Race On - The Ultimate WTCC Simulation
NeverKnow

Didn't know they even made new sim for the Race series. Good to know, I'll keep my eye out for it at the stores...

I'm really enjoying my version which I got for Christmas. I love those new Formula Master cars, they give such good racing. As for the WTCC, you can get the 2009 mod as well, so it's possible to have every year from 2006 to 2009 in one game. It's pretty cool.
I'm doing a STCC season at the moment which is proving to be a bit tricky, but I nearly won a race and got another podium so I'll get there.

I Have The WTCC 09 Mod And The BTCC 2009 Mod Along With The BTCC Circuits .
Iv Just CReated A Custom Championship , So I Have A Mix Of WTCC 09 And BTCC 09 With the likes of Silverstone And Donington To RAce On
I have set the damage to around 80% with the difficulty at 90% with full mechanical failures , tire wear and mandatory pit-stops .
with the difficulty at that setting you get more of a race experience in the way that as in real life out-breaking your opponent is key to climbing the grid

I got the BTWC 09 mod, which is basically the BTCC 2009 by a different name, and it's pretty cool. Also got the tracks, plus others extra.
I run full simulation mode with the opponents at either 95% (touring cars) or 100% (single seaters). It's definately much closer and tougher racing than GTR2.
The pitstop strategy in the STCC makes it quite interesting, makes you think "on your feet" while driving, working out whether to pit earlier or later in the pit window or just waiting to see what your AI opponent does first.
One thing though, although the game comes with the Volvo game, it's still a seperate game and apparently attempts to combine the 2 end in tears.

for the btcc yes,
Almost ... But Instead Of The Civics And Focus the Skins Are On The SEAT Leons ...
All the btcc greats are there , giovanardi , turkington , plato , collard, to name but a few :)

Like RaceOn said above. The only problem is that some of the cars keep reverting to the WTCC Chevy skin. I'm not sure if the BTCC 2009 mod does this.

Yeah it is, especially qualifying, cos they qualify really quickly, but in the race you can make up places. Still tricky to get into the points from there. Does require a bit of setup work to get there but I found a brilliant thread about the diff settings on the cars a little while ago on NoGrip which seems to make a difference.

Sunshine.co.uk cars sometimes revert back to R.Huff ( WTCC ) in replays and ingame .. but i have found a solution
if you download the btwc mod and then download the sunshine.co.uk cars seperate you can combine the two it appears to work

Ah, ok, must try that some time. Where do you get the sunshine cars individually?

thats good then bruce d . i set the simulation to 95% on a customized championship with WTCC 2009 and BTCC 2009 ... I Am Driving Jason Platos Chevrolet . So Far The Best I Have Achieved Is 10th ... but a bit more tampering and bit more determination will see me on the podium ..... preferably by end of the season

Yeah it gets tricky at that level, the setup starts to come into it's own. I've just won my second race in a row last night so now I'm up to third in the championship, but still 9pts behind the leader with 3 rounds to go and now we go to the track that was the 1st round again, which I struggled at. Ok I understand a bit more about the setup on the BMS (Mercedes) but I'm now running with 55kg of ballast so I'm not expecting miracles.
The diff settings make a big difference to how you can go into and out of corners. Do yourself a favour and read these setup tips from this guy on the NoGrip forum - they have really helped me out.

I'm currently doing the World Championship (2008) in my trusty Vipex liveried Honda Accord - Scored a Double victory at Imola last time out (even if it did include a last lap lunge for the lead a bit of contact ;) )

Thats why I drive the Honda, its the closest thing to a tank you can get and very stable when giving someone a cheeky nudge through fast corners :)

I have Race Pro too. Its the best sim racer on consoles hands down. Ok so the graphics are not upto par with FM3 and the like, but doesnt ruin the game either. Has a great selection of race tracks, cars and handling is great. Setup options are really good and enjoy the many different car classes.
FM3...i got bored of it after a weeks worth of gameplay.

Each to his own. I personally never liked rFactor at all, thought the physics are horrible. Maybe other mods later have been better but the amount of times I've read that mods from rFactor are better on GTR2 makes me wonder if that game is worth it. Mind you, I'm keeping an eye out for rFactor 2, that may be worth the wait.

rfactor is good in the way that you have so many mods and alot more tracks and upgrades , however i found that the graphics were not up to the standard of GTR Evolution ...
Years Ago the only racing sim i would ever buy was TOCA RACE DRIVER by Codemasters..
They were as close to the real thing as you could possibly get on a console or PC...
I still remember when i was 14 and recieved Toca2 for the ps1 back in 1998..
this set the standard for racing games we see today ...
Toca2 offered the btcc season of 1998 , the cars the tracks , the ability to race as team with a mate...
I Came Across Race 07 by accident just browsing Amazon.co.uk and decided to try it having read the reviews ...
Then Along Came GTR Evolution
And The Latest Race On ....
These in my mind are the best racing sims on the Pc to date that give the ability to fully customize the game by way of downloads of mods, patches , tracks and skins..
i have race pro on xbox 360 , but still enjoy the games on pc as you can race upto 25 cars rather than 16 on race pro .
Bruce D
22nd February 2010, 11:19
Ah yes, Toca2 was brilliant!
For endurance racing you can't beat GTR2 though.

If you're into endurance racing then yes definately, otherwise don't worry about it. Although its the same graphics engine and effectively the same makers, it doesn't handle sprint racing very well, certainly not as much thrills as RaceOn is, thats for sure.

The drivers are much more tame in GTR2, I'd recommend having both tbh - its the best compromise ;)

Indeed.
GTR2 is much more about strategy than all out racing. Why I love RacOn so much right now.

Finished my first season of STCC in 2nd in the BMS Incognito (aka Mercedes) having won 3 races during the season. Went into the final race just 9pts behind the leader but then had a terrible race and crashed out in a dice over 21st place!
Started my next season as No. 3 driver in the Volvo C30. So far I've won the first race and 2nd in the next race so I'm 6pts ahead in the championship and Volvo is tied with BMW for the Manufacturer's lead.

That's weird, worked fine for me and I just installed it into the main folder.
Anyway, yeah, the Volvo has turned out to be a great car and it's nice fighting 2 teammates who are at the same pace, often we're hunting in packs in the race. One thing I love about it is the front end grip is great - having come from the BMS where you're trying to get any front end grip, it's a nice change.
Hopefully I get to race again this weekend, but it's Mantorp which hasn't been kind to me in the past season.

Well, wound up winning the championship by a comfortable 32pts despite a mid-season wobble where I only scored 5pts in 2 events (I hate that street track!). Anyway, came back from that with 2 wins in a row and then just settled for 3rd in a Volvo 1-2-3 to take the title. Was a massive fight down to the last race with BMW for the manufacturer's title but in the end we won that 151 to 143 but it was a massive team effort including a nail-biting last round where I eventually ended in the barriers, ironically after a BMW blew it's engine in front of me and stopped on the racing line! First time I've ever seen that happen actually.
