LOL. Who do you have besides him? Sauber took a beating today although they do look much better than what the produced in the first half of the season.

At least you didn't have Force India like I do - they were both way down in the order!

what an amazing turn of events. 2 years at the bottom and now top of the standings. I feel like the honda/brawn gp team of 2009.

The usual speech, with plenty of use of the word fantastic, and mega happy and thanking the team and a good job all weekend... :)

:)

Good race for the Maru boys. Massa getting "passed" for the lead ruined things a little bit but still a nice 61 point haul for us.

Quietly confident for the remaining races with our bonus GP yet to come and sitting just under 100 points behind the leaders.

In real life, I've become more of a Hamilton/McLaren supporter than ever before. In this Fantasy GP land, I'm loving the fact that I resisted choosing anything Mercedes-Powered, Mercedes-Built or any of their related drivers. This RedBull/Ferrari dominance of late has done wonders for my FGP team, when for the first half of the season it looked as if those teams that had Merc in them somewhere had the advantage.

Now, to wait 4 weeks and find that McLaren will suddenly be blisteringly fast in Spa and Monza lol, with my team tumbling down the order.

N. Jones
2nd August 2010, 12:38
I just did a calculation of how my team would be faring had I chosen Kubica/Petrov instead of Sutil/Liuzzi:

I would have 580 points as opposed to 528 and I would be 13th instead of 28th!

 Crap!

Every year I try to avoid McLaren/Mercedes/Ferrari if I can because I know that the majority will be made up of these three teams. So far that has somewhat worked for me, but usually the McLaren/Mercedes/Ferrari picks end up on top (except for last year when Brawn mopped up).

Another poor result in Hungary, and I'm now down to 5th in overall standings. I was running 3rd just two races ago...

If Team Damavand wants a podium (my ultimate goal), then McLaren needs to pick up some points...

N. Jones
3rd August 2010, 02:33
Yeah but this season is really close and the top 15 teams have used their bonus so there will not be very many surprises. If one of the teams a little lower in the standings, who has not used their bonus, catches on fire they may cause some damage to the teams up top. :D

Closer scrutiny reveals that driver selection is irrelevent to the game. The best strategy is to put all your money on one chassis/engine combo.

I say the chassis and engine determine whether you have a good season or not, and the drivers determine if you win or not.

N. Jones
3rd August 2010, 12:18
I agree with you both but with Shifter a little more - a good "car" combo keeps you competitive. The drivers determine how high up in the standings you finish.

The first year I started (2005) I found out that the winner in '04 gambled and put together a team of Button-Sato-Honda's 3rd driver-Honda-Honda!

Somewhat like what Warum Nicht did last year (Button-Barrichello-3rd drv-Brawn-Mercedes).

N. Jones

I originally was going to go with Alonso-Massa-Fisichella-Lotus-Mercedes. Thankfully I did not as the Ferrari is not as all conquering as we thought.

Red Bull-Renault is nice but the cost means finding drivers is hard. Unless Sutil stays in the top five the rest of they way (and I think he will be there at Monza) I am probably going to finish the season in the 28th-31st range.

Hanging in there, top 20. Kudos to Little Bit of Red...that's a heck of a combination with a Renault chassis being the 'weakest' link, but of course it's hard to call Kubica's car a weak link. Smart lineup.

N. Jones
14th September 2010, 22:42
True. Especially since Ferrari were not doing that well for a few races.
Little Bit of Red has Alonso-Massa-3rd-Renault-Ferrari and is 1st overall.
My brother has Alonso-Massa-3rd-Lotus-Mercedes and he's 42nd overall.

It goes to show that you need both driver and "car" in order to win the title!

I haven't been around here in recent weeks so I'm overwhelmed to see I got 3rd in Italy :D 16th at Singapore isn't bad either, considering my team. Alonso's improved form has certainly helped but I'm still hurting by STR's lacklustre year and the fact that Force India have dropped off the mark, McLaren drivers have made mistakes (Hamilton) and been conservative (Button) and that the Mercedes team can't quite cut the mustard at the very top yet. With De La Rosa gone, that's one driver out of my selection, but thankfully, I had the smarts to pick Heidfeld as number 3 :)

Maybe, but Red Bull are trying really hard to make sure they don't win at the moment, and Alonso is ready to pounce I think. Don't know what happened to Force India - regular top 10s at the beginning of the year but now they seem average at best.

