorite driver, I pull for Dale Jr., even though I was for anyone but Dale Sr. when his dad raced. In Indycars, I don't really have a favorite since Sammy came over to Nascar, and in F1 Massa's the man, and in MotoGP Valentino Rossi. (quick story, Our son was born on Valentine's day and I tried to get my wife to go along with naming him "Valentino", but she wouldn't go for it.) :p :
Other tidbits: I love motorcycles having had a license since I was 14 (yes in Tennessee you can get a restricted license at 14.) I also went to the Buck Baker driving school at Rockingham.

Alex that would be correct, I am off the road, I just had enough of it! Also yes, like you I cheer for Jr. while not cheering for his dad in the past. We may be the only two with this peculiar trait..

I got exposed to motorsports through F1 in the 70's - also was a huge fan of CART back in the day when Mario and AJ were still running...I don't race or anything but I am super fast in racing games (playing Dirt2 these days), that's pretty good at 45 years old, I can beat the teenagers online...so I figure I should get at least a NASCAR test...and for sure that makes me a complete authority on racing...
I own a little creative agency, our clients are all in Seattle...I have a 2 year old son and an somewhat older fiance.
The best I've ever seen were Senna, Schumacher, Dale Earnhardt, and Montoya, whom I got to see in person in Portland many years ago, before Indy and before F1 and NASCAR - he was going through the chicane faster and cleaner than everyone....
I didn't get hooked on F1 full time until around 1995, but did follow it basically since the days of Wide World of Sports and Jackie Stewart (Monaco GP coverage) - got into NASCAR when it became too popular to ignore, round about the time Jeff Gordon started winning everything...I guess around 2000.
Random stuff:
I still hate Tony George and will probably never get over it....I think NASCAR robbed Montoya at Indy last year, I'm calling it a "watch this Jed" goodoleboy moment...my favorite moment in racing is Jeff Gordon's head position the first time he took turn one on Montoya's F1 car at Indy for the trading paint special...Kimi is going to get me to watch WRC this year....I think Scott Speed is going to surprise a lot of people this year...I don't think Danica is a very good race car driver...and finally I think we should deport Peter Hamilton...

I live in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania with my husband - the Jeff Gordon fan - of 43 years. I've been disabled with spinal cord injury since 1994 and haven't been able to work since then. The other half retired last year so we have lots of time to visit the kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
I don't ever remember not being a motorhead. Growing up in the 50s provided me with many various makes and models of cars to admire but we were always a GM family. My dad was a Chevy guy so I got to drive a few sweet ones. My sister and I built about 40 models together throughout the 50s and early 60s. It was a strange hobby for girls to have but our dad never told us there was anything we couldn't do because we were girls.
I got hooked on NASCAR over 20 years ago when friends we were visiting happened to have their TV tuned in to a race. I was told I had to pick a driver and I zeroed in on a black #3. The car and it's driver raced with attitude and I've been a Big E fan ever since. Still am, in fact, and always will be.
I started cheering for Steve Park when Dale hired him and I still follow his racing in the East series. I picked up Robby Gordon when he started his own team. Since then I also root for Tony Stewart. How can you not like guys who'll race anything with wheels for the sheer joy of it?

Not much for putting too much personal info on the web but here's the juice considering I'm new here....
My name is Mark and I live in small town Nevada. Got a little (1700sqft) house on an acre with BLM land out my front door. Would much rather have settled next to a stream in the woods but I thank God for what He has given me, taken from me, and left me with.
I am a retired 3rd generation sheet metal worker...do yourself a favor harvick#1, join the union.... My Grampa signed the original charter in Peoria, Il. I retired (at 58) about 6 months ago after starting my apprenticeship way back in 1969. Basically, I'm set. Got my pension and paid-for health-care along with life insurance. Needless to say, my political views lean to the left although I live a very conservative lifestyle.
I am a recovering alcoholic and a recovering drug addict. My drug of choice was "More" and "Yours". Been cleaned up for a bit over 16 years. And for a guy who never did quit drinking or using, that ain't bad. If you ever think you got a problem, I'm yer man and will be more than willing to counsel you in any way possible.
okie dokie then......Grew up at/near Riverside International Raceway watching the likes of Gurney, Foyt, Andretti, Donahue and the other greats of the era. I once went to a Ferrari party in the infield where hardly anybody showed up and got a keg of beer to take back to the campsite. Got a DUI leaving the track after the race the next day.....like duh, wonder how that happened.
anyways......71Fan.....Dad met this guy at a local roadhouse one night, offered him a room (which he didn't take) and I never paid for a ticket to a NASCAR event after that. Even got in to the pit grandstand at Ontario where I sat with a whole bunch of Kelly Girls one year. Dave also offered me a job at $25 a week plus room and board to sweep his shop which I didn't take mostly because of a really good looking redhead.
The Busch Boys.....I got to watch Kurt advance thru the ranks at the Vegas Bullring, and when Chris Trickle got shot, I got to watch him take the Star Nursery/Quality Mechanical West car to pass Ricky Craven for the lead at the very first speedway race ever held at the big track. As I recall, the engine let go. Brendon Gaughan also battled Ricky for and took the lead..
Kyle....what can I say about Kyle? The kids a phenom and is the best raw talent I've ever seen. Tho he was raised to be a crew-chief, his Dad put him in Legends car one night while Kurt and his mom were in Phoenix for a West Race, and off he went. So I got watch him rise thru the Legends ranks, blast his way thru the Late Model ranks, and then off to see the Cat In the Hat. I have an unworn Rousch Racing hat with all three of their signatures on it. Priceless.
anyways, I've worked on more than a few cars. Mostly interior stuff on home-grown dirt trackers. And dig this....I had a race ready SCCA approved BugEye Sprite that I almost got on track at Riverside. A 60 over supercharged 948cc with ported and polished head, lightened and balanced pistons, rods, and tappets, and a shaved flywheel....the guy at the machine shop thought I was nuts when I told him to drill the tappets. Unfortunately, I trashed the motor in my daily driver and had to use my race motor. It barely lasted 600 miles but man did it fly. And there went my dream of getting on track.
Nowadays I spend my time watching just about anything racing on the tube, and get out to the local dirt track on occasion. And, I spend waaayyyyyy too much time in front of this computer.
So that's about it. I hope to enjoy yakkin about racing here with you folks for many years to come and am very glad I found you. Oh yea, the only other screen name I have ever used is Tinnerman.
More than this, yer gonna have to figure out on yer own. My gosh, I sure can be long-winded.
Thanks for having me.