Before I post the results let me make one thing perfectly clear:

You're third driver ONLY scores points if one of your other drivers does not participate in a race!

Those of you who have Heidfeld will ONLY get his points if he replaced one of your other drivers who are out, such as Chandok or de la Rosa.

From first to worst, this season has not been what I thought it would be.

One of these days I will find a winning combo without using Ferrari or McLaren!!

N. Jones
25th October 2010, 02:21
Drivers: Alonso 1st, Heifeld 9th
Engine: Mercedes 2nd
Chassis: STR, outside top 10

It's the first chassis that crosses the finish line that scores in FGP.

Here is a breakdown:

1. Ferrari-Ferrari
2. McLaren-Mercedes
3. Ferrari-Ferrari
4. Mercedes GP-Mercedes
5. Renault-Renault
6. Force India-Mercedes
7. Williams-Cosworth
8. BMW-Sauber-Ferrari
9. BMW-Sauber-Ferrari
10. Williams-Cosworth
11. STR-Ferrari
12. McLaren-Mercedes
13. Lotus-Cosworth
14. HRT-Cosworth

The first Ferrari chassis to cross the finish line was Alonso, the winner.
That is 25 points for the Ferrari chassis.

The second chassis to cross was the McLaren, so that is 18 points for the McLaren chassis.

The Third chassis to cross was Schmacher's Mercedes GP, so they score 15 points.

The Fourth chassis to cross was Kubica's Renault, so that chassis scores 12 points.

The Fifth chassis to cross was Liuzzi's Force-India, so that chassis scores 10 points.

The Sixth chassis to cross was Rubens Williams, so that chassis scores 8 points.

The Seventh chassis to cross was Kobayashi's Sauber, so that chassis scores 6 points.

The Eighth chassis to cross was Algeursuari's ST, so that chassis scores 4 points.

The Ninth chassis to cross was Kovalainen's Lotus, so that chassis scores 2 points.

The Tenth chassis to cross was Senna's HRT, so that chassis scores 1 point.

Does that make sense? Only the first team's chassis cross the finish line scores points for your FGP team.

This is done to persuade people to choose the cheaper chassis' when creating a team. Otherwise if I went by the actual finish order those cheaper teams would never score fantasy points and it would be a waste of everyone's time for them to be available to select.

32nd overall. The only way I'm moving up to my target of 26th overall is if Red Bull wins and both Force India drivers finish between 5th-7th.

Picking Red Bull has kept me mid table but finding worthy drivers with 15mil to spend was very hard. FI did not make the progress I hoped they had.

Now that RB is constructors champ they will cost two much to use for a team, because an owner would only be able to choose from the drivers who almost never make it out of Q2.

The three teams up above are very close in the overall standings.

Including team no.4, Eyes Closed & Pedal Down, this is the relevant data for each team:

TrSpf1 - FA, VP, MCL, FR (979)
SP - FM, KK, FR, FR (976)
LBOR - FA, FM, RE, FR (969)
EC&PD - FA, BS, FR, RE (966)

These are the top drivers and the Chassis and Engine. All are abbreviated.

If Massa wins UAE then it looks to me like Seter Pauber wins as the team would add 75 points, while TrueSpeed would add 25, LBOR would add 50, and EC&PD would add 25.

If none of the other players on these teams scored, the points would look like this:

1. S. Pauber - 1051
2. TrueSpeed- 1029
3. LittleBitofR - 1129
4. EC&PD - 991

The positions of Alonso, McLaren, Petrov, and Kobayashi would determine the outcome.
=============================

TrSpf1 - FA, VP, MCL, FR (979)
SeterP - FM, KK, FR, FR (976)
LBOfR - FA, FM, RE, FR (969)
EC&PD - FA, BS, FR, RE (966)

Highly unlikely but, if the results are the same as Brazil TrueSpeed will win the championship because of our tiebreaker (first to enter their team):
1. TrueSdF1 - FA, VP, MCL, FR (1027)
2. SeterP - FM, KK, FR, FR (1027)
3. EC&PD - FA, BS, FR, RE (1024)
4. LBOfR - FA, FM, RE, FR (1010)

Seter Pauber would win upright with the same Brazil results with one exception - Kobayashi finishing higher than 10th.
====================================

A Red Bull and Team Renault 1-2 would really goof things up!
1. TrSpf1 - FA, VP, MCL, FR (979)
2. SeterP - FM, KK, FR, FR (976)
3. LBOfR - FA, FM, RE, FR (969)
4. EC&PD - FA, BS, FR, RE (966)

If RB & REN finished 1-2, not including where the other finish:

1. EC&PD - FA, BS, FR, RE (991)
2. LBOfR - FA, FM, RE, FR (987)
3. TrueSF1 - FA, VP, MCL, FR (979)
4. SeterPa - FM, KK, FR, FR (976)
Very close in the standings. Once again Ferrari, McLaren, Petrov, and Kobayashi would determine the outcome.

Sorry Little Bit of Red, but I highly doubt Massa is going to finish ahead of FA, so I think you have no chance of winning (unless FA does not finish the race and Massa ends in the points).

There are many other possibilities but I think these are the most probable ones.
Nevertheless, the standings are very close and considering that I believe the Red Bulls and Fernando will be on the podium it will be up to McLaren, Renault, Petrov, and Kobayashi to decide who is Champion!

That ends another FGP season. I sincerely THANK EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!
Without you this little game would be awfully boring! It is YOU that make it what it is - fun.

I look forward to seeing you all (and hopefully your friends and some new players) next season for FGP 2011!!

Congrats truefan72!

And thanks a million to N.Jones for making this game possible!

I will certainly be back for the 2011 season and hoping to improve on my sixth-place finish (with which I am very happy, btw).

Very surprised & happy to to be on the final's podium. I had been in 4th for a while and expected to stay there or maybe move down after today's race.

Congrats truefan72, and as always, many thanks to N. Jones for all the work. Having a game like this really makes the season more enjoyable.

I'm already looking forward to next year, and hoping to move one more step up. :D

It's a good thing I stoped caring months ago, otherwise I'd be pretty bummed about a 47th place finish.

I'm faily happy with 5th, although picking Senna as my second driver didn't fair well.

The results will stay on the site until I reset the site for 2011. I will then move the final standings to the archives page.

For my team, Red Bull/Renault allowed me to finish 29th overall. Sutil & Liuzzi also allowed me to finish 29th overall. :(

Here's a list of the GP winners by total:

3 - Seter Pauber

2 - Little Bit of Red/POS F1/team Lotus

1 - Into The red/TrueSpeed F1/Eyes Closed & Pedal Down/Team Diamond Eagle/Hogtown/Mount Damavand/64 Rocks/Monster Khaos Racing/Flying Yorkie/team Taz/Street F1/mephrace/Potenza di Cosworth/F1 Dudes/Ratchet GP

I am going to make one rule change next season - the first tie breaker will be GP wins. The second tie breaker will be first to enter their team.

Lastly, as always, the rates for next season are done except for the drivers, since they are always on the move.

Thanks again!

You're welcome for everyone who thanked me. :)

Oh, I see. Change the rules after it would have got me 2nd place...Typical. Cheated out of 2nd...

I have to admit I was surprised too as your teams always seemed to be the Massa to everyone's Alonso. :D

It goes to show that a FGP veteran can win the title!

You welcome!

Same here - 16 weeks to figure out our teams. I have a slight advantage, which isn't one considering where I have finished over the years,

I have all of the rates done. :D

Congratulations to Trufan 72.

Thanks a lot to Mr. Jones for running this FGP again this year.

My team, Mt Damavand F1, just missed out on top 10, after running in podium positions during the middle of the year. Hopefully better luck and a podium finish next year!
